Chapter 116: Ch 115: A Chance to rest

"What is going on out there? There is too much noise. Should I head out and check?"

Elena questioned as she swayed on her feet. She was not sure if it was safe for her to come out or not.

But after about twenty minutes of waiting, she decided she should check up on Kael.

She walked out of the room and toward the dining room. She needed to cross that area to get out.

And it was there that she noticed a familiar figure sitting on the sofa and leisurely drinking tea with her uncle. Her uncle was laughing and chatting with the beautiful lady, but something about her unsettled Elena.

She tried to quietly walk past the room, but the beautiful lady noticed her. That caused her uncle to notice her as well, and he dragged her over.

"Elena, come here! You remember this lady, right? She’s the benefactor of this village. When that drought you caused happened, she helped us out with it. Show her some respect."

Her uncle forced Elena to bow her head to the beautiful lady, and Elena’s body followed her uncle’s command.

It made the beauty laugh.

"Ah, it’s alright. I just helped because I could. There is no need to thank me for that. I also meant to check on the child I saved, but I did not get a chance until now. Would you come near me and allow me to take a look?"

Elena’s senses told her not to do as she was being asked.

But her uncle was looking at her expectantly, leaving her no choice but to follow his lead.

She stepped forward, but she must have been taking too long because her uncle reached out to grab her arm and pull her forward.

"Stop wasting time and get over here."

He handed Elena’s arm to the beautiful lady, and she gently touched her.

Elena’s body burned where she was being touched, and the lady in front of her must have felt the heat as well because she instantly let go.

"Oh my! This is not a good sign. Your body can no longer handle this continuous use of power. If you continue, then you will perish. You had better stop before it’s too late."

The beautiful lady spoke softly and gently. Elena had a feeling she should close her ears and not listen.

But the lady somehow knew what she was thinking because she grabbed Elena’s hands and forced them away from her ears.

"Elena, it’s time for you to wake up and face reality. Your body can no longer sustain the burden of keeping this village alive. So let it go and follow me. I will give you the life you always wanted."

The woman spoke softly, and her words felt like they were beckoning Elena to fall for her charm.

She was about to accept the offer when a blinding flash snapped her out of her daze. She blinked and looked outside, only to see Kael floating down.

He looked majestic, and looking at him made Elena want to meet him. She wanted to stay here and be with Kael.

"I don’t want to come with you. I am happy here-"

"Oh, you are? Well then, I guess it is time for me to strip this lie from you. Then, you will come to your senses."

The beautiful lady...no, Chairwoman Lumi Lena spoke softly, and her hand grabbed Elena’s face.

Everything inside Elena burned, and everything around her became too loud. She was losing her focus, and something was clawing at her.

"What a tragedy. Well, thank you for the experiment. I will put the results to good use. Now, if you can take one last problem out for me, then it would be appreciated."

Lady Lumi spoke before Elena felt her senses going wild. Her magic was going out of control as well. She tried to grab Lady Lumi, but the other woman disappeared, leaving only butterflies behind.

Elena knew she needed to stop, but there was no way for her to stop.

Her powers collided with the barrier, and everything inside it died in an instant. Her powers were not listening to her, and even her body did not feel like it was hers.

"Ah, what a tragedy. I told Kael he would regret sparing my life. Why does that man never listen to good advice?"

Elena knew that it was her mouth speaking, but she was not the one in control. Who had taken control of her body? She needed to know. And she needed to snatch it back-

"Hey, calm down. We are the same person. You can think of me as another part of you, and all I want to do is help you out."

Help? How could anyone help her in such a situation? All she wanted to do was close her eyes and wake up from this nightmare that was her life.

"I know what you want, and I will give you what you need. Let’s fall into a beautiful dream together and make it one where we don’t have to suffer and take the blame anymore. But to do that, we will have to convince someone to grant it to us."

Elena continued to speak as she moved through the village.

The villagers’ bodies lay decaying on the ground, and she wanted to scream. Flashes of the past came back to her.

That terrible hunger that made her want to claw her flesh out, that time of desperation when she did everything she could to survive.

Her parents and uncle who tried to kill her in order to make her their food.

Her mind was breaking under these memories. She wanted to forget them and live a blissful life. She wanted to go back to the times when she did not have to struggle...

She wanted to run away and hide in the safe palace she had created in this village.

"Elena, you can go to sleep now. I will take over permanently for you. Not that this body has much time left. Now, rest well."

Rest...?

She could...rest...?

Elena wanted that. She wanted to rest. But a part of her still rebelled. Something was still missing before she could rest.

"Tsk, in the end, you are just like me. You only spent a few days with him, but you still got attached. I guess you and I will find that peace together after all."
