Chapter 640: Chapter 640: Couldn’t Keep Her?
Just then, there was a knock on the hospital room door.
Chloe Reed opened her eyes and looked over. Through the frosted glass, she could see the blurry silhouette of a tall man standing at the door.
She checked the time. It was already past eight in the evening.
’Who would be here at this hour?’
She walked over and opened the door to find a bodyguard standing stiffly outside.
When he saw her open the door, he instinctively took two steps back and said, "Ma’am, Mr. Grant isn’t doing well. Could you please come over?"
Hearing this, Chloe Reed’s eyelid twitched. She immediately pulled out her phone and typed, and a mechanical female voice spoke, "What’s wrong with him?"
The bodyguard shook his head. "I’m not sure either. It seems Mr. Grant... has lost consciousness."
Without a second thought, Chloe Reed ran toward Walker Grant’s room.
Seeing this, the bodyguard hurriedly called out, "Ma’am, please slow down...!"
But Chloe Reed paid him no mind. She quickly reached Walker Grant’s room to find him lying on the hospital bed, his face still pale and his thin lips slightly chapped. He was muttering something under his breath.
His eyes were wrapped in gauze, making it impossible to read his expression.
Chloe Reed walked over, took his hand, and traced the words "What’s wrong?" into his palm.
But the man didn’t respond.
She could faintly hear the sound of his voice.
Chloe Reed leaned down, getting so close her ear was pressed against his thin lips as she tried to make out his words.
"Chloe, it hurts... I’m in so much pain..."
The murmurs were quiet and intermittent. It took Chloe Reed a while to clearly hear what he said.
A bitter feeling washed over her.
She squeezed his hand tightly.
As if sensing her presence, his restless, pained state gradually subsided, and he stopped muttering.
Seeing this, Chloe Reed breathed a sigh of relief.
’He must have been having a nightmare. That’s why he was like that.’
She pulled her hand away and turned to leave.
The bodyguard was at the door. He was slightly taken aback when he saw her about to leave and quickly asked, "Ma’am, you’re not staying?"
Chloe Reed shook her head.
The bodyguard grew anxious, his eyes darting around as he scrambled for an excuse. "But... what if Mr. Grant gets like that again? Ma’am, you should really stay."
Chloe Reed looked at his face, her limpid eyes flickering slightly, before pulling out her phone to type.
"He’ll still have nightmares whether I’m here or not. It will stop once his body has recovered."
Listening to the cold, emotionless mechanical voice, the bodyguard felt like he might not be getting his salary this month.
’I really did my best!’
’Making a bodyguard who specializes in fighting do this kind of thing... it’s just asking too much!’
He could only watch helplessly as Chloe Reed put her phone away and turned to leave.
Afterward, his shoulders slumped, and he went inside the room.
The man on the bed spoke, his tone a little cool. "Couldn’t get her to stay?"
The bodyguard trembled. "Mr. Grant, I... I did my best..."
"Hah."
Walker Grant let out a short, soft laugh, then said, "Just stand guard at the door."
The bodyguard replied, "Yes, sir."
Chloe Reed returned to her room, took a shower, and lay down in bed, ready to sleep. But just as she was starting to feel drowsy, her door was knocked on again.
Her brow furrowed. She opened the door to see the same bodyguard, who was now scratching his head. "Ma’am, something’s really wrong with Mr. Grant. I think he’s... sleepwalking."
’What?!’
A look of utter disbelief appeared on Chloe Reed’s face.
’She and Walker Grant had been together for over eight years, and he had never sleepwalked before!’
