Chapter 196: ABO / 5.7 : Truth bomb
Jacob frowned when he saw that Atlas was sitting on his father’s left. He wanted Elwyn to sit there so he can get closer to his father. Even if he hates Damian he knows that it’s important to Elwyn.
Jacob looked at Atlas and said:
"Let Elwyn sit here."
Elwyn felt happy to hear Jacob stuck up for him, he walked around the table and stood next to Atlas waiting for him to stand up. Atlas looked at Jacob and said:
"I already told Damian that I wouldn’t attend the diner if I didn’t sit next to him."
Jacob asked:
"Why does this have to be about you? This is to celebrate Elwyn and I’s engagement can’t you let this day be about him?"
Atlas raised an eyebrow.
"Didn’t I already let the day of our birthday be about him?"
Mircea said:
"Sweety that party was for you and Elwyn what are you talking about?"
"It was for Elwyn and it’s fine at this point I’m used to it."
Elwyn’s hand tightened into fists.
"Isn’t it enough that those past 18 years have been all about you?"
Atlas looked at him.
"Do you actually think I’ve been having fun? Since I was little the only thing I’ve done is slave off at Nye Game. This is the only reason you get to be the heir of the company so don’t speak about what you don’t know."
Ludek frowned, he told Elwyn not to say anything until Atlas finishes his project. He can feel that he is on the brink so they have to be more sensitive. When he saw Mircea’s furious eyes he held his hand.
Ludek smiled.
"Atlas of course we know how much you brought to the company. Elwyn just wants to sit next to his future father-in-law."
Atlas looked at Damian with narrowed eyes. Damian’s eyes flashed in amusement and he caressed his head.
"I told you I would keep your seat next to mine so you can stay."
Damian looked at Elwyn and ordered:
"Sit next to Atlas."
Jacob looked at his father angrily. He told him that he loves Elwyn and how important this dinner is to him. He looked at Elwyn taking a seat in silence but could tell he was angry.
He sat in front of Atlas and looked at him angrily. Atlas smirked at him. He asked his father:
"When did you and Atlas meet?"
Atlas said with a smile:
"During Elwyn’s birthday party."
Mircea looked at Atlas discontentedly but when he looked at him he smiled and he smiled back gently.
Atlas looked at Jacob and asked:
"How are you, Jacob?"
Jacob was surprised to hear Atlas address him after he ignored him when he entered. He is curious about his and his father’s relationship so he’ll talk to him to see what he did to make his father act like a caring father.
He answered:
"I’m okay. How are you?"
"I’m fine I’m just busy."
He asked:
"Aren’t you done working on Extinct?"
Atlas tilted his head and asked:
"How do you know the name of the game? It’s supposed to be confidential information."
Jacob opened his mouth but then closed it. He looked at Elwyn but it seem like he was worried his father might be angry if he shared confidential information with him.
He didn’t find out from Elwyn but he did mention it and when he heard the name he wasn’t surprised. He’s played all the games Atlas created and noticed a pattern in the way he names the game he just doesn’t want to say or he’ll sound like a fan.
He said:
"I noticed your pattern."
"What pattern?"
Jacob wished Atlas wouldn’t go further so he wouldn’t have to elaborate. He said:
"At the end of every game you can see multiple words flash fast on the screen and I noticed that there’s always the name of your next creation on the bottom left corner."
Atlas chuckled.
"You’re the first person who’s noticed even Ludek and Mircea didn’t."
Jacob couldn’t help but feel happy to hear that and he smiled.
Elwyn’s hands tightened into fists. When the food was brought Atlas looked at his plate with shiny eyes. He hasn’t eaten all day. Damian looked at him with a frown.
"You shouldn’t stay all day without eating even if you’re working. Someone should make sure you eat."
Atlas looked at his Er-Ge with a smile.
"It’s fine I’m used to it."
"You shouldn’t."
You would think that Ludek and Mircea would treat Atlas better seeing everything he brings to the company. He’s glad he’s going to end his relationship with them.
Elwyn said:
"He’s the one who locks himself in his room when he works."
"If I wasn’t the only one who could do what I do I wouldn’t have to work so hard."
When Elwyn saw the condescending smile on Atlas’ face he looked at his mother teary-eyed. Jacob and Damian looked at the scene in silence.
Mircea felt heartbroken and looked at Atlas.
"Atlas you shouldn’t forget that the reason you know all of this is that we paid for you to go to school and learn it."
Atlas burst out laughing.
"Are you seriously trying to rewrite history? I was helping the employee at Nye Game with coding even before I started high school. Everything I know I taught myself. I’m autodidact that’s why I finished a 6 years program in two and that was while I was working at Nye Games making you millions."
Ludek and Mircea act like they are the reason he has all this knowledge when that’s not true. Atlas is a genius everything came easily to him and they can’t even take credit for that since they’re not his parents.
If anything they should thank him for everything he’s done for Nye Games. They want him to do everything he did but let Elwyn take credit and shut his mouth.
They say he is ungrateful because he should be happy they raised him when he isn’t their son. Even before they knew they weren’t related they only cared for him because of what he brought to Nye Games.
Atlas looked at them with cold eyes and said:
"Don’t be ungrateful and bite the hand that fed you. Without me, Nye Games wouldn’t be anywhere near where it is."
Elwyn said:
"Without father and mother, you would be in foster homes!"
Ludek looked at Elwyn furiously. When Elwyn saw how angry his father was he looked at him in fear. He knows that Atlas hasn’t finished his project but he couldn’t help it.
Atlas is acting like he is the only reason Nye Games is where it is. His games are indeed part of the most famous in the world but he doesn’t have to be so haughty.
Atlas looked at Elwyn and asked with a smile:
"Is it my fault that your own mother couldn’t recognize you after giving birth to you? Is it my fault that you’re so unremarkable and forgettable?"
Elwyn looked at Atlas wide-eyed and his eyes moistened. How can he be so cruel, he already feels heartbroken that he was away from his parents and now he mocks him.
Atlas said:
"Your crocodile tears don’t work on me."
He turned around and resumed eating.
