Chapter 106: Spirit Animal / 10.11 : Mate
"Klay?"
"Klay?"
"Dragonis."
At that call, Klay glared at his mother furiously and Luna chuckled. This works every single time. When Klay was younger he struggled to spit a lot of fire so she would call him Dragonis since she thought it was cute but Klay always felt like it was insulting.
She looked toward Eden and asked:
"Is he your mate?"
Klay nodded.
"He is, he’s my soulmate and I can’t be without him."
Luna looked at him intently then said:
"It doesn’t seem like he feels the same."
Even if she could tell that Eden has feelings for Klay he said that they aren’t mates.
"He only said that because he is angry at me."
"What did you do?"
"It’s more what I didn’t do."
She tilted her head.
Klay explained:
"The first time I told him I wanted us to be together he asked why I would want to be with a hybrid freak. I said I never thought that of him and it’s the truth but he said that my friends did. They insulted and bullied him but I didn’t do anything to stop them and he is right. At home, he had Destry whispering in his ear to kill himself while at school he was bullied relentlessly."
Klay swallowed with difficulty and said:
"I can’t stop picturing his defeated face just before he decided not to jump down the bridge."
Luna looked at her son for a few seconds then said:
"Weren’t he and Destry friend?"
Klay sneered.
"He was hired by Alessa and Bastian so he could die and their bastard could inherit Knox Fort. Why do you think Res decided to leave his company to Eden and not them?"
Luna looked at Alessa and Bastian then at Eden. She sent a text and then looked at her son.
She asked:
"Are you spending the night here?"
Klay shook his head.
"Eden needs me."
"Did something happen?"
"Even if he doesn’t show anything I know that this hybrid crusade against him weighs heavy on him. I swore that he wouldn’t go through anything on his own and I meant it."
Luna simply nodded.
Eden turned around when he felt someone put a hand on his shoulder. He smiled at his lovely family. Bastian asked:
"Can we talk?"
Eden nodded, he pushed Jacob toward Jace with a stern look. Jacob reluctantly went. Eden looked at Bastian.
"How are you? I’ve seen the news online."
Bastian smiled.
"It was just a misunderstanding but it’s been resolved."
Eden simply nodded with a smile.
"Knox Fort is having a shareholder’s meeting on Monday I would like for you to come."
Eden asked curiously:
"To name the new president of the company right?"
Bastian, Alessa, and Arya were surprised that he reasoned that. Eden has never set foot at the company since he was named the heir so he doesn’t know anything about it or the field.
Alessa said:
"It is."
"What’s the point? I own 70% of the shares so I should run it right?"
The three of them forced themselves not to smile and Arya said:
"They still need to vote then you can veto since you have more shares than anyone else."
Eden nodded and said:
"Right I forgot to tell you I want you out of my house by tomorrow morning."
The three of them looked at Eden stunned. Alessa asked:
"What?"
"The house my father left me I want you out of it by tomorrow morning or my security will toss you out."
Bastian asked:
"What are you talking about Eden the house was given to us by our brother."
Eden sneered:
"Why would he leave you his house when he has a son? I have the deed of the house and his will and at the bottom, your signature acknowledges that the house will go to me once he dies. So vacate the house or my security will toss you out. Don’t make me bring my lawyer into this."
The three of them looked at Eden walk away shocked. Bastian cursed:
"That son of a bitch needs to be destroyed."
Alessa reassured:
"He will once the shareholder’s meeting is over we’ll get rid of him for good and everything Res left him will be ours."
Arya asked:
"How do you plan on doing that? People are already speculating about why Res left him everything instead of you."
Bastian looked down thinking.
Jacob walked to Jace. He seemed surprised that he would even look at him. Jacob asked a little uneasy:
"How are you?"
"I’m okay. You?"
Jacob looked at him in silence, the more he sees his face the worst he feels. He can tell that he feels guilty and seeing him like that makes him ache. He can’t even imagine how he must’ve been feeling those past few days.
He grabbed his hand and pulled him out to the garden. Jace felt a little stunned but he followed him in silence. He knows that Jacob hates him, he could feel his anger when Eden introduced them. Once they were far enough Jacob was about to let go of his hand but Jace held onto it. Jacob looked down at their laced hands, he met Jace’s eyes and asked:
"Are you really alright?"
"How am I supposed to be alright when my mate hates me?"
Jacob looked into his sad eyes and took a step closer.
"I don’t hate you I just... I didn’t like how you treated Eden he is my best friend’s mate but I know now that you didn’t have all the information."
Jace looked toward the house again then at Jacob.
"Eden told me everything."
Jace looked down and said:
"It kills me that all this time he’s been alone while Alessa and Bastian did everything in their power to break him."
Jacob pulled his hand and held his face.
"In the end, you did the right thing and that’s all that matter."
Jace met his eyes. Jacob felt his heart beating faster and he admitted with a slight blush:
"I didn’t like how I could smell her on you too."
Jace was a little stunned, turns out he was jealous. His eyes softened.
"It was just a hug and I already got rid of those clothes. I don’t feel anything for her I just saw her as a big sister."
Jacob finally relaxed hearing that, it’s been bothering him so much. The second their eyes met he knew Jace was his mate and smelling a woman on him infuriated him. He was already angry at him for arresting Eden so him having Alessa’s sent all over him only worsened the situation. Jacob asked tentatively:
"You don’t have a partner?"
"I don’t."
Jacob couldn’t stop himself from smiling and he wrapped his arms around his neck.
Even if he had he would have gotten rid of him or her. Jace is his mate no one else’s. Jace asked:
"Do you?"
"I do."
Jacob smiled brightly when Jace’s eyes darken and his horn appeared. Jace held onto his waist tightly and said domineeringly:
"You’re mine."
Jacob kissed him and Jace kissed him back. As their tongue entangled his horn disappeared and he calmed down. He pulled back and ordered:
"Give me his name."
Jacob smiled, Jace seemed to be on a mission to destroy whoever he believed to be his partner. Jacob gave him a peck and said:
"I don’t think you’ll be able to catch him."
"Why?"
Jacob said:
"He’s a detective and a dragon there’s no way you’ll be able to even lay a hand on him."
Jacob smiled maliciously. Jace narrowed his eyes, that little devil wanted to make him jealous too. In any case, he’s glad because he wasn’t planning on sharing his mate. He pulled him closer and kissed him passionately.
Eden felt someone hugging him from behind and he turned in his arms. He wrapped his arms around his neck ignoring the eyes directed at him.
"Are you okay?"
Eden’s eyes softened.
"I am. Are you?"
"I am I already told my mother that no matter what it’s you and I against the world."
Eden looked down and let go of him.
Klay lifted his head.
"What are you not telling me?"
"I know what it’s like not to have a parent figure in your life and I don’t want to be responsible for you and your mother not having a relationship anymore."
"I already told you if she can’t accept my mate she would be."
Eden looked toward Luna and saw that she was already looking at him. He looked away and said:
"I should go I have a lot to do before the Knox Fort shareholders meeting."
Klay nodded.
"Let’s go."
"Stay until the party is over then join me."
Klay was about to object when Eden gave him a peck and said before leaving:
"Or you won’t be welcome to do whatever you want to me once you’re done."
He looked at Eden whose eyes were flashing maliciously and he smiled.
