Chapter 117: Ch 116: Sealing Elena’s Powers
The village looked like it was on fire. But the fire was black, and it was killing everything in its path.
Kael had to constantly deploy a barrier around himself to stop the black fire from draining his power as well.
"Elena is lucky that I am here with her. Anyone else would have been drained dry by her powers by now."
Kael muttered as he tried to look for the source of what was happening. He could sense a single figure walking toward him from the direction where he had left Elena.
"Elena, what happened-"
Kael asked, but he was not able to finish his words when he looked at her current state.
Half of Elena’s body had been burned by her own flames, and the other half had cracks running across it due to her power leaking out. Her body did not seem capable of holding on any longer.
But her flesh was the only thing stopping her powers from consuming everything in their path.
"See! I told you...you would regret not...ending my life..."
Elena forced these words out with a smile on her face. She looked incredibly proud after having reduced Kael to speechlessness.
But now was not the time for that.
"Kael, you are still thinking too much. You know in your mind what you need to do, right? Here, I will even hold my powers back. So make sure you strike my heart."

Elena held her arms out for Kael to strike her, and he still hesitated.
’Darn it! Kael, you need to focus! Your hesitation to take action against the people you know is the reason you died before!’
Kael had never been weak, but he had been indecisive in situations like this. He was hesitating even now when there was only one clear answer.
Elena took a step forward, and Kael felt frozen in place. That aura of death was heading toward him faster and faster. Bones clutched at Kael, dragging him down, and he broke their grip with his magic.
But the more power he used, the faster those hands started to grab at him.
"There is no point in resisting this. We both know it is the best outcome. Otherwise, I will become a problem for those other kids of yours."
Kael’s magic flared at that threat, and it destroyed Elena’s magic. She let out a giggle as soon as she noticed.
"Oh! So you won’t attack me if I ask you to, but you will take action if I threaten the others? Then, how about it? Maybe I should become a calamity right now and bring an end to it all-"
"No, that won’t be necessary. And you are right. I am indecisive and a coward when it comes to killing people. I can hardly make up my mind about killing you as well. But that’s why I will use another solution."
Kael told Elena with a determined look on his face, and she looked surprised by his words.
"You will...use another solution? There is no other solution. I have tried everything else-"
"No! There is another solution. You just never tried it because you never had someone capable of pulling it off. However, I promise you I will save you."

Kael told Elena as he approached her.
Each step he took forced Elena to take one back. She did not want to hurt Kael with her aura, but Kael looked like he was willing to take that risk.
"No! Stay back! Don’t come any closer. Otherwise, I..."
"It’s fine. I promise you that it will all be fine."
Kael told Elena as he grabbed her hand on his own. His eyes looked at Elena with a warmth she hardly recalled seeing before, and then she felt Kael suppressing her magic.
"Hey, don’t do it! You won’t be able to take it in your current state! Kael, don’t be foolish! I-"
"It will be fine. I am much stronger than I look, so I can handle your powers just fine. You just focus on yourself."
Kael told Elena as he poured more and more power into calming her powers down.
Corruption had started to take hold of Elena, but thankfully, it was at a stage he could still manage.
Moreover, he could sense the foreign substance inside her that was making her lose control.
Kael decided to pull that magic into his own body to neutralize it. But it was going to take some time, even with his experience.
"Ah, this is a little exhausting even for me. It seems like dealing with large-scale corruption before has drained me of my energy. Do you mind...if I...take a nap...against you...?"
Kael asked as he leaned his head against Elena’s shoulder. His body also felt cold in Elena’s arms, making her fear the worst.

But surely Kael would not die here, right? He might be a little reckless, but he was not a fool.
"Hey...Kael, are you alright? Say something to me...You cannot do this to me. I was the one who was supposed to die, not you...!"
Elena yelled, but Kael did not wake up. The only thing keeping her from panicking at the moment was the fact that Kael was still breathing, which meant that he was still alive.
Panic slowly started to eat away at Elena’s mind, and her legs collapsed. Kael fell on top of her, but she could not even bring herself to touch him.
"This was not supposed to happen. The one who was supposed to die was me. So why is Kael...?"
She could not even bring herself to finish the sentence. She felt panicked, and it became worse once she sensed people heading her way.
There were at least thousands of life signatures belonging to both humans and demons closing in, and Elena forced herself to stand.
It did not take long for the army to reach her village and run past the broken barrier.
"You! We are here to catch the person responsible for destroying the forest as well as our armies. Hurry up and hand the mage over-"
"You are all annoying ants. How dare you come here and demand that I hand him over?"
Elena’s voice was cold, and she felt ruthless. She was already mentally unstable, and these people were only making it worse.
Unfortunately, they did not notice her mercy and decided to make things worse for themselves.
