And just like that, the next day arrived with the whole squad getting ready to go explore the cave Nebula had said she found.

They had begun the day by freshening up with the use of the Infinite Spring bottle.

And just like that, for the first time in weeks, the group had a proper wash that made their bodies feel refreshed and clean.

Eating the last remaining meat they had left in stock, Ray observed each and every one of the people in the cave with him.

His eyes didn’t leave anybody.

For the first time in a while, Ray watched his best friend leave his side and stay near Nebula.

Even with this, he didn’t fret nor make a scene.

He just remained utterly calm with a small smirk playing secretly on his lips as his mind ran all sorts of calculations.

This didn’t go unnoticed by Kai, who turned to look at Ray.

But seeing that his friend didn’t react, he calmed down to observe the whole situation too.

Trisha kept glaring at Chloe, who was now totally all over Nebula.

She kept calling the girl’s name almost every minute like an obsessed fan with a pop star.

They were done with their breakfast, and they instantly exited the cavern with Felix rolling a boulder over the entrance to better hide their shelter.

Whether they would come back to it or not, they had no idea.

But it was better to keep it sealed so just in case they did return, they wouldn’t find a group of wolves nestling there.

With that, they set off, hoping to reach the location in time before it got dark.

Out front, Nebula could be seen with Felix, Caster, Chloe, and Van swarming over her and trying to get a conversation from her.

Trisha and Kai felt somewhat uneasy as they slowed down their pacing to match Ray’s.

"Hey bro, I feel somewhat uneasy all of a sudden. What’s going on with the others today?" Kai silently questioned.

Ray didn’t give a reply as he tucked his hands in his pockets while looking back at Kai, who was still glancing at the others out front.

Then he looked at Trisha again.

Although her face seemed like she couldn’t care less, he could now see beyond that facade.

She seemed worried for some reason.

’I guess weeks of being with her and conversing more with her has allowed me the ability to finally be able to read her. Even if it’s a little.’

Ray shrugged and continued walking while not offering his friend any more conversation.

Up ahead, Van could be seen slowing down until he finally matched Ray’s pacing.

"You good?" The Tribrid calmly questioned with a small smile on his face as his best friend looked at him then blinked a few times.

"Of course I am. Why wouldn’t I be?" Van replied with a warm smile as he rubbed the back of his head then began looking ahead.

There was a bit of silence between the duo for a few moments as they traversed the treacherous mountainous terrain, which wasn’t easy for the others.

They had to scale mountains and squeeze themselves in between clusters of rock, slowing down to avoid a few wolves roaming around the place while keeping a brisk pace.

Finally, Ray decided to break the silence.

"Do you remember when we first met?"

Van blinked then nodded with a smile on his face.

"Of course."

Ray lifted his head to look at the misty sky as if reminiscing.

"Man.... It was such a wholesome experience. I had accidentally hit you with my bike when I was practicing riding and then I took you home to get treated. Ha! How old were we again? Uh.... Six?"

"Five bro. We met when we were five," Van replied with a warm smile.

"And boy, were you reckless. I almost got terribly hurt. But thank goodness you stopped on time. From there on, we became great friends."

"Mhm," Ray nodded with a grin on his face.

Then he lightly bumped Van on the shoulder with his own.

"Don’t worry, I will get us out of here safely and won’t let anything happen to you. I promise."

Van nodded.

"I know you will. I’m not worried."

Ray then turned his gaze back to Nebula’s back.

The girl was still conversing with Chloe as they laughed like they were on some girls’ trip.

«Ray.... What was that?» Elyon asked with a confused look on his face.

Closing his eyes, Ray continued walking without a hitch in his movements.

But in reality, his consciousness was back in his mindspace.

He calmly tilted his head to see the celestial standing over him.

Then he looked ahead, into the deepest parts of the space where Bruce sat.

"I will need your help soon, Bruce. Remember the bet? Yeah.... I think I will need your help soon."

Then he turned his gaze back to Elyon.

"Throughout this journey and until we get to the Spire, don’t speak. I have been trying to deflect from having a conversation for a while, hoping you would give up and keep quiet, but you keep talking.

So please, kindly don’t.

I don’t want to keep speaking when I’m back in control. By tomorrow, you will understand every single thing that’s going on. Just wait until then."

Elyon looked at the boy with a dubious stare.

"Trust me," said Ray as he turned back around.

Soon, he regained control of his body to see that they were now approaching Nebula’s cave.

For some reason, they hadn’t encountered a single beast that had even attempted to attack them.

Wolves have an incredible sense of smell and hearing, yet how hadn’t they sensed the group and decided to attack?

Yes, it was daytime and there were barely any beasts roaming around, but still, they should have come across one or two.

"It’s just right ahead, guys," Nebula called out with an excited smile on her face, and everybody quickened their pace.

In just a few moments, they would see if she was telling the truth or not.
