Chapter 204: ABO / 5.15 : The virus
Ludek banged his fist on the table in rage. How could he make such a mistake? Atlas has never made a mistake in any of the games he created but right now he made one.
Not just a small one, it’s going to cost them millions. All the influencers who demoed the game were hacked and embarrassing personal information about them was released.
They all have millions of followers and they’re all posting how they were hacked as a result of playing Nye Games’ latest video game. He offered them hush money but they all refused.
It’s not like it’s surprising seeing how they’ve been humiliated. Some had naked pictures leaked other private text messages or emails. No matter what skeleton they had in the closet it was dug out and exposed.
How could this happen? This is by far the most impressive game Atlas has ever created but this scandal is going to cost them a lot. He had to call a board of directors meeting after all the members asked for an explanation.
When someone knocked Ludek howled:
"Get the fuck out."
Despite his words, the door was opened and Elwyn came in.
Elwyn took a seat and said:
"Father Nye Games’ hacking has been trending and people are saying that they won’t buy the game anymore. The influencers are being relentless, no matter what we’ve offered they are determined to take us down."
Ludek yelled in frustration:
"Don’t you think I know that?"
He passed a hand through his hair and gnashed his teeth.
"Not only did Atlas create this big mess but he isn’t answering his cellphone. To think we decided to keep him in the house."
Elwyn felt extremely happy to hear his father’s words. He said:
"Father the only way to fix this is to get rid of the virus on the game and have a press conference to let them know that it came from a disgruntled ex-employee."
Ludek asked:
"What do you mean?"
"If I have the game file I’ll be able to find the virus and get rid of it. It’s the first thing Atlas taught me, he said that he would always double-check his work to make sure they were no problems that’s why I’m sure he did this on purpose."
Ludek frowned then asked:
"Are you sure you’ll be able to find the virus and get rid of it?"
"I will father I swear."
Ludek pushed a button and ordered:
"Bring in the Extinct file."
"Yes, president Nye."
Ludek looked at his son again and said:
"Once you believe you have dealt with it we’ll let someone play to make sure it’s truly gone. It will be quick since they encountered the virus in Chapter five of the game."
Elwyn said:
"Father you should call in a press conference for 6 pm so once it’s fixed we can tell them that it was Atlas getting retaliation for being replaced as the heir and that he’s been terminated."
Ludek looked down thinking. He never thought Atlas would do something so cruel. Just because he’s not the heir anymore he wants to destroy the company?
He knows Atlas is a genius when it comes to video games which means it’s not a mistake. His doubt came from the fact that he was sure Atlas would never betray his love for the creation of games but if Elwyn can remove the virus it will be proof.
All Elwyn knows comes from Atlas so if he told him to double check his work yet the game Extinct still ended up with a virus that means he did it on purpose.
He grabbed his cell phone and called the company’s publicist to set up a press conference.
One of the beta from production knocked and gave Elwyn the USB key. Elwyn stood up.
"Give me a few minutes and I’ll be done."
Ludek nodded and he left. Once he entered his office he immediately closed the door behind him and plugged it in. He plugged the other key that used to have the virus and looked at the clean version of the game with a smile.
Before changing the game he made sure to make a copy so when it all went down he would be able to tell everyone that he is the reason the game was fixed. He deleted the corrupt version and put the clean one instead.
Elwyn decided to go online to check what people were saying about Nye Games while he waited to make it look like he worked hard. He’s grateful for the man who helped him, it was worth paying him all that money.
He knew the influencer would lose it seeing how humiliated they’ve been. He’ll finally be done with Atlas today. He never felt happier.
After wasting time he went back to his father’s office and closed the door. He said:
"I fixed it."
Ludek gave the key to an assistant and sat behind him watching him play. Once they passed Chapter five without any problem he let out a breath and when they reached Chapter 10 still without the least bit of problem he felt like he could breathe again.
Ludek hugged Elwyn tightly.
"Thank you son I don’t what we would’ve done without you. I knew we made the right choice making you the heir."
Elwyn looked at his father with shiny eyes and grinned.
"Thank you father."
Ludek said:
"You’ll assist the press conference and let everyone know you’re the one who fixed Atlas’ sabotage. It’s a good thing he told me yesterday he is done with his new project. He’s coming home tonight anyway to get clothes I’ll talk to him at that time and toss him out of the house after taking the VR headset, controllers, and the game."
Elwyn simply nodded but inside he was jumping up and down in excitement. He can’t wait to see Atlas’s face as they toss him out.
Jacob ran to Atlas and asked:
"Have you seen what’s been trending?"
Jacob showed him the tablet and Atlas rolled his eyes. He asked:
"What did they do to your game?"
Atlas looked at Jacob and asked:
"How are you sure that I’m not responsible like my parents?"
"Because I know that creating video games is a way for you to express yourself and you would never use that to make someone’s life miserable."
Atlas smiled and he hugged Jacob. Jacob hugged him back with a smile. Atlas took his tablet and after hacking the surveillance camera at Nye Games he played a video.
The entire time the video played Jacob looked at it shocked. Elwyn is even willing to go that far to have Atlas out of their life? He’s sure he knows that the company will suffer millions in losses but doesn’t care.
He already saw that they were already a big dip in the market for Nye Games. Rumors are saying that even the old games have viruses now and that if you play humiliating information about you will be released.
His father has already removed all the games of Nye Games from Cian Cube since this morning which was a good thing.
He’s glad that Atlas told his father to cut the cord with Nye Games and that he would help to make Cian Cube one of the best video games maker.
Nye Games don’t deserve Atlas, he should work somewhere where he’ll be appreciated for his genius. He asked:
"Are you okay?"
Atlas nodded with a smile.
"I am they’re only acting the way I expected them to. They’re going to put all the blame on me during the press conference and then fire me after trying to take my latest project."
Jacob put a hand on his shoulder.
"You’re not alone father and I are here for you."
Atlas’ eyes softened.
"I know that’s why I’m okay."
Jacob caressed his head and Atlas smiled. He was surprised when Atlas asked out of the blue:
"Do you have a game idea you’ve been working on?"
Jacob answered:
"I have but I’m sure it’s not as good as yours."
"Then let’s work together and make it something amazing."
Jacob looked at Atlas stunned.
"Really?"
Atlas nodded with a smile.
"Really. I’m done with my project so I thought we could create Cian Cube’s next game together."
"Atlas that would be amazing. I’ll ask my father and see if he agrees."
"I do."
Atlas and Jacob looked at the entry. Damian came in with a smile and caressed his son’s head.
"You’ve always had a lot of great ideas when it comes to video games and no one is a bigger fan than you so I know that you and Atlas will make a great team."
Jacob felt touched by his father’s words and was unable to say anything. He took a step forward and hugged him, Damian hugged him back with a tender smile.
Atlas couldn’t stop himself from smiling.
He’s glad the three of them get along so well, he feels like they are a family like in the previous universe.
