Chapter 30: The Sannin and the Shopkeeper

The morning rush at the Uchiha Cafe was at its peak.

The line for Shinobi Lunch Boxes stretched out the door, and the Diamond Lounge was packed with stressed bureaucrats drinking heavily marked-up tea. Behind the counter, Ren was back in his crisp white apron, methodically ringing up transactions and sliding exact change across the polished wood.

Then, the front door opened.

There was no shouting. No explosive entrance. But the ambient noise in the cafe instantly died.

A suffocating, physically crushing wave of pure killing intent washed over the room. Genin froze mid-bite. Wealthy merchants dropped their porcelain cups, the ceramic shattering loudly against the floorboards. The air itself felt like it had turned to lead.

Tsunade Senju walked through the door.

She wasn’t wearing her usual green haori. She wore the standard, practical gray uniform of the hospital’s trauma ward. Her blonde hair was tied back, and her face was completely devoid of the drunken, grief-stricken mess she had been for the last week. She was entirely sober, terrifyingly focused, and radiating the lethal presence of a legendary Sannin.

She didn’t say a word. She just looked at the crowd.

The customers didn’t need to be told. The Genin scrambled out the back door. The nobles abandoned their expensive teas and practically shoved each other out the front entrance to escape the killing intent.

In less than ten seconds, the cafe was entirely empty.

Ren didn’t run. He stood calmly behind the counter, holding a clean rag. In the back kitchen, he could hear Kenji reach for a cleaver, but Ren tapped the wall twice—their signal to stand down and stay out of sight.

Tsunade walked up to the counter. She reached into her pocket and slammed a pristine white porcelain tea cup onto the hardwood.

It was the branded cup Ren had left in the stasis room.

"Welcome to the Uchiha Cafe," Ren said, offering his standard, practiced barista smile. "What can I get for you, Tsunade-sama? The Jade Lotus tea is highly recommended for—"

Tsunade pressed her index finger against the hardwood counter.

Crack.

A deep, jagged fissure instantly shot through the thick oak, splitting the wood in half directly between them.

"Drop the act, kid," Tsunade said, her voice a low, dangerous rasp. "I just spent the last six hours running every diagnostic scan known to medical science on my brother. His tissue is brand new. The cellular regeneration rate was completely unnatural. Sealing tags don’t do that. So I’m going to ask you once. What did you feed him?"

Ren looked at the cracked counter, then looked up at the Sannin.

He dropped the barista smile. His posture shifted, his shoulders squaring as the twelve-year-old boy vanished, replaced entirely by the cold, calculating CEO.

"A highly condensed, biologically perfect medical artifact," Ren answered flatly. "A one-time-use consumable. It instantly regenerates missing tissues, organs, and vascular structures required for baseline survival."

Tsunade’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "Where did you get it?"

"Proprietary supply chain," Ren replied without missing a beat. "And no, I don’t have any more. It was a singular asset, and I burned it to jumpstart his heart."

Tsunade stared at him, trying to detect a lie. She found none. The boy was completely calm, looking a legendary war veteran dead in the eyes without a drop of sweat on his brow.

"You broke into an S-rank facility," Tsunade stated, leaning closer, her shadow falling over him. "You bypassed elite guards, shattered a reinforced vault door, and tampered with a highly classified patient. Do you have any idea how many treason laws you broke last night?"

"You could," Ren agreed, not backing down. "But you won’t. Because despite the trespassing, I just handed you the only thing in this village you actually care about."

Tsunade didn’t blink. "You left a branded tea cup next to an assassination target. You wanted to be caught. You wanted me to know it was you. Why?"

"Because an anonymous miracle yields zero return on investment," Ren said bluntly.

Tsunade let out a sharp, humorless laugh. "So it’s about money. Fine. The Senju clan vaults are deep. Name your price. Ten million ryo? Twenty?"

"I don’t want your money," Ren completely dismissed the offer. "I want your leverage."

Tsunade stopped laughing. She looked at the boy with genuine, intense suspicion. "Explain."

Ren leaned forward, resting his hands on the cracked counter.

"My business is expanding rapidly, Tsunade-sama. And in Konoha, rapid wealth attracts parasites," Ren said, his voice cold and analytical. "It attracts corrupt administration clerks, greedy merchant guilds, and eventually, it will attract Lord Danzo. I need a political umbrella that makes my supply lines and my storefront completely untouchable."

He reached beneath the counter, pulled out a thick, pre-written contract, and slid it across the wood.

"I want the exclusive logistics contract for Konoha Hospital," Ren stated. "I supply the rations, the basic medical herbs, and the dietary supplements. In exchange, you give my upcoming product lines your official medical endorsement. If anyone from Root or the Hokage’s office tries to audit me, tax me, or intimidate my workers, you personally handle them."

Tsunade looked down at the contract.

It wasn’t a plea for protection. It was a hostile corporate takeover of the hospital’s supply chain, leveraged against an unpayable, life-altering debt. The sheer audacity of it was staggering.

"You want me to be your personal bodyguard and brand ambassador," Tsunade said, her voice dropping dangerously low.

"I want a mutually beneficial partnership," Ren corrected. "Nawaki still needs months of physical rehabilitation. With my logistics backing your hospital, you won’t have to worry about supply shortages while you nurse him back to health."

Tsunade stood in silence for a long time.

She looked at the contract, then up at the thirteen-year-old Uchiha. He had played her. He had played the hospital, the guards, and the entire political system of the village. He was utterly ruthless.

But as she remembered the sound of Nawaki’s steady heartbeat... she knew she didn’t care.

Tsunade picked up a pen from the counter. She aggressively signed her name on the bottom line of the contract, the sheer force of her handwriting tearing the parchment slightly.

She tossed the pen aside and grabbed the branded porcelain cup off the counter.

"Pour me some tea," Tsunade ordered.

Ren seamlessly picked up a steaming pot of Jade Lotus Nectar and filled her cup.

Tsunade downed the boiling hot, intensely caffeinated tea in a single, rough gulp. She slammed the empty cup back down on the counter.

"I’ll back your supply lines, kid," Tsunade said, turning toward the door. She paused, glancing over her shoulder, her green eyes piercing right through him. "But watch your back. If you keep playing the board like this, you dead body may end up in a sewer."

Tsunade pushed the door open and walked out into the morning sun.

Ren watched her go. He picked up the signed contract, perfectly drying the ink, and slipped it into his ledger.
