Chapter 377: The Spider Queen’s Ability (2)
Chapter 375
The razor-thin strands rocketed towards the werewolf, and all he could do was watch in horror.
Nobody was fast enough to move in time to stop the attack.
Only one person.
Blood trickled down her nose from using her ability for far too long.
But the situation demanded it.
Chloe swung her hands forward, and with her ability activating just in time, she managed to redirect the trajectory of the strands to the side—away from Bruce.
She couldn’t seize complete control of them because they were travelling at a speed she couldn’t fully counter.
Bruce was safe, for the meantime, as the strands smashed through the ground and left behind countless tiny holes.
It was as though bullets had torn straight through the marble floor.
Spinning around and launching himself far away in time, Bruce landed several metres from the Spider Queen.
And it wasn’t only him.
The others slowly backed away as they watched the beast’s mandibles clicking together with such force that it almost seemed like it was getting excited.
"The hell? How did we forget that it was a spider?" Felix shouted in panic as he watched the Queen gazing down at them.
Indeed, they had forgotten that even though it was a beast, it still possessed all the natural traits of a spider.
Aside from her mind-controlling ability, which seemed to work only in her human form, she should have been able to shoot webs too.
After all...
She was the Spider Queen.
Since she hadn’t done that for...
How long had they been fighting now?
... Yeah. Five minutes.
Since she hadn’t used such an ability throughout that entire period, they had simply forgotten about it.
And it seemed like she had done it deliberately to lower their guard.
It worked.
Bruce would have been dead if it wasn’t for Chloe’s timely intervention.
Things had just become even deadlier for them, and they all knew it.
If something didn’t change soon, they would—
"Ack...."
Bruce suddenly groaned in pain, and under everybody’s confused expressions, he collapsed to his knees.
Slowly, his form began reverting back to normal.
"The hell?! Why are you reverting now that the situation is even more critical?!" Felix shouted in panic.
"...."
But then he calmed down after recalling that he was also a werewolf.
’Right. A full transformation takes a huge chunk of energy from a werewolf. And for his ra—wait. What rank is he even? Even I can’t fully transform yet. I’m not strong enough to do so.’
«What is going on? How are you reverting back after only five minutes?» Ray shouted from inside the mindspace in panic.
Bruce rose from the chair, leaving the body lifeless.
Turning around, he towered above the boy with a devilish grin on his face.
"I still have about three minutes left on my transformation, but nope. I’m not fighting anymore."
Ray’s brows knitted together in confusion.
"What? What do you mean you aren’t fighting anymore? Didn’t you promise to come out whenever I called?"
"And didn’t I come out? I did, yeah? Right, Elyon?" Bruce turned towards the celestial.
Elyon nodded.
"Good. I upheld my promise. Or did I promise to stay till the end?" Bruce asked with a chilling smirk.
Elyon sighed inwardly.
’I should have known he was planning something stupid when he didn’t object the moment Ray ordered him to take the seat. Damn.’
Ray stared at Bruce for several seconds—he was lost on what to say as he watched the werewolf walking away, seemingly uninterested in the fight altogether.
"Hurry and take control before your friends die."
Quickly looking at the screen, Ray gnashed his teeth furiously.
"I will deal with you after all this is done," he said before hurrying towards the chair.
Bruce only chuckled deeply.
"That is if you survive this. See you in the afterlife, kid."
Ray took control of the chair immediately, and just in time.
His eyes reverted to their previous colour.
He was about to stand up when a wave of pain slammed into him with crushing force.
"Ack... fuck!"
"...."
The chamber was deathly silent for several seconds, causing Ray to dread the worst.
Quickly lifting his head in fright, he saw his friends staring at him strangely.
Even Nebula had paused and was fixated on him with her numerous eyes.
"Huh?"
He blinked a few times.
Only for Felix to point at the boy with an embarrassed look on his face.
If the situation hadn’t been so dire, he would have been laughing at that moment.
"Yo-you are naked, bruh. Butt naked."
"...?!"
Ray blinked once before looking down at his body, only to realize that his clothes had been shredded and torn in so many places that they couldn’t even cover his body properly.
’Fuck you, Bruce!’
Hurriedly, Ray equipped a new uniform from his inventory.
Then, slowly, he stood upright as the last piece of fabric settled over his body.
The sound of cables groaning and swaying echoed through the chamber, causing Nebula’s eyes to snap upward.
"...."
She could see one of the cocoons she had carefully placed on the ceiling floating away.
And not only that.
More than half of her cocoons were gone.
Looking back, she caught sight of Chloe stretching out her hands and guiding another cocoon towards her position, where the rest of the rescued cocoons had already been gathered.
"...."
There was a moment of silence as Nebula took the time to process what she was seeing.
And when she was done, fury washed over her immediately.
"HOW DARE YOU TAKE MY MEALS! AAAAAAAH!"
The voice resounded through all their minds, especially Chloe’s.
The girl’s hands trembled in response, causing her to lose focus and allowing one of the cocoons to crash onto the ground with a loud thud.
Before anybody could even blink, Nebula moved with furious speed.
Ray slowly turned his head to catch sight of her rushing towards Chloe.
Lightning arced around the soles of his feet.
[Thunder Step Activated]
With an explosive bang, he darted forward—closing the distance in a flash.
Grabbing Chloe and swinging her behind him, Ray lifted his hands into the air.
A bone tower shield appeared in his hand at the very last moment.
Just as Nebula’s colossal leg descended like the sword of a wrathful god.
BAM! BOOOOM!
