Chapter 354: Journal of the Past (1)

Chapter 352

Walking into the cave, they were hit by a pungent, damp smell that almost made them nauseous.

Even Ray’s sensitive nose was triggered immediately, as he was the first to get hit before any other person could react.

Quickly covering his nose, he bore through the smell, and they fully walked into the cave, which was barely wide enough to accommodate them all.

There was barely any space to move properly, but they were still able to stand inside the cramped space.

It was supposed to be dimly lit, but thanks to the light pouring in from outside, the others were now able to see what sort of place they had walked into.

On the ground were bones... human bones with a few pieces of decayed matter on them.

Squinting harder, Ray could see that the residue was actually human flesh.

His gaze sharpened immediately.

"Looks like the cave really exists," Kai muttered as he caught sight of a fireplace in one corner.

He scanned the place and saw seven stone seats fitted around the fireplace.

’Seven?’ Ray lifted a brow.

The group immediately scattered around the cave to survey it properly.

Trisha crouched down in front of the human remains.

She touched a piece, then dropped it.

She smeared her fingers together with a calm gaze.

’It’s dry. That means this person must have been killed a long time ago. Possibly a month and a half. Did a red gate really appear on another world in this timeline?’

Ray looked at the stones around the fireplace, and his mind began conjuring images of what must have happened.

Seven people sitting around the fireplace, chatting, eating, keeping warm, and planning their next move on how to enter the Obsidian Spire.

Walking towards the fireplace, which was made of stones arranged around a dug-out patch of ground, he noticed soot still clinging heavily to the rocks.

Crouching down, Ray grazed the soot on a stone before looking around at the seven seats.

He lifted his head to count the number of people currently in the cave.

"Seven.... Plus Nebula, eight," he muttered silently.

"Ray, check this out," Van called out as he stood in front of a wall.

Ray hurried over and stood beside his best friend to take a look at what he was seeing.

"Uh... guys?" the Tribrid called out, and almost immediately, the others walked over.

They stood in front of the wall to see words crudely etched into the rock face.

"Over there too," Felix pointed out to another wall that was covered in dense handwriting.

"Are these the journals Nebula spoke of?" Trisha asked with a raised brow.

"Scatter out and find the beginning," Caster shouted, and immediately, the group dispersed.

Ray didn’t budge an inch, though, as his eyes were able to take in every corner of the cave without needing to move.

He also spotted a drawn-out, detailed map of the world which spanned the entire southern wall.

He could see the Hill Valley drawn out with much detail as a land filled with hills and surrounded by a large body of water.

After the sea, when one crossed it, they would finally get to Bone Ridge: a land filled entirely with bones and skeletons.

Then five kilometers away was where they were at the moment.

A land filled with jagged mountains; Hollow Mountains.

In fact, the name he had given all these landscapes was the same the previous victims actually called them.

Twenty meters away from the land of mountains with no single mountain in sight but a deserted area, a lone spire stood in place.

Ray looked at the map for a while longer when his name was called.

"I think this is the beginning," Chloe uttered as she stood in front of an area.

Ray and the others rushed over and stood behind her to take a look at it.

{Date? Well, we have no idea what the date is at the moment. We just know that it’s been a while we have been on this Forgotten Lands.

It feels like ages since when we got sucked into this world from the beast Planet we were living comfortably on. Civilians forced to become fighters in this harsh environment.}

It stopped there and they all naturally turned their gaze to the supposed next part.

{... Though some of us have abilities, we never wanted to be fighters but here we are. Anyway, this is me writing this down.

The others have decided that in two weeks, we would attempt that Spire to see if there’s an escape route there. It looks enthralling though. I hope it doesn’t eat us. Hahaha}

They all paused for a moment as Ray looked back at the human bones he had just seen.

Then he caught a glimpse of Nebula.

It seemed like the girl was also intrigued and reading along with them.

Shaking his head, he watched as the others went to the next part.

Due to how rough and uneven the walls were, the journals were not in one place.

Only a few were there because the writer needed to find a smooth place to write, and from the looks of it, it seemed like the writer used a piece of charcoal to put down what he had witnessed.

{Okay. A week left before we go check out what that Spire is all about. I don’t know why I’m writing all these down, the others think I’m crazy. Anyway.... Let me journal all we have experienced in this place so far.}

Their gazes darted to the next part instinctively.

{Okay. So first off; fifty of us were pulled into this world by the gate which randomly appeared in the middle of the street. It was just like a normal day like every other day until it wasn’t. It appeared out of the blue.

A crimson glowing gate and the moment it was done with what it came to do, I suppose it vanished though since help hasn’t arrived.}

The next part again.

{... Fifty of us landed in the Hill Valley area together and after trying our hardest to survive as long as we could, we ended up losing ten members before we decided that we would leave that region and escape since it was filled with powerful beasts beyond our capabilities. But little did we know the main horrors lay beyond Hill Valley.}
