Chapter 529: Chapter 529: Can We Still See Each Other Often?
Serena was silent for a moment, looking at Silas Hawthorne.
Silas Hawthorne let out a long sigh and told her what happened after she lost consciousness in the fire.
During the entire process, Julian Lawson was waiting at the door.
Time slowly passed.
Serena remained silent until Silas finished speaking.
After a while, Serena looked again at Julian Lawson’s leg.
Finally, she nodded.
Julian Lawson over there also secretly let out a sigh of relief.
Silas Hawthorne adjusted Serena’s sitting posture again to make her more comfortable, then placed a bell in her hand so she could ring if she needed anything.
He looked at her and said, "I’ll be right outside the door."
Serena nodded.
Silas Hawthorne squeezed her hand again before turning to leave.
As he reached the door, Silas glanced down at Julian Lawson.
"Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to her," Julian Lawson said, looking towards Serena, "I knew it a year ago..."
Silas Hawthorne slightly lowered his eyes, not knowing what to think, then turned his head and walked out, gently closing the door behind him.
"Clack."
A soft closing of the door sounded, Julian Lawson controlled his wheelchair and came to Serena’s bedside.
The lights were bright, and the two met each other’s gaze.
"Serena." Finally, Julian Lawson was the first to speak.
Serena looked at Julian Lawson without responding.
This name was once a term between them, and now, she had a new lover.
In the air, everything was silent, the moonlight outside shone in, illuminating these two who once loved each other.
After a long time, Serena gently lowered her eyes, looking at his injured leg.
"Will your leg be okay?" she asked.
"It won’t be," Julian Lawson replied, "I’ve had many surgeries, it can only recover to this extent."
"I can stand, and I can walk, it’s just slower, needing a crutch, daily..." Julian Lawson paused slightly and continued, "Daily, I just use a wheelchair."
Serena nodded, not knowing what to say.
After all, Julian Lawson’s injured leg was from stopping Preston Langley, from saving her.
The wind lightly blew, outside the window the moonlight was bright.
"Find someone new." She finally said.
Julian Lawson’s eyes slightly reddened, looking at her.
She was also looking at him.
Under the lights, just awakened, she looked pale and weak but her words were firm.
She had said this sentence to him many times before.
Only back then he always held onto a thread of hope, thinking if he could clear up the misunderstandings, she’d come back and forgive him.
Until a year ago...
Serena looked at Julian Lawson, feeling somewhat sad.
"Perhaps in the past, there was a misunderstanding between us," she said softly, "before, you had explained to me..."
"I understand you, but Julian," Serena looked at him, spoke softly, "We’ve missed our chance."
Julian Lawson’s eyes were terrifyingly red, looking at her, his throat blocked by emotion, unable to speak.
"Sometimes, you need to believe in some fate," she said, "Missed is missed, I’ve already fallen in love with someone else, between you and me... that’s all there is."
The wind continued to blow gently, Serena suddenly felt a bit cold, shrinking slightly.
Julian Lawson saw this and reached to pull up her blanket a bit, so she could be warmer.
But she held the blanket and turned her face away.
Julian Lawson put down his hand.
"Really can’t return to how it was?" he asked hoarsely.
Serena didn’t look at him, the answer was clear.
"Then in the future..." he looked at her profile, sadly said, "Can we still often see each other?"
"Just like friends."
She still didn’t look at him, just gently lowered her eyes, long eyelashes covering the emotions in her eyes, making it hard to read her feelings.
The room was silent.
Silence fell again.
No one knew how much time had passed, he raised his head again, looking at her.
"I want to give Seraphina something," Julian Lawson said, not waiting for her to say anything, and continued, "Don’t refuse."
"I really like Seraphina, from a long, long time ago, I’ve always treated her as my own child, even though you’ve never agreed, but this is my true thought."
Julian Lawson spoke, his voice clear in the quiet ward.
"When we... parted, you didn’t take much, this, let Seraphina have it, it’s not compensation, it’s because I truly treat her as a daughter."
"Just consider it, for my injured leg, let her accept it."
Serena’s hand holding the blanket tightened slightly, but she still didn’t say anything.
"Rest well," Julian Lawson said, giving her no chance to refuse, "I’ll go back for now, later... come to see you again."
After speaking, he controlled the wheelchair, closing the window slightly then heading out.
Opening the door, Silas Hawthorne was standing at the door.
Julian Lawson didn’t say much, just nodded at Silas Hawthorne and then controlled the wheelchair to leave.
Silas Hawthorne didn’t say anything, watched Julian Lawson leave, he turned around to enter the ward, closing the door.
Walking to Serena’s side, Silas Hawthorne held her hand.
After thinking a bit, he said, "Julian Lawson gave the Tanzanite-made jewelry to Seraphina, while you were still in a coma, I thought and let Seraphina accept it."
Serena turned her head to look at Silas Hawthorne.
Silas Hawthorne let out a long sigh, reached to take her into his arms.
"Julian Lawson asked me, he said he wants to be Seraphina’s godfather," Silas Hawthorne continued, "I haven’t given him an answer yet."
"Serena..."
Silas Hawthorne spoke, gently stroking her hair.
"Sometimes I think, the entanglement between the three of us may never end in this lifetime."
He held her tightly, "But now you’re my wife."
Silas Hawthorne didn’t hear Serena reply, he looked down and found she had fallen asleep leaning against him.
He smiled.
"Waking up and talking to so many people is tiring, rest well." Silas Hawthorne said softly, "We still have a long, long time ahead."
He reached and touched her small nose, then poked her cheek, soft, it recessed slightly under his touch, but she still didn’t wake up.
Thinking, Silas found this amusing again.
"Your sleep quality now is much better than before," he said.
Recalling before, those countless nights she was awakened by nightmares, or those nights she woke quickly due to overthinking, it was completely different now.
Thinking, Silas felt a bit sad again.
Clearly, her body couldn’t take it, it was not the same as previous light sleep.
He thought a bit, laid her down properly, then went out to make a phone call.
Meanwhile, Julian Lawson had already gone downstairs and sat in the car.
