Chapter 21: The Secret of the Senju

The Sleep-Efficiency Matrix and Muscle-Density Support fundamentally changed how Ren operated.

Over the next eight months, the Uchiha Tycoon’s cafe evolved from a booming novelty into an unshakeable Konoha institution. As the Third Shinobi War ground into a grueling stalemate, Ren’s perfectly optimized logistics network became the village’s primary source of morale.

Ren turned thirteen during the transition.

He didn’t celebrate with a party. He celebrated by casually lifting a three-hundred-pound crate of raw sugarcane off a delivery cart with one hand, tossing it into his Tier 1 Cold Storage, and relishing the fact that his secretly Chunin-level physical strength was completely hidden beneath a crisp white apron.

With Kenji and Sayuri managing the back kitchen like seasoned commanders, and a slightly older, seven-year-old Itachi ruthlessly analyzing customer data in the front, Ren had settled into a highly profitable, comfortable rhythm.

Until a bleak, rainy Tuesday in late autumn.

The heavy downpour outside kept the casual foot traffic low. Ren was in the VIP Recovery Lounge, slowly wiping down a polished hardwood table with his Tier 1 Sanitation Seal gently active on his palm.

Sitting a few feet away were two senior Jonin. One wore the standard Konoha uniform, but the other had the distinct, forest-green trim of the Senju clan retainers.

They were drinking hot matcha, assuming the thirteen-year-old boy wiping tables nearby wasn’t paying attention. But Ren’s perfectly smoothed chakra coils had subtly enhanced his hearing, and their hushed, heavy tones drifted perfectly to his ears.

"Have you heard the news?" the Konoha Jonin sighed quietly, staring into his cup.

"Yeah," the Senju retainer muttered bitterly, leaning forward. "They are finally going to let him go."

"Poor Nawaki-sama," the Jonin whispered, shaking his head. "To be kept in that condition for over decade... it’s just cruel."

Ren froze. The rag stopped moving across the wood.

His encyclopedic knowledge of the timeline violently shifted and recalculated.

Nawaki? Ren thought, his eyes widening. Didn’t he die? He stepped on an explosive tag during the Second Shinobi War. That was before I was even born!

"Elder Mito made the decision yesterday," the retainer continued, his voice dropping to a barely audible whisper. "Tsunade-sama is completely spiraling. She tore up a tavern in the red-light district last night. But Mito-sama is firm. She says we’re only making it worse."

Ren didn’t wait to hear the rest.

He smoothly stood up, masking his shock behind a calm barista smile, and walked directly into the back kitchen. The heavy swinging doors closed behind him, muting the chatter of the cafe.

Kenji was rapidly dicing a massive pile of carrots with his one good hand, the blade moving in an absolute blur. Sayuri was packing bentos at the wrapping station, her cane resting against the counter.

"Kenji. Sayuri," Ren said, his voice entirely devoid of its usual playful tone. "What the hell is going on with the Senju clan? Who is Nawaki?"

Kenji’s knife stopped mid-chop. He stiffened, glancing nervously at the swinging doors.

He let out a heavy, tired sigh. "Well, it’s natural that you don’t know about it, Boss. You were born right after the Second War ended. It’s a taboo topic. An S-rank village secret. Nobody talks about it."

"Hey, quit keeping him in suspense," Sayuri interrupted, not looking up from her rice-packing. "You’re going to know sooner or later anyway. The whole village is going to be mourning once Lady Mito’s decision goes public."

Ren walked over to the prep table, crossing his arms. "Explain. Now."

Sayuri paused, wiping her hands on her apron. "Nawaki Senju—the First Hokage’s grandson—was blown to pieces by an explosive tag thirteen years ago. And he was. His internal organs were completely destroyed."

She looked at Ren, her eyes dark.

"But he didn’t die instantly due to Senju vitality. Lady Tsunade got to him before his heart fully stopped. She couldn’t accept it. She used a forbidden Uzumaki stasis seal on him right there on the battlefield. She froze his body in time, locking him in a suspended coma on the exact brink of death."

Ren’s breath hitched. Thirteen years.

"For over a decade," Sayuri continued softly, "Tsunade-sama has been trying to find a way to save him. She pushed medical ninjutsu further than anyone in history, trying to figure out a way to regrow missing organs. But you can’t create life from nothing. And Elder Mito... she finally stepped in."

Kenji nodded grimly. "Mito-sama said it was torture. Keeping the boy suspended like a fractured shell for over a decade while Tsunade-sama drives herself insane trying to fix the unfixable. Mito-sama gave Tsunade-sama an ultimatum today. In exactly six months, on the first day of spring, Mito-sama is going to manually deactivate the stasis seal. Nawaki-sama will finally be allowed to pass on."

Ren stood perfectly still.

The pieces clicked together perfectly. That’s why Tsunade’s hemophobia is so severe. Every time she looks at blood, she sees the brother she has been trying and failing to piece back together for over a decade.

"Thanks for the update," Ren muttered, turning on his heel.

He walked straight into his private back office, closed the heavy wooden door, and locked it.

He leaned back against the wall, his mind spinning with terrifying, hyper-opportunistic calculus.

Nawaki Senju is alive.

If Nawaki died in six months, Tsunade would completely break. The greatest medical ninja in the world would abandon Konoha right in the middle of a brutal war. The Senju clan would officially lose its last male heir, fading into total obscurity.

But... what if someone fixed him?

The debt would be incalculable. If Ren pulled the Senju heir back from the absolute brink of death, Tsunade—the legendary Princess of Konoha—would owe him her unconditional loyalty. The Senju clan would be permanently indebted to a disgraced Uchiha. The political protection it would offer his business empire would make him functionally untouchable by Danzo, the Hokage, or his own father.

It was the ultimate, world-altering investment.

"System," Ren commanded, his voice tight and intensely focused. "Open the Tier 4 restricted catalog. Filter by: Biological Restoration."

The blue holographic screen flared to life in the dark office. It bypassed the cheap recipes and basic storage seals, opening a high-tier shop interface that Ren usually ignored because the items were strictly endgame.

The screen scrolled past advanced Kekkei Genkai templates and forbidden jutsu scrolls, landing on the medical section.

Ren’s eyes immediately locked onto a single, glowing golden icon.

[ITEM: Senzu Bean (Fragment)]

[Description: A highly condensed, biologically perfect medical anomaly. Consuming this fragment will instantly regenerate all missing tissues, organs, and chakra pathways. Restores the target to peak physical condition.]

Ren stared at the description. It was perfect. It was the exact, impossible miracle required to put the gutted Senju heir back together. Tsunade’s thirteen years of research couldn’t do it, but the Tycoon System could.

He scrolled down to look at the price tag.

His heart dropped completely into his stomach.

[Cost: 50,000 BC]

Ren stared at the glowing blue numbers, absolutely paralyzed.

Fifty thousand Business Capital.

The system conversion rate was strictly ten-to-one. To earn 50,000 BC, he needed to generate exactly 500,000 Ryo in clean, net profit.

He had spent the last eight months working tirelessly, revolutionizing the village’s logistics, crushing his competitors, and dominating the civilian market. His current, incredibly healthy savings sat at roughly 6,000 BC.

He needed fifty thousand. And he had exactly six months before Mito Uzumaki pulled the plug and let Nawaki die.

Ren slumped into his desk chair, burying his hands in his dark hair as the sheer, crushing magnitude of the math set in. It was a staggering amount of money. If he just kept selling standard bentos and boba tea to exhausted Genin, it would take him three years to hit that threshold.

He looked up at the blue screen, the golden glow of the Senzu Bean fragment reflecting in his dark eyes.

A cold, ruthless clarity washed over him. The comfortable, steady rhythm of the past eight months shattered.

Legal, casual retail won’t cut it anymore, Ren realized, his jaw tightening. I can’t just be the friendly neighborhood barista. If I want to buy the Senju clan, I have to monopolize the entire market.

He grabbed his ledger, dipping his brush in ink with a newfound, terrifying intensity.

Six months. Five hundred thousand Ryo.
