Chapter 66: Chapter 66: The Butt Needs Insurance
"Brother, I have a really bad feeling... Let’s get out of here," Ye Zuiyi said, deciding to trust her instincts.
Ye Zexi held back his objections and nodded.
Yu Zimo was also hungry and tired, but he wouldn’t argue with Ye Zuiyi. As for Yu Xiaowei, no one cared about the poor sap’s opinion anyway.
The group gathered their things and prepared to leave, but just then, the ground began to shake.
They looked over and saw a massive horde of animals stampeding toward them!
"Run!" Ye Zexi immediately grabbed Ye Zuiyi and bolted.
Yu Zimo and Yu Xiaowei also sprinted forward with all their might.
Fortunately, the animals weren’t headed in the same direction. After running for a while, Ye Zuiyi’s group stopped, panting heavily.
"What’s going on? Have they all gone mad?" Yu Zimo, no longer caring about his appearance, collapsed weakly onto the ground.
Ye Zuiyi’s sense of unease intensified. She looked around; in the distance, herds of animals were stampeding toward the horizon.
"Brother, we can’t rest! We need to get moving, quickly," Ye Zuiyi said, her voice laced with anxiety.
Ye Zexi thought his sister was probably just scared. He reached out and ruffled her hair reassuringly. "It’s okay. It’s likely just animal migration season."
Ye Zuiyi shook her head. "Brother, I don’t think that’s what this is."
[Come on, hurry up!! Yibao, trust your gut!!!]
[I’m more anxious than the people actually in the situation!! Stop talking! Just run!]
Just as Ye Zexi was about to offer a few more words of comfort, they heard human voices.
"AHHHHHHHH, THIS IS SO COOL! Hurry! Let’s catch up to Big King!" Zhong Mingrui yelled while riding on a leopard, his arms wrapped tightly around its neck to keep from falling off.
"Zhong Mingrui, shut your mouth! With your mouth hanging open like that, are you trying to get a stomachache from swallowing wind?" Zhong Siqi was exasperated by his antics. ’What a brat!’
Zhong Mingrui looked bewildered. "What’d you say, Bro? The wind’s too loud, I can’t hear you!"
Zhong Siqi: "Just shut your mouth!"
’Mouth?’ Zhong Mingrui was even more confused. ’What’s wrong with my mouth?’
Though he didn’t understand what his brother was trying to say, he still flashed him a smile.
’It’s tough taking care of an older brother,’ he thought. ’Might as well just smile.’
Zhong Siqi: ???!!
’Fuck! Is he provoking me?’
"Overtake them!" Zhong Siqi yelled, gripping the tiger tightly. Realizing the local animals might speak a different language, he even made a point of saying it in English.
The tiger actually understood and immediately picked up speed.
’Time to give this tiny two-legger a little shock!’
Seeing this, Ye Zexi’s face darkened. "What are you people doing now?!"
Too bad no one paid him any attention. Gu Zhao and the others didn’t even see them, simply vanishing like the wind.
Ye Zexi’s group was left eating their dust, standing there in utter disarray.
Growing even more uneasy, Ye Zuiyi grabbed Ye Zexi and started running.
Ye Zexi was starting to get annoyed too. ’Gu Zhao gets to ride a leopard, so why do I have to run on foot?!’
’That Gu Zhao has no gratitude at all. I took care of her for five years for nothing.’
Everyone was in a foul mood. They ran for a while longer until another rumbling sound echoed from behind them.
This time, when they looked back, everyone’s face went white.
"It’s a flood!" Yu Xiaowei cried, staring in disbelief at the surging waters. The spot where they had been resting just moments ago was now completely submerged.
Ye Zexi froze solid. He didn’t dare to imagine what would have happened to him if he hadn’t listened to Ye Zuiyi and run...
’He’d probably be dead by now.’
At that thought, his legs went weak. It felt like he had almost crossed the Naihe Bridge just now.
Thank goodness for Ye Zuiyi.
Ye Zexi’s gaze on Ye Zuiyi softened. His own sister was truly his Fubao!
Yu Zimo was just as terrified. ’Did I almost die?’
He felt a chill run through his entire body... It was only when he looked at Ye Zuiyi that he felt any warmth return.
Ye Zuiyi herself was frightened too, but Ye Zexi and Yu Xiaowei were the first to recover.
"We have to keep moving. It’s still too low here," Yu Xiaowei said with a frown. ’This is so hard,’ she thought.
While they struggled to escape the disaster, Gu Zhao and her group had already reached a safe zone.
"Brother, the situation isn’t good," Gu Zhao said, looking at Gu Xulin with a serious expression.
Gu Xulin was a little baffled by her seriousness. "What’s wrong?"
Gu Zhao rubbed her stomach. "I’m hungry..."
’I was woken up first thing in the morning to run for my life, I’m so hungry and tired, and my butt hurts.’
’Who would’ve thought that riding a fluffy leopard for so long would make my butt hurt?’
’Next time, I’m getting insurance for my butt.’
’My butt is useless.’
"AWOOO, BIG KING, SAVE ME!!" someone whose butt was in even worse shape than Gu Zhao’s was howling.
Zhong Siqi held Zhong Mingrui down and gave his bottom a few smacks. "Go on, keep smiling! Keep provoking me! I told you not to keep your mouth open and swallow wind! But you just had to! And you even smiled!"
"I didn’t! WAHHHH!" Zhong Mingrui burst into aggrieved tears.
Song Yi sat off to the side, his head propped in his hands, just watching.
Song Zhe watched the animals excitedly. Besides their small group, this safe zone was also filled with all sorts of animals seeking refuge.
Hearing Gu Zhao say she was hungry, he rubbed his own stomach and suddenly felt hungry too.
Zhong Siqi finally let Zhong Mingrui go.
With tears welling in his eyes, Zhong Mingrui looked like he had been horribly mistreated.
When Gu Xulin heard Gu Zhao say she was hungry, he said expressionlessly, "Then starve."
His mouth said one thing, but his actions were quite honest.
He walked over to the tigers and unloaded the things from their backs.
It was the gifts the tigers had brought yesterday.
He had cleverly used some rope to tie the items to their backs before they started their journey.
A light rain was still falling.
Gu Xulin kept one deer and gave the other two kills to the tigers and leopards, one for each group.
The animals shared the food amongst themselves. It wasn’t enough to fill them up, but it served as a small snack.
"We have to figure out a way to build a rain shelter," Gu Xulin said, worried.
Otherwise, forget starting a fire; they would all catch colds in no time.
"Easy," Gu Zhao said, running over to a few elephants that had been furtively watching her.
Gu Xulin didn’t react. He was used to it. At this point, he wouldn’t even be surprised if Gu Zhao deliberately crawled into an animal’s mouth.
He would, however, spank her.
Hua Baozi was very perceptive. Seeing Gu Zhao go over, it followed her.
With this "translator" present, Gu Zhao had no communication barrier with them.
The elephants nodded, affectionately nudged Gu Zhao’s hand with their trunks, and then walked to the edge of the floodwaters to pick up logs with their trunks.
The leopards quickly dug holes in the ground. The elephants placed the logs in, and the leopards filled the holes with dirt.
After repeating this process a few times, a basic frame took shape. The elephants then picked up a few logs with forked branches.
They used their trunks to steadily place the forked logs on top of the frame they had built, then laid many more branches over this foundation.
At some point, the leopards had dragged over several large leaves, which the elephants then helped place on top.
A simple rain shelter.
[I’m starting to think they’re smarter than me...]
[This shelter might be crude, but it’s full of primal wisdom! Those forked branches make a super stable frame, and using wide leaves for a roof is genius. Did these animals graduate with degrees in architecture?]
[I’m speechless right now. All I can say is, Monkey King is the GOAT!]
Song Zhe and Zhong Siqi went to prepare the meat, while Gu Xulin searched the surrounding area for some relatively dry firewood.
The rain wasn’t too heavy, so some of the branches hidden beneath leaves and in bushes hadn’t gotten very wet and could still be lit.
He gathered some and placed it in the shelter. An elephant thoughtfully brought over a thick log. Although the log was wet, they weren’t picky.
They were all wet themselves.
