Chapter 86: Plans to Save the Sister... Another Universe

Amon returned home quite early that day, around 3:00 in the afternoon.

He returned to find Kayla taking an afternoon nap. Ciara was also fast asleep.

As soon as he stepped into the house, he noticed Mira seated on the couch, almost like an adult, with a cute, thoughtful look on her face.

"You seem invested in something," Amon commented casually as soon as he appeared using Close Yet So Far.

He’d knocked previously, and after receiving no reply, this was the only way he could enter.

"Ahh..." Mira was startled out of her thoughts by Amon’s words.

She snapped her head in his direction and was stunned to see him.

"You’re back early?" she commented, eyeing Amon with a suspicious look in her eyes.

Amon collapsed onto the seat beside her and ruffled her hair lightly.

"Yeah, there’s not much to do today."

"Not much?" Mira asked, seemingly taken aback. "How can there not be much to do..." she whispered.

Amon spread out his senses to ensure the conversation was between just the two of them, then said in a light tone,

"I’ve reached SSS-rank. There’s no room for further progress..."

Mira’s eyes trembled in shock. "S... SSS-rank? But... how?"

Her cute face turned pale as she turned to look at Amon as though she were looking at a monster.

She could hardly believe his words, but knew that Amon had no reason to lie to her.

’Does this mean sister can be saved now?? That’s not the most important issue... I recall sister saying that’s the limit of a human...’ Mira’s thoughts trailed off.

A pout appeared on her face, and after some moments of silence, she replied in a barely audible tone.

"I recall sister mentioning this. She also mentioned a method to break off the shackles of this limit, but..."

Amon’s interest was piqued.

He sat up and glanced at her, waiting for the little girl to continue.

Mira bit her lip, then said in a light tone:

"That’s a little difficult..."

"It’s alright, you can speak up." Amon ruffled her hair gently.

Mira finally nodded slowly, then said:

"It requires going to another universe entirely. Sister said that our universe has been influenced, and a restriction has been placed on everyone as long as they stay here. Only by heading to another universe will one be able to break past such limits."

Hearing her words, Amon’s eyes flashed in surprise.

The first thought that occurred to him wasn’t how difficult it was to head to another universe.

But, would his family be able to come with him?

If they wouldn’t be able to survive the spatial turbulence, then he’d rather try to gain sufficient strength here to protect them in this universe.

He just needed to keep on gathering fate points and slowly becoming a monster.

Amon thought for a bit and frowned ever so slightly, contemplating the decision.

Suddenly, a small, weak voice called out.

"Uncle... can we... save sister?"

Pulled out from his thoughts, Amon turned to glance at her, then offered her a reassuring smile.

"In that case, tomorrow we’d go to save your sister. Do you still remember the location of the dungeon where she is?"

Mira’s eyes lit up as she nodded excitedly, staring at Amon with glowing eyes.

The image of her sister popped into her mind, and her excitement was uncontrollable...

Amon watched as Mira’s small frame practically vibrated with joy.

Her eyes shimmered like stars, and a wide, unrestrained smile bloomed across her face, the kind of pure, unfiltered happiness only a child could wear so openly.

She clutched the edge of the couch cushion tightly, as if afraid the moment might slip away if she let go.

He didn’t say anything more. Instead, the room fell into a comfortable silence.

Mira remained lost in her thoughts, replaying memories of her sister, her voice, her protective embrace, the way she used to hum lullabies during cold nights.

The possibility of rescue after so long felt almost too good to be true, yet Amon’s calm assurance made it feel real.

She basked in that excitement, letting it wash over her like warm sunlight, her little legs swinging gently off the edge of the couch.

Meanwhile, Amon leaned back, his expression thoughtful.

His mind was already several steps ahead, turning over every variable like pieces on a chessboard.

’Another universe...’ The idea carried both promise and risk.

Breaking the shackles of this world’s limits sounded tempting, especially now that he had hit the ceiling of SSS-rank, but he wouldn’t gamble his family’s safety.

Kayla and Ciara came first. Always.

If the spatial turbulence was too volatile, he would find another way.

Gather more fate points. Grow stronger here. Become untouchable in this universe before even considering the leap.

He glanced at Mira again. Her silent joy was contagious in its own quiet way, softening the edges of his calculations.

For now, tomorrow’s rescue operation took priority.

He would prepare carefully. There was no need to scout the dungeon’s location in advance. After all, he could be considered the strongest in the world, enough to rival gods, and he would only get stronger from here on out.

...

The afternoon light slowly shifted across the room as minutes stretched into hours.

Kayla eventually stirred from her nap, Ciara woke with a soft cry, and the house filled once more with the gentle sounds of family.

Dinner passed in light conversation, Mira unusually quiet but glowing with hidden anticipation.

The night eventually drifted in comfortable silence, with the couple staying up late to play some midnight games and catch up on reality.

...

The Next Day

Early morning sunlight filtered through the curtains as Amon stood in the living room, fully geared and ready.

Mira bounced on her toes beside him, dressed in practical clothes with a small pack slung over her shoulder.

Her excitement from the previous evening had only grown overnight, though she tried her best to contain it in front of Kayla, who was still preparing breakfast in the kitchen.

"Are you sure you two will be alright?" Kayla asked, wiping her hands on a towel as she stepped into the room.

She looked between Amon and Mira with a mix of concern and trust. "It’s not too dangerous?"

Amon offered her a reassuring smile and pulled her into a quick embrace. "We’ll be fine. Just a quick trip. I’ll keep her safe."

Mira nodded vigorously, though her cheeks were flushed with barely contained energy. "We’ll be back before you know it, Auntie!"

Kayla sighed but ultimately relented, kissing both of them on the forehead. "Come back soon. And be careful."

Over the course of the past few days, she’d come to love the little girl, enjoying their light banter and interactions.

Hearing that she wanted to visit Amon’s workplace today, she was hesitant to let the little girl go. However, after being repeatedly reassured by Amon, she had to reluctantly agree to their request.

She glanced at the two of them one last time after the lingering kiss and nodded lightly, a warm smile spread across her face as she glanced at the little girl.

With that, Amon took Mira’s small hand in his.

He gave Kayla one last nod, then the two of them stepped outside.

The air was crisp, the world quiet save for the distant sounds of the city waking up.

Mira looked up at him, eyes bright with determination and hope.

"Ready?" Amon asked softly.

Mira tightened her grip on Amon’s hand.

Sister... I’m finally coming for you.

Amon activated Close Yet So Far.

Space folded and the world vanished.
