Chapter 110: Upgrading Collete Talent
Collete blinked, staring blankly at Amon.
"What... do you mean?"
Amon didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he quietly opened the system interface before him.
Just as he expected, the system had already pulled up the details concerning Collete.
His gaze landed on Collete’s information.
[Talent: Inevitable Vision (SSS-rank)]
A moment later, another prompt surfaced.
[Would you like to upgrade ’Inevitable Vision (SSS-rank)’?]
[Current Cost: 2 Fate Points.]
Although he was surprised that Collete’s ability was at SSS-rank, recalling its effects, which she had told him about, he felt it was only reasonable.
Without much hesitation, Amon silently confirmed it.
[Fate Points: 25 → 23]
A soft ripple spread through the room.
It wasn’t mana.
Nor was it aura.
It was something far more abstract.
The paper on the table fluttered gently despite the complete absence of wind.
The sunlight pouring through the cracked window dimmed for the briefest instant before returning to normal.
Collete suddenly stiffened and her pupils violently contracted.
"...!"
She clutched her head as countless fragmented images flooded into her mind.
Broken scenes.
Unknown faces.
A sky she had never seen before.
Entire lifetimes flashed past her vision before disappearing just as quickly.
Her breathing became uneven as she couldn’t help but let out a sharp, startled cry.
"A-Ahh..."
Thankfully, her parents weren’t around to interrupt them, so Amon could freely upgrade her talent, unburdened.
Amon silently watched Collete.
Soon enough, another notification appeared.
[Inevitable Vision has successfully advanced.]
[Talent Rank: God-Rank.]
[Next Upgrade Cost: 3 Fate Points.]
Amon didn’t stop at just one upgrade.
’Upgrade again.’
[Fate Points: 23 → 20]
The moment the confirmation was made...
Collete’s body trembled once more.
This time the surrounding space itself seemed to distort for a split second.
The room remained exactly the same.
Yet somehow...
It felt older.
As though countless years had quietly overlapped atop one another.
Memories that didn’t belong to her surfaced one after another before vanishing.
Another notification appeared.
[Talent Rank: Supreme-god Rank.]
[Next Upgrade Cost: 4 Fate Points.]
Amon stared at it for only a moment.
’Continue.’
[Fate Points: 20 → 16]
The instant the final upgrade was completed...
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Even the distant cries outside the apartment seemed to disappear.
Collete slowly lifted her head.
Her once ordinary eyes had become impossibly deep.
Within those crimson irises, countless scenes flowed continuously.
Birth.
Death.
Growth.
Decline.
The past.
The present.
The future.
Everything existed together.
A cold breath escaped her lips.
"I..."
She slowly looked around the room.
"I can..."
Her gaze landed on the table and almost instinctively, she saw it.
The tree the wood had once belonged to.
The lumberjack who had cut it down.
The craftsman who had carved it into a table.
Years passed within a single heartbeat.
Her eyes shifted toward the pencil in her hand.
Again...
She witnessed its entire existence.
From beginning...
To end.
Collete’s breathing gradually became heavier.
She looked at Amon.
The moment her eyes met his...
She froze.
"...Huh?"
Her pupils narrowed as she looked again.
Nothing.
She couldn’t see anything.
No past.
No present.
No future.
It was as though Amon simply didn’t exist within the river of time.
"...Impossible..."
Collete subconsciously reached toward him.
"I... I can’t see you..."
Amon’s expression remained calm as he asked, a faint glimmer of curiousity appearing in his eyes.
"You can’t?"
She slowly shook her head.
"I can see everyone..."
Her voice trembled.
"I can see where they came from."
"I can see what they’re doing now."
"I can even see what they’ll become..."
She looked into Amon’s eyes once more.
"But..."
"I can’t see anything about you."
"It... it’s blank."
"No..."
Her face slowly paled.
"It’s worse than blank."
"It’s like..."
"You don’t belong there."
For the first time since awakening her ability...
Collete looked genuinely frightened.
Even Amon’s eyes narrowed slightly.
He had expected some changes.
But not this.
His existence...
Had somehow escaped even a Divine-ranked talent.
The room fell silent.
Neither of them spoke.
Then...
Collete suddenly gasped.
Her entire body violently trembled.
Her eyes lost focus as countless visions erupted before her.
Sheets of paper scattered across the floor.
The pencil slipped from her fingers.
Her breathing became frantic.
"A-Amon..."
She wasn’t looking at him anymore.
She was looking through him.
As though her gaze had pierced countless kilometers in an instant.
"I..."
"I see them..."
Amon immediately became alert.
"What do you see?"
Her lips trembled.
"...Six."
"There are six of them."
Her face grew increasingly pale with every word.
"They’re... terrifying..."
"I’ve never seen beings like them before."
"The monsters around them..."
"They’re kneeling."
"No..."
"They’re running away."
"Even the sky..."
Her voice cracked.
"It becomes dark wherever they pass."
Amon’s eyes slowly narrowed.
His grip unconsciously tightened.
"What are they doing?"
Collete swallowed hard.
"They’re coming here."
"They’re coming to this planet."
"They want to erase everything."
"Nobody survives."
Her trembling became even more violent.
"They’re looking for someone..."
Her voice fell to a whisper.
"You."
The room became deathly quiet.
Amon stood there without speaking.
Six terrifying figures...
Looking for him.
His expression remained calm, yet his thoughts quietly stirred.
’Wrath...’
He had killed one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
If six remained...
Then there was only one possible answer.
The rest...
Were finally making their move.
Amon remained silent.
The room fell into a heavy stillness.
Only Collete’s uneven breathing could be heard as she struggled to calm herself.
After a long while, Amon finally spoke.
"Can you see where they are?"
Collete closed her eyes.
The countless scenes flowing through her vision gradually settled into one.
She nodded weakly.
"They’re very far away..."
Her brows furrowed.
"I don’t know where..."
"It feels... dark."
"So dark."
"It isn’t nighttime."
"It’s... something else."
Her body shivered involuntarily.
"They’re walking through a place where even the light doesn’t exist."
Amon quietly memorized every word that she spoke.
"How long until they arrive here?"
Collete’s expression stiffened and after some silence, her lips slowly parted.
"Three days at most."
Amon’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
Three days.
That was both long and incredibly short.
If they truly were the remaining Deadly Sins, then running wasn’t an option.
They would eventually find him regardless.
After all...
Wrath hadn’t appeared by coincidence.
The moment he died, the others would undoubtedly know.
Just then, the system’s mechanical voice echoed within Amon’s mind.
[The host has altered a destined future.]
[Collete’s Talent has evolved beyond its predetermined limit.]
[Fate has begun correcting itself.]
Amon frowned.
’Correcting itself...?’
Before he could ask another question, another notification appeared.
[Warning.]
[The probability of encountering high-order existences has increased.]
[Current Fate Deviation: 17.6%]
The notification disappeared as quickly as it had appeared.
Amon quietly fell into thought.
Every action seemed to produce consequences he couldn’t yet understand.
The stronger he became...
The more the world itself seemed to react.
Across from him, Collete had yet to recover.
She stared blankly at the floor, as though she were still watching countless futures unfold before her eyes.
"...Amon."
"Hm?"
"I... I don’t think they’re coming because they want to destroy the city anymore."
He looked at her.
"What do you mean?"
Collete hesitated and her fingers tightened around the edge of the bed.
"They don’t even care about the city... they’re only walking through it."
"The people... they’re just..."
She lowered her head as she muttered.
"In the way."
Those simple words carried far more weight than any elaborate explanation.
The city.
Its millions of lives.
To those six beings...
They were nothing more than obstacles beneath their feet.
Amon slowly exhaled.
His expression remained calm, yet his mind was already moving.
If they were truly coming for him, then there was no reason to allow the battlefield to become this city.
He had no particular attachment to it.
But neither did he intend to let innocent people disappear because of his existence.
His fingers lightly tapped the edge of the bed.
Three days.
That was enough.
Enough to grow stronger.
Enough to prepare.
Enough... to kill another Sin.
A faint smile slowly appeared on Amon’s face.
Not one born from confidence.
Nor excitement.
It was simply anticipation.
If Wrath had already been that powerful...
Then the remaining six would only be stronger.
Amon felt that after killing the seven deadly sins it was only right that he would obtain the required strength to activate his main body.
After the words Collete told him about him having no past, present, or future, Amon understood that it was finally time to stop doubting the system.
The system was right... the butcher was coming back.
