Chapter 29: The Midnight Miracle

The blinding golden light vanished as fast as it had erupted.

Ren dropped his arm and blinked the spots from his vision. On the steel medical bed, the chaotic spray of blood had completely stopped.

The Senzu fragment didn’t waste time on flashy, slow-paced healing. It was a blunt, aggressive biological rewrite. The shattered ribs snapped back into place with loud, wet cracks. The pulverized organs regenerated instantly. The massive, gaping cavity in Nawaki’s chest sealed itself shut, leaving behind smooth, unblemished pale skin.

Nawaki’s spine arched slightly as his mouth opened, pulling in a massive, desperate lungful of air.

The piercing, continuous shriek of the flatlining heart monitor abruptly cut off.

It was replaced by a steady, strong beep.

Ren stood over the bed, wiping a stray drop of blood off his white apron. He looked down at the patient. Nawaki was unconscious, severely emaciated from thirteen years of muscle atrophy, and looking incredibly fragile. But his chest was rising and falling with natural, unaided breaths.

The fifty thousand Business Capital had worked. The boy was alive.

BANG.

The heavy vault door shuddered violently behind Ren.

"The stasis matrix is gone! Break the door!" a panicked voice shouted from the hallway.

Ren glanced over his shoulder. He had shattered the internal locking mechanism when he forced his way in. The door was jammed shut, but it wouldn’t hold against shinobi for long. He could already hear multiple sets of heavy footsteps thundering down the stairwell.

The shock of the moment was over. Ren’s cold, calculating instincts immediately took over.

Saving the Senju heir anonymously was a terrible business strategy. If he vanished without a trace, the hospital staff would credit the recovery to a delayed reaction from the Uzumaki seal or a random medical anomaly. Tsunade needed to know exactly who owned this miracle.

Ren reached into his satchel. He pulled out a pristine, white porcelain tea cup. Stamped flawlessly on the side in stark black ink was the Uchiha Cafe logo.

He stepped up to the bed and placed the branded cup directly on the silver medical tray, right next to Nawaki’s resting hand. It was the ultimate corporate calling card.

CRACK.

The steel hinges of the vault door began to buckle.

Ren looked up. Near the ceiling, ten feet off the ground, was an iron ventilation grate. He didn’t hesitate. Channeling his Muscle-Density Support into his legs, he jumped, his fingers catching the iron slats. He braced his boots against the wall and pulled with raw, Chunin-level strength. The bolts ripped out of the concrete. He tossed the grate silently into the dark shaft and hauled his body inside.

He crawled backward into the darkness just as the vault door finally gave way.

The heavy steel door blew entirely off its hinges, crashing onto the floorboards with a deafening screech.

Tsunade Senju burst into the room.

She looked frantic, her hands already glowing with intense green medical chakra. She had felt the stasis seal shatter from the lobby. She fully expected to walk into a slaughterhouse and find her brother bleeding out on the floor. Two ANBU guards and a terrified medical clerk rushed in right behind her.

"Nawaki!" Tsunade shouted, sprinting to the bed.

She slammed her glowing green hands onto the boy’s chest to stop the bleeding she assumed was there.

She froze.

The green chakra illuminated her face, highlighting her sudden, total confusion. Underneath her hands, she didn’t feel shattered bone or wet blood.

She felt a strong, steady heartbeat.

"T-Tsunade-sama?" the medical clerk stammered from the doorway, terrified by her sudden silence. "Is he...?"

Tsunade slowly retracted her hands. Her entire body began to tremble. She stared at Nawaki’s perfectly smooth chest. She pressed two fingers against his neck, feeling the strong, undeniable pulse.

The adrenaline crashed out of her system all at once. Her legs gave out, and she dropped heavily to her knees beside the bed.

"He’s breathing," Tsunade choked out, her voice barely a whisper. She grabbed the edge of the steel mattress, her knuckles turning white. "He’s whole."

The ANBU guards lowered their weapons, staring in absolute disbelief.

Tsunade wiped her face, forcing herself to breathe. The paralyzing shock began to recede, rapidly replaced by the sharp, analytical instincts of the greatest medical ninja in the world.

She stood up, her sharp eyes scanning the room.

Sealing formulas couldn’t generate new organs. They couldn’t reverse massive tissue damage in three seconds. Someone had been in this room. Someone had bypassed the guards, jammed the door, and performed a medical impossibility.

Tsunade scanned the floor, the walls, and the medical equipment.

Then, she saw it.

Resting perfectly on the silver tray, inches from Nawaki’s hand, was a pristine white tea cup.

Tsunade reached out and picked it up. She rotated the porcelain, her eyes locking onto the crisp, black logo stamped on the side.

Uchiha Cafe.

Tsunade’s eyes narrowed. Her grip tightened on the cup so hard the porcelain creaked. The grief and shock vanished, instantly replaced by a terrifying, dangerous clarity.

Up in the dark ventilation shaft, Ren smiled, turned around, and began the long crawl back to his shop. The trap had perfectly closed.
