Chapter 111: Ch 110: End my Life

’Oh fuck! She might kill herself. I need to stop her.’

Kael’s first thought when he saw Elena strangling herself was to try and pull her hand away from her throat. He grabbed her wrist, intending to do just that, when Elena turned her head to face him.

Her eyes looked vacant, almost as if Elena was not here and her body was being controlled by something else.

But her voice was calm and authoritative when she spoke.

"Let go of me. This time, I will end it all."

Elena gagged as she tightened her fingers around her neck. Things were beginning to turn serious, and Kael felt like he had no other choice but to take a few drastic measures.

He used the magic he had just recovered, and that finally forced Elena’s hand away from her throat.

However, it also made her glare at him with her glowing eyes.

"Why...are you stopping me...? You...out of everyone...should know...what will happen..."

Elena’s throat was damaged, and she seemed to be having a hard time speaking. And yet, Kael could not help but feel like her voice sounded clear to him.

But what was even more stunning were the words she spoke.

"Let me die! I know you want me to die! Here, you do it for me. Taking someone’s life is easy. All you need to do is squeeze the neck hard."

Elena took a step toward him before she grabbed his hand and pulled it toward her throat. She pressed his hand against her throat to apply pressure.

The flesh felt soft and hot under Kael’s touch. It felt dangerous to let Elena continue like this. So Kael decided to make use of their connection.

Instead of harming Elena, he sent calming magic through their point of contact, causing Elena’s body to lose its strength.

"You..."

"I think you are too tired to think right now. You are having a mental breakdown. So I will put you to sleep now, and we can talk about this in the morning."

Kael told Elena, but she did not show any indication that she had heard him.

In fact, she was still looking at him with her unnerving glowing eyes. Those eyes looked far too old, and they instantly made Kael want to look away from her.

Hot arms wrapped around his neck, and Kael felt his balance falter. Luckily, he caught himself in time.

He was about to ask Elena to behave when she spoke up.

"I don’t know whether I should feel sorry for you or frustrated with you. Perhaps it should be a mixture of both. Or maybe I should learn how to play ignorant from you. You were always incredible at that."

Elena seemed to be babbling to herself, but her words were becoming weirder by the second.

Kael tried to ignore her words, but it was not an easy thing to do. Especially with her hands roaming all over his neck and inching closer to his back.

Finally, Kael decided to throw Elena onto her bed and step away. Elena reached out to grab him, but he noticed and foiled her plans.

Elena did not try again after she faced her first rejection.

"Hey, can’t you even allow me to be close to you for one night? This will break my young heart-"

"Who are you, and how did you manage to take over Elena’s body? If you don’t answer me in one minute, I will stab you-"

"You won’t be able to. You are too soft-hearted to hurt someone you know well. After all, isn’t that the reason you died in the first place?"

Elena...no, the stranger with Elena’s face asked, and Kael froze in shock.

The stranger in Elena’s body took advantage of this and quickly grabbed his face. Suddenly, Kael had to look up to see Elena’s familiar eyes.

He tried to sense magic, but there was none. Even his instincts were telling him that the girl in front of him was Elena.

"My dear friend, do you still not know who I am? Or are you pretending not to know the truth so that you can deceive yourself as well? There was a time when we both knew each other best...or was that only me?"

The more Elena spoke, the more unsettling she became.

Kael could feel the world darkening around him as more and more of Elena’s power leaked out of her body. It was starting to affect the surroundings as well.

This reminded him of the time Elena had lost control, and that had been when the end of the world had started.

[Something is interfering with Variable Elena’s consciousness.]

[Warning: Calamity Elena is about to awaken. Either calm her down or end her life.]

[Contractor will be given a ’special’ buff to deal with this situation. Should the contractor fail, the preparations for the worst will begin.]

Panic was beginning to settle inside Kael as soon as the ancient magic invoked its authority.

He suddenly felt ten times more rational than he usually was, and various explanations began to flash across his mind.

Kael’s body moved on its own, and he grabbed Elena’s face. It flickered between her adult expression and the one that belonged to a lost child.

"Calm down for now. Whatever you are fearing will not happen-"

"But it already happened. And it will happen again-"

"Nothing will happen. Now, take a deep breath and calm down. That way, you will put much less pressure on your current body."

Kael reasoned with Elena, and she looked stunned for a few seconds before she started laughing.

"I should have expected this. If anyone was going to be rational in this situation, it would be you. Aren’t you going to ask me how I managed to find my way back to my younger body?"

Elena asked, and Kael gave her a blank look.

"Well, if there is anyone who would be able to cheat death and find their way back, it would be a strong necromancer like you. But I doubt you have much time left on your hands."

Kael threw Elena’s words back at her, causing her to give him a bitter look.

"You are right! I won’t be able to stay awake for much longer. Especially since my vessel cannot handle the pressure of my presence any longer. So please, grant me one last wish."

Elena asked, and Kael nodded to show her that he was listening.

Somehow, he knew what Elena would ask of him.

"Please, end my life with your own hands."
