Chapter 367: Awake
Chapter 365
’This will be harder soon. Next wave will attack at any moment.’
And Ray was right with that observation as the minutes trickled by.
More and more spiders were losing their lives to the cohort’s prowess.
The chamber was being littered with hundreds and hundreds of bodies, which were beginning to pile up.
At this point, Ray was using anything as a weapon—tapping into his werewolf side, he was becoming more erratic.
Smashing their heads into the ground with the bodies of their comrades, he could also pull the scythes out of their bodies.
And use them to tear through the chitin of the others.
With his ’Weapon Mastery’ perk, he was literally able to wield anything he laid his hands on.
It would seem as though he had trained in using them for years.
It came almost instinctively, but unfortunately, there was a limitation with the said perk.
Ray only had a fifteen percent mastery over all weapons.
It didn’t mean that he was suddenly a prodigy in using all weapons; the remaining percentage was left to him.
Which was what he was doing on the battlefield.
Using whatever he could get as a weapon, he was delving into the arts of combat.
Though he was more in tune with a spear and sword, he was willing to learn more.
Hence, he began switching between a hammer, a shield, and the scythes from the spiders’ bodies.
This turned him into a literal killing machine.
A boy who could barely keep up with Kai and Trisha during training.
A boy who could barely fight Awakened-rank beasts of equal rank.
A boy who lost everything to the Aberrants was now forging his path and strength on a battlefield.
Turning a battle into a training ground for himself.
A boy who now far surpassed his other cohorts, almost leaving them in the dust.
"Aaaaaah!" Ray let out a battle cry as he grabbed a spider by the belly and lifted it above his head.
His eyes crackled with lightning as he hurled the body away.
The spider went flying and then slammed into the side of another spider that was sneaking up on Chloe from behind.
The two went flying at the same time.
And even with that, the girl hadn’t noticed, as she was solely focused on helping the others to the best of her abilities.
Kai was still moving as fast as he always was, but if one paid closer attention, he seemed a tad slower and was growing weary.
Unlike Ray, who was basically leveling up and growing on the battlefield, the others were still human.
.... Well, except Felix.
Speaking of the werewolf, he could be seen crouching down on all fours.
Legs shifted into massive trunks of feet—fur covering his legs and arms.
His claws dug into the ground, crumbling the marble flooring under his grip.
A dozen spiders could be seen clicking their limbs a metre away from him.
"Awhooooo!"
Booom—!
Felix exploded in a fiercely powerful lunge—closing the distance between himself and the spiders in a few seconds.
His claws flashed in front of their faces.
Grabbing one by the head, he bashed the beast into the ground with all his might.
Chunks of marble and dust were blasted into the air from the impact.
Still holding onto the head of the beast, Felix pulled it up and hurled it into another.
Before it could even go flying away, he grabbed hold of its scythes and yanked them out with brutal force.
The moment he laid his hands on the weapons, Felix became an absolute menace.
Delving into the beasts, he slashed and sliced with savage precision.
Unlike Ray, who was trying to be elegant and master the ropes of using the scythes, Felix was basically swinging them around like a pair of nunchucks.
And it worked, destroying the beasts with every brutal swing he unleashed—and it was all thanks to his overwhelming brute strength.
Trisha, on the other hand, flowed in between the beasts in such a beautiful way that it almost seemed like she was trying to enchant the spiders.
Her ice sword had now changed colour from a pale blue to black.
Before the beasts could reach her, with the help of Chloe’s telekinetic ability, she would launch into the air and rocket forward, severing their tendons and limbs with frightening precision.
She was swift and efficient, displaying such beautiful swordsmanship that the beasts never saw her attacks coming.
Within ten minutes, more than three hundred Advanced-rank beasts had lost their lives to the teens.
Their coordinated assault had gradually turned the battlefield into a graveyard, with spider corpses piling higher and higher across the chamber.
Nebula felt something stirring in her heart as she watched her children fall to the bunch of humans.
Her numerous eyes trembled with so much fury that it seemed as though they would burst from their sockets.
And then they did.
"Aaaaaah! Stop! Stop! STOP KILLING MY CHILDREN!"
Her shriek echoed into the humans’ ears, cutting off their concentration for half a second.
The entire chamber seemed to vibrate from the force of her scream.
All except Ray, who pushed the voice out of his mind and instead decided to intensify his rampage.
"You both! Wake up! Your friends are killing me! VAN! CASTER! COME SAVE ME; THEY ARE KILLING ME! WAKE THE FUCK UP!"
Ray immediately halted his steps on hearing Nebula’s words.
Since she didn’t possess a human mouth, she was making use of telepathic transmission.
Whether she couldn’t control who she transmitted it to or not, Ray didn’t know and honestly didn’t care.
All that mattered was that he had heard her words.
But what confused him most was why she was calling out to his friends instead of sending out the King-rank beasts.
Even so, he lifted his sword and pointed it at the Spider Queen with a frown on his face.
"Stop that. They aren’t—"
"AAAAAAAH! IT HURTS!" Nebula cried out with so much force that, for a moment, the chamber fell silent.
Pin-drop silence.
And then,
Caster’s eyes were the first to snap wide open.
"I summon you; Dark Wolf."
Ray stiffened as he turned around to see a cloud of black smoke appearing directly beside the tied-up duo, and within a second, a wolf materialized with a loud, ferocious howl.
The beast landed with a heavy thud, baring its fangs the instant it emerged.
’No!’
Van’s eyes were the next to snap open, and his brain moved before his limbs had the opportunity to wake up.
He had already connected with his spiders, which were beginning to activate swiftly, forming a suit around his arms.
The metallic legs clicked rapidly against one another as the armour took shape.
’Damn it!’
