Chapter 56: Kinetic Duel and the Frozen Hear
t
The ambient temperature inside the grand library was an oppressive suffocating heat that threatened to boil the moisture right out of the air.
The Tier Five Syndicate assassin stood amidst the puddles of Beatrice’s melted ice barricade and twirled his glowing curved blades.
The searing fire magic radiating from his weapons scorched the polished marble floor and sent thick plumes of black smoke rolling toward the vaulted ceiling. He viewed the ragged Upper Wing Attendant standing before him as nothing more than a minor nuisance delaying his inevitable victory.
Leon tightened his grip on his ironwood practice sword and slowly exhaled to regulate his internal magical core. His newly acquired Kinetic Barrier hummed to life just beneath the surface of his skin forming a highly pressurized invisible shield that perfectly complimented his dense Mana Skin.
He knew he was facing a seasoned killer who possessed a massive advantage in tactical experience and elemental destructive power but his own physical attributes had reached a monstrous pinnacle.
Having one hundred and fifty five points of Agility meant he no longer perceived the world at a normal human pace.
"I am going to enjoy burning that arrogant smirk off your handsome face," the assassin sneered maliciously before kicking off the marble floor.
The fire mage blurred into a highly coordinated offensive sprint. He crossed the ruined reading room in a fraction of a second and launched a devastating cross slash aimed directly at Leon’s neck.
The twin blades generated a roaring wave of concentrated flames meant to incinerate any defensive guard.
Leon did not activate his Aura Step to retreat because doing so would expose the exhausted Head Maid standing right behind him.
He firmly anchored his leather boots into the scorched stone and swung his ironwood sword upward to intercept the attack.
He heavily infused the wooden weapon with pure kinetic mana turning the basic training tool into an unbreakable bludgeon of raw force.
The collision of kinetic energy and high tier fire magic generated a deafening shockwave that rattled the ancient bookshelves.
The assassin’s eyes widened in profound shock as his enchanted steel blades slammed into the wooden stick and violently halted.
The searing flames washed over Leon’s body but his invisible Kinetic Barrier effortlessly parted the inferno leaving his ragged uniform merely singed around the edges.
"You are surprisingly slow for an assassin," Leon mocked in a deep resonant voice before fluidly pivoting his hips.
He utilized his massive ninety points of Strength to forcefully push the dual blades aside and delivered a punishing front kick directly into the man’s chest.
The assassin was launched backward through the air and crashed heavily through a sturdy oak reading table. He scrambled frantically to his feet coughing up a small mouthful of blood as he realized the servant possessed physical power rivaling a vanguard Knight.
The mercenary gritted his teeth and rapidly channeled his aura preparing to unleash a massive highly volatile vortex of fire designed to consume the entire aisle.
The crystal bell chimed in Leon’s skull projecting a glowing pink text box right amidst the swirling embers.
[Quest Issued: The Superior Element]
[Context: The arrogant fire mage believes his flashy element makes him a god among men. Show him that your sheer physical dominance surpasses his magical tricks while simultaneously seducing the Ice Queen behind you.]
[Objective: Catch one of his blazing blades with your bare hand, look over your shoulder at Beatrice, and tell her you greatly prefer her cold touches over his cheap heat.]
[Reward: +15 Strength, Skill ’Aura Tracking’, 200 Shameless Points.]
[Failure Penalty: The Host will suffer a massive sudden bald spot directly on the top of his head ruining his magnetic handsome appeal for six months.]
Leon read the horrific penalty and instantly decided the mercenary was going to die a very painful death.
He dropped into a low martial stance and waited for the assassin to unleash the fiery vortex.
The Syndicate killer roared in anger and lunged forward whipping his curved blades in a blindingly fast cyclone of lethal heat. He aimed a vicious downward strike meant to cleave Leon’s skull in twain.
Leon utilized his monstrous Agility to slip inside the aggressive guard. He raised his left hand and concentrated his Kinetic Barrier directly into his palm.
He reached right into the roaring flames and violently clamped his bare fingers around the razor sharp glowing steel of the descending blade. The searing heat aggressively hissed against his magical shield but it failed to penetrate his skin.
He held the trapped weapon with an iron grip ensuring the assassin could not pull away.
Leon casually turned his head over his broad shoulder and locked his dark magnetic eyes onto the stunned Head Maid standing a few paces behind him.
"I must admit Lady Beatrice," Leon stated smoothly projecting a charming wicked smile. "I greatly prefer your freezing touches over this man’s incredibly cheap heat."
Beatrice let out a soft breathless gasp as a furious red blush conquered her pale cheeks.
The sheer astronomical audacity of flirting with her while barehandedly holding a blazing magical weapon short circuited her strict aristocratic discipline. Her Lie Detector aura wildly flared with intense blinding romantic heat that heavily conflicted with the lethal danger surrounding them.
[Quest Completed Successfully!]
[Your thick dark hair remains perfectly styled and intact.]
[Distributing Rewards: +15 Strength, Skill ’Aura Tracking’ Acquired, 200 Shameless Points.]
A dense explosive surge of raw muscular power flooded his body elevating his Strength to a massive one hundred and thirty points. The assassin stared at his trapped blade in sheer unadulterated horror as the servant easily held the weapon in place.
Leon turned his predatory gaze back to the mercenary. He channeled his newly enhanced Strength and violently twisted his left wrist.
The enchanted steel blade snapped cleanly in half with a loud sharp crack. Before the assassin could even register the destruction of his weapon Leon drove the blunt tip of his ironwood sword directly into the man’s solar plexus.
The dense kinetic infusion shattered the mercenary’s ribcage and ruptured his internal magical core. The assassin dropped his remaining blade and collapsed lifelessly onto the scorched marble floor.
Leon lowered his wooden sword and took a deep breath to steady his racing heart.
He had just flawlessly executed a high Tier Master using a combination of overwhelming physical stats and raw kinetic barriers. He turned to check on Beatrice but a massive earth shattering explosion suddenly tore through the far end of the grand library.
The heavy reinforced adamantine doors leading to the Patriarch’s private study were violently blown off their massive hinges.
The thick metal slabs flew across the room and crashed into the ancient archives kicking up a blinding cloud of dust and debris.
A suffocating terrifying magical pressure flooded out of the ruined doorway plunging the ambient temperature of the library into a chilling abyssal dread that made Leon’s Danger Intuition scream in frantic agony.
