Chapter 119: Ch 118: Tasking Control of the Temple

Cardinal Flux was enjoying a joyous life. Things were surprisingly going according to his plan for once.

Not only had his arch-nemesis, Grand Master Kael, gone MIA, but the war was also going his way. Soon, people would have no one else to turn to but the temple. And as the chief instigator of the war, he would gain supreme authority.

"Tsk, those other Cardinals were pressuring me to show results. This will show them. I will become the supreme authority of the temple."

Cardinal Flux clenched his fist in a determined manner and pulled the cup of tea toward his lips to sip. But he failed to notice how hot the tea actually was and ended up scalding his tongue.

He quickly lowered the cup, and just as he was about to put it on the table, the door opened with a bang.

It made the cup in his hands fall down, and the tea scalded his leg instead.

’Who the heck is it now? How dare they trespass into my room like this-!’

Cardinal Flux was about to give the guard a good lashing, but the panic on the guard’s face stopped him.

Cough

"What brings you here?"

He asked, forcing his voice to soften. He wanted to show that he was not bothered by what had just happened. Rather, he was more worried about the guard and the situation.

It was a mask, but the guard fell for it and instantly softened his own tone as he delivered the bad news.

"C-Cardinal S-Sir, t-there is an important guest waiting for you out in the guest area. P-Please hurry to greet them..."

Cardinal Flux instantly felt his insides burn with anger.

’This fool broke down my door for something like this? Is he new? Does he not know that a Cardinal does not need to answer to anyone? If there is a guest here to see me, then they can wait.’

There were only a few people Cardinal Flux considered his equals. Most of them were either Grand Masters, Sword Masters, or people of notable status. But if someone like that were headed to meet him, then he should have known.

He could only conclude that the guest was no one important.

"Ah, it’s alright. There is no need for us to hurry. Our guest can wait for me-"

"Sir, it’s S-Saintess Seraphina. She’s here to meet you."

Cardinal Flux blinked and looked at the guard as if he had lost his head.

Relations between him and the Saintess were sour because of Grand Master Kael, so he had not expected to run into her so soon. In fact, he had just started planning how to use her guardian’s absence to get close to her.

’But it seems like there will be no need for that anymore! Since she came here of her own free will, I will use this opportunity to charm her and bring her to my side.’

Cardinal Flux’s whole demeanor changed in an instant, and he immediately headed out.

"Oh my! If the Saintess came to meet me, then I had better hurry to her. After all, it is my duty as her servant to ensure her wishes are fulfilled."

__________

Leon, Seraphina, and Iris had decided to discuss what to do next.

Seraphina wanted to go and find Kael instantly, but Iris had brought up an important fact - even if they were to find Kael, he would just be sent back to the war.

Thus, they needed to end the war before they could get to Kael.

Lyra would take care of the demons, but the human side was still a problem. However, there was an easy solution to this problem, and it was Seraphina.

The easiest way to end this war was for the temple to decide that it was no longer needed. And Seraphina was the perfect person to declare this as the one and only Saintess.

However, to do that, she would need to take control of the temple to some degree and get her word out. And that was where they were headed right now.

Seraphina had assured the other two that she was ready to make this decision, but her decision did not sit well with Iris. As much as she wanted to find Kael, she did not want Seraphina to sacrifice her freedom.

’But she said that she is doing this of her own free will. If she wants to do this, then why stop her?’

The voice in Iris’s ears was back, and she shook her head to get rid of it. Thankfully, it faded instantly.

"You don’t have to do this, Seraphina. I am sure that there are more ways to stop the war other than through the temple. We can discover them first and-"

"But this is the easiest and quickest way, right? I will need to face the temple one day anyway, so I might as well do it now."

Seraphina’s voice was cold but kind. But that was just what she was showing on the outside. The inside of her mind was a mess.

Her power wanted to lash out and destroy everything in her way. Holding it back was impossible at this point.

Only the thought of bringing Kael back was what kept her from destroying everything.

That...and Leon’s presence.

He did not say anything, but the way his hand twitched once in a while told Seraphina that he would attack her and subdue her if she did anything to jeopardize his chances of saving Kael.

They quickly arrived at the temple, and people practically fell over themselves to welcome her and Leon inside.

These were the same people who had once turned their heads away from her and ignored her. Now, they were catering to her every word.

’Tsk, I don’t want to be here. I really want to destroy everything in this place...’

The impulse was rising inside Seraphina, and her nails bit into her palm, leaving behind marks.

Luckily (for the Cardinal), he did not keep them waiting and quickly came forward with a nervous look on his face.

"Saintess Seraphina, what an honor it is to see you here. I heard that your guardian disappeared. You must be incredibly distressed at the moment. But fear not! I, Cardinal Flux, will become your guardian-"

"Cardinal, the Saintess is the head of the temple, right?"

Seraphina did not allow the Cardinal to finish his words before interrupting him. The Cardinal looked shocked, but he slowly nodded.

"That’s...right...but since you are young-"

"Then, I would like to pass my first verdict as the Saintess. I would like to declare the war with the demons officially over."
