Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Must the Villain Die?
Gu Zhao fell asleep lying on a tiger’s belly.
The other two tigers each had a child sleeping on them as well.
Zhong Mingrui snuggled against the tiger’s belly. It was so soft and fluffy!
This is pure bliss!
Song Yi was snuggling too, but he wasn’t just snuggling—he was showing off to his older brother. "Big Brother, it’s so soft! And warm! This is so comfy!"
Song Zhe, tucked away in his sleeping bag, watched with eyes full of envy.
The director had prepared essentials like sleeping bags for them. After all, this was an expedition, not a suicide mission.
Zhong Siqi was also envious. He was sleeping on a tiger! Just saying it out loud sounded awesome.
Gu Xulin was the only one who wasn’t envious. He was just worried about Gu Zhao, terrified she might roll off.
Sigh. ’Such a handful, this kid.’
[Song Yi, that’s enough! What are you showing off for! Song Zhe, learn from Teacher Siqi! Spank the kid!]
[Song Zhe: I’m just wrapped in my sleeping bag, like an outsider (PoutyFace.jpg)]
[Suddenly worried the tiger will roll over... Never mind, I’m not gonna think about it. I’m just gonna get my fix first! That fluffy belly, I could bury my face in it and sniff it all day!]
The savanna night was not entirely quiet. The wind rustled through the grass with a SHUSH, occasionally punctuated by the low howls of distant hyenas.
The calls of animals rose and fell around them, but Gu Zhao and the others slept soundly.
The leopard slept nearby, vigilantly watching their surroundings.
...
"Aren’t you a Fubao! Aren’t you supposed to be able to make animals save you! Do something! Make them go away!" Song Jina yelled, clinging to the tree trunk, not daring to look down.
Below the tree, dozens of hyenas were lying in wait, with a few occasionally trying to climb up.
Ye Zuiyi’s expression darkened. ’It’s not like I don’t want to!’
’These hyenas are completely ignoring me! I’m starting to wonder if my luck has even returned! Why am I so unlucky right now?!’
"Can you just shut up!" Yu Zimo glared at Song Jina, irritated.
Song Jina shot back, "No! Weren’t you the ones praising her, calling her some Fubao fairy! Then tell her to hurry up and save us!"
Zhou Lan was terrified too. Up in the tree, she could almost smell the rotten stench of the hyenas.
But she was an adult. She couldn’t just demand to know why Ye Zexi hadn’t driven them away.
Besides, saying it out loud would make her sound delusional. She still didn’t believe anyone could actually command animals.
"Maybe we should just ask the production crew for a rescue..." Zhou Lan said with a bitter expression. But even as she said it, she didn’t signal ’give up’ to the camera drone.
As long as someone else gave up, they would be rescued all the same.
"Heh, you’re so calculating. Do you take us for idiots?" Ye Zexi shot her a cold, mocking glance.
Zhou Lan was completely unaffected, simply offering a gentle smile. "I was just making a suggestion. It’s fine if you don’t agree."
"Mom, why are you being so polite to them? She’s just faking her whole persona! For all we know, the meat she picked up belonged to these hyenas! They’re here for revenge!" Song Jina’s tone was exceptionally aggressive. ’If I’d known this would happen, we should have gone off on our own. Now look at us, stuck in a tree because of Ye Zuiyi.’
"What did you just say?! Explain yourself!" Ye Zexi’s face turned completely grim. He glared at Song Jina with a look that could have cremated her.
Song Jina’s face went pale with fright. She had never been treated like this in her entire life. Tears instantly welled up in her eyes.
Zhou Lan’s heart ached for her. "An’an, don’t cry, Mommy’s here."
"What good are you! You just stand there and watch them bully me!" Song Jina burst into tears.
"If you want to cry, go cry on the ground," Yu Zimo snapped, fed up.
Song Jina didn’t dare to cry out loud anymore, shedding silent tears instead.
[My god, what a train wreck! They’re still arguing up in a tree. Even the hyenas are probably shaking their heads.]
[Song Jina is still whining at a time like this? If Ye Zuiyi could really command hyenas, would they be stuck in a tree right now?]
[Where’s the production crew? Do something! Stop just filming! Someone’s going to die if this keeps up!]
They remained in the tree for an unknown amount of time. The temperature on the savanna drops significantly at night.
All their gear had been left below, and now they were shivering from the cold.
Ye Zuiyi’s hatred for Gu Zhao skyrocketed. ’It’s all Gu Zhao’s fault! That vicious villain stole my luck!’
’Otherwise, according to my past life, or the original plot, Gu Zhao shouldn’t be like this at all!’
’Damn it, damn it! Stupid Heavenly Dao!!’
BOOM!
A loud thunderclap echoed across the sky.
"AH!" Ye Zuiyi jumped in fright, her face pale.
’Could there really be a Heavenly Dao...?’
"Waaaaah." Song Jina finally broke down completely as the sky was suddenly obscured by dark clouds.
The sky grew grim.
"It’s going to rain," Yu Xiaowei said, looking at the sky, on the verge of tears herself. ’What is this? When it rains, it pours?’
’Oh, Gu Zhao! She missed Gu Zhao dearly right now.’
’She was sure Gu Zhao and her group were eating well and sleeping well, not like them—they tried to roast some meat, didn’t even get a single bite, and then had their camp ransacked by hyenas.’
’We climbed a tree to save our lives, and now there’s thunder.’
’This is the only tree around. Aren’t we just living targets on a lightning rod?!’
"We can’t stay in this tree any longer," Ye Zexi said, his expression exceptionally grave.
No one else disagreed, but the problem was the hyenas still eyeing them covetously from below.
The hyenas also seemed to understand that it wasn’t safe under the tree. They backed away a few steps and just stared at them.
Just waiting for them to come down.
"Get lost!" Ye Zuiyi yelled at the hyenas below. She couldn’t worry about anything else now; she had to try every method possible.
She prayed that some of her luck had returned.
The hyenas did not appreciate this aggressive two-legged cub! They were just about to roar a warning at her when the lead hyena suddenly seemed to sense something. It let out a whimper and pawed at the ground a few times.
The other hyenas grew restless as well, their ears drooping and their tails tucked tightly between their legs.
Another bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, and they immediately ran off.
Ye Zuiyi: ???
Excitement followed. They were saved!
Ye Zexi was also delighted. After everyone climbed down, Yu Zimo looked at the pale-faced Song Jina.
"We don’t dare travel with you anymore, lest you blame Zuiyi again when something happens."
Song Jina refused to bow her head to them again. She turned and stormed off, and Zhou Lan had no choice but to follow.
The two of them forgot to grab any of their supplies.
[That’s not a wise decision. There’s no way the hyenas’ departure was that simple.]
[What’s with all the overthinking? The hyenas were obviously scared of our Yibao.]
[They should hurry up and find a place to shelter from the rain.]
Meanwhile, Gu Zhao was woken up just before the rain started.
"HISSSSSSS!" A snake slithered onto Gu Zhao, trying its best to wake her.
The leopard sensed the intruder first. It opened its eyes, walked over, and bared its fangs in warning.
The snake panicked. "A snake relative says there’s a huge storm elsewhere! A flood is coming!"
The leopard immediately let out a roar, and the tigers woke up instantly.
Gu Xulin and the others woke up as well.
The leopard explained to Gu Zhao, whose expression immediately turned serious after hearing it.
"Big Brother! Pack up! A flood is coming."
’Our luck is a bit rotten! We ran into poachers in the first episode, and now we’re facing a flood?’
’I feel like the Heavenly Dao is targeting me! Does this villain really have to die?!’
Gu Zhao’s group quickly packed their things. Gu Zhao hung the little snake around her neck and mounted the leopard. Zhong Siqi, Gu Xulin, and Song Zhe got on the three tigers.
Gu Zhao also had the leopard call over two more leopards, which Zhong Mingrui and Song Yi then rode.
The animals quickly ran towards higher ground.
Meanwhile, Ye Zuiyi’s group, having escaped the hyenas, returned to the rocky area to retrieve their gear.
"Let’s get something to eat first," Ye Zexi said, clutching his stomach. It ached, and his legs were sore from kneeling for so long.
A voice inside Ye Zuiyi urged her to leave immediately, but seeing Ye Zexi in discomfort, she hesitated.
