Chapter 641: Chapter 641: Can’t Find Her
"R-Really."
The bodyguard was starting to lose his confidence under her gaze.
Chloe Reed raised an eyebrow slightly, then turned and walked toward Walker Grant’s hospital room.
’I want to see for myself just what his sleepwalking looks like.’
Pushing open the door, she saw Walker Grant curled up on the hospital bed, clutching his head and muttering something. He didn’t look right at all.
Seeing this, Chloe Reed didn’t approach him. Instead, she calmly took out her phone and started recording.
The bodyguard following her stared with wide, astonished eyes.
’Uh... no way.’
’Is this right?’
’Seeing Mr. Grant in such pain, shouldn’t his wife be going over to comfort him?’
’And then, out of worry, she’d stay and not leave.’
’But why isn’t this scene following the script?’
"Ahem..."
The bodyguard coughed loudly and, bracing himself, asked, "Ma’am, why are you recording?"
After saying that, he felt like his life was over.
’Being a bodyguard is such a miserable fate!’
’His wife can’t speak, Mr. Grant can’t see, and if I don’t say anything, Mr. Grant will just keep up his act... It’ll be so awkward if she records the whole thing.’
Chloe Reed turned her head, blinked at him, and the corners of her lips curved into a smile.
The bodyguard was speechless.
’Why did I suddenly feel a chill run down my spine?’
Meanwhile, the man on the bed was still clutching his head, his back to the door, curled up as if he were the picture of vulnerability.
Chloe recorded for over two minutes, and he held that pose for the entire time.
She couldn’t help but admire his acting. His commitment to the role was truly impressive.
She put her phone away, walked to the bedside, pulled up a chair, sat down, and began typing.
A mechanical female voice soon rang out in the quiet hospital room.
"Walker Grant, do you find this fun?"
The door to the room was quietly closed.
After the mechanical voice faded, the room fell silent once more.
After a long moment, the man’s hoarse voice finally sounded. "My eyes hurt."
Chloe’s typing faltered. She stared at the words she had just typed on the screen, then slowly deleted them, one by one.
"I want you to stay and keep me company," Walker Grant said again. He stopped playing games and decided to be direct.
He turned over to face her and reached out, but since he didn’t know her exact location, his hand grasped at the empty air beside her.
Seeing this, Chloe’s eyes suddenly stung.
She blinked rapidly and began typing in a slight fluster.
"Just lie down properly."
"Chloe?"
Walker heard the direction the mechanical voice came from and realized he had reached for the wrong spot. His hand froze in mid-air for a moment, then slowly adjusted its position, inching toward her.
When his hand touched her shoulder, his fingertips trembled.
His thin lips suddenly twisted into a bitter smile. In a low voice, he said, "Chloe, as I am now, I can no longer find you. If you want, you can disappear from my world at any time."
As much as he didn’t want to admit it, an immense panic had already drowned him the moment he realized he couldn’t touch or sense her.
His wildly beating heart felt as if it were being brutally torn apart by a pair of invisible hands.
’She always wanted a divorce, always wanted to leave me.’
’And now, this is a golden opportunity.’
’She... she’ll still leave, won’t she?’
’And this time, it seems there’s no way for me to keep her.’
His fingertips lingered on her shoulder, then slowly fell away before he finally pulled his hand back.
