Chapter 499: The Interview.
On arriving back at the Dungeon of Souls, Trinidad took all of them straight to the home of the legendary Veiled Healer since they didn’t want to waste time.
The Veiled Healer was already waiting for them.
Once she arrived at the home of this predator who Sebastian praised with such esteem and raised to such a high pedestal, Queen Heareth was humbled as for the first time in her life, she met a superior beast with her magic domain.
In a literal sense, they had different magic domains but the utility of both magic domains was the same.
No 2 healing magic domains were completely the same.
Queen Heareth did not dare to look at the face of the massive Starfish. Even she was shocked by the fact that this legendary healer was a Starfish, but none of these was able to diminish her respect for her.
"What is your name?" The Veiled Healer asked with a booming voice.
"My name is Heareth?"
"In your own terms, what do you understand by healing?"
The interview already started.
Queen Heareth was a bit startled by the sudden change from normal questioning into official questioning, she was startled but only for a moment as the next moment, she recovered and thought before giving her reply.
"Healing is a process to make free from injury or disease". Queen Heareth hesitated before she continued. "Most beasts that I’ve spoken to don’t agree with me, but I think healing is a process of making well again".
"Hmm, short and concise, a straightforward personality, I like it". The Veiled Healer complimented before she continued. "Can you elaborate on the making well again part of your explanation?"
"Yes, your lordship..."
"Call me Veiled Healer".
"Ok, Veiled Healer".
"Good, now continue".
"During my decades of practicing with and making use of my healing magic domain, I learned that healing entails more than just physical repairs".
"On more than 1 occasion, I have been in encounters where my comrades and siblings already recovered from their physical injuries but they never healed".
"They no longer have a scar or any signs that indicate an injury, but they never recovered. At first, I thought that this was because of hidden internal injuries but with time, I discovered that I was wrong".
"This was when I learned about the phenomenon of psychological injuries".
"I was clueless at first, but with time, perseverance, and unending research, I succeeded in creating a skill that could aid in healing psychological injuries".
"I call it pacify".
"From this, I learned that healing entails more than just physical repairs".
"...show it to me". After remaining silent for a few seconds, the Veiled Healer suddenly spoke as her eyes remained fixed on the Great White Shark.
"Show me the skill". She repeated on noticing Heareth’s confusion.
"Ok". Queen Heareth turned around to face Strong but on the Veiled Healer’s demand, she turned back to face her.
She looked ahead and concentrated in a way that she’s never done in her life, she fought hard to suppress her nervousness at this moment as she carefully activated this skill as a gentle white light erupted in her body.
Under her control, this gentle light slowly diffused from her body before making contact with the massive Starfish. The Veiled Healer dropped all her defenses and resistances to feel the effects of the skill.
Once the light touched her, the Starfish’s eyes closed as it felt like an electric current just went through her body. The current soon switched to the feeling of a warm embrace as the Starfish’s limbs started folding extremely slowly.
The Veiled Healer experienced a pleasant feeling that she had not experienced before as her Starfish body turned red with her eyes turning half-closed.
This continued for a few seconds before she stopped the effects. Without a change in her expression, she looked at Queen Heareth and asked her next question. "What is your creed as a healer".
"My creed is to always try my best to save the lives of my clients no matter how hopeless their situation is, it saves lives and also serves as the perfect stimuli for me to increase my healing skills".
"What is your image of an ideal healer".
"My ideal healer is a healer who kills and saves lives for a reason. They don’t just kill for the sake of it, and they have a reason for saving lives too which is good since it serves as the perfect motivation for growth".
"Without a reason to save a life, in my opinion, it is impossible to improve".
"Have you ever killed?"
"Yes..." Queen Heareth hesitated slightly but on feeling the Starfish’s steady gaze, she continued. "I killed a lot when I was younger until I got my magic domain, and after that was when I started killing for specific reasons".
"I kill to survive through the nutrients and energy derived from them".
The legendary Veiled Healer kept on asking questions and Queen Heareth kept on answering. The question-and-answer session became so heated that Queen Heareth was already so engrossed that she answered instinctively.
She didn’t have to think before answering anymore, and through this clever maneuver from the Red tier healer, she was able to access the deepest parts of Queen Heareth’s heart.
A quote said tell me your friends, I will tell you who you are. In the magic healer term though, show me your heart, and I will know if you are a real healer.
The session continued for so long that Sebastian and the others became bored. It continued for 2 good hours before it finally came to an end.
What the legendary Veiled Healer said next shocked them all.
"Congratulations Heareth, you passed".
"You’re now my newest student!"
"Huh?" Queen Heareth was the one who was shocked the most.
Before coming to the Dungeon of Souls, she had to spend minutes preparing her mind for the test. She wanted to be at her peak as she expected to be tested by how much she could heal and the efficacy of her healing.
She expected to see a hundred dying beasts lying before her, and she was tasked to heal them all in 10 minutes but none of them happened.
In the end, all that happened was some random questioning and it was over, she was in disbelief and she did not try to hide it.
The Veiled Healer laughed for the first time. "Are you shocked?"
"A healer’s ability to heal is extremely important, but you don’t need to perform healing on a dying beast for me to know your competence. I am a master of healing; I can know your competence through your answers to my questions".
"Unlike other magic domains, only the intelligent can go far with healing, you need to know a lot of things and details to excel with a healing magic domain".
"And I have to say that I am impressed by your answers".
"Even if my judgment is wrong and your real healing competency is trash, it doesn’t matter, I can teach you real healing, what cannot be taught is the personal approach to healing since every healer has a different approach".
"I can see that you’ve found your approach, and that’s why you qualified".
"Ask around and meet Tamara, she’ll show you around". After saying that, the Veiled Healer turned to face Trinidad. "Thanks for bringing me such a promising student, I owe you one for this".
Now, even Trinidad was flabbergasted.
After the Veiled Healer left, an excited Sebastian and Strong conveyed their congratulations to the Queen before encouraging her to try her best here.
Just a few minutes later, Tamara, a swordfish came to show Queen Heareth around which left Sebastian and Strong no choice but to leave.
They finally bade their farewell to the Queen and left.
As she turned to go into the deeper parts of the Veiled Healer’s home, Queen Heareth gritted her teeth in determination. "I’ll definitely succeed!"
