"That’s not it. I was planning on spending some time alone tonight before going to bed. If it were just you and me watching a movie, Ningning, I could accept that." He looked over at Jiangg Yao. "And if it were just Yaoyao and me, I could accept that too. But I can’t accept both of you together. That’s a love triangle."
"You shouldn’t think of it that way, Young Master. Think of us as two pursuers, not girlfriends. Does that make you feel any better?"
"As pursuers?"

He couldn’t sit still.
"What movie are we watching?" Chen Yuan gulped, finally remembering to ask.
"The lights are off... A horror movie, of course!"
Jiangg Yao’s voice was sharp. She switched on her phone’s flashlight, held it under her chin, and squinted, intentionally trying to scare Chen Yuan.
"I am not watching a horror movie! Where’s the remote? Pause it, pause it now."
"What’s wrong?"
"Horror movies are so boring. I don’t like watching them."
"Really? Something tells me you’re scared, Young Master."
"Hah, as if I’d be scared," Chen Yuan paused for a moment, then gave a cold laugh and waved his hand dismissively. "You know I’m an atheist. This stuff is ridiculously fake. It’s boring. I stopped believing in things like this when I was a kid."
Jiangg Yao’s eyes narrowed, her face taking on a mischievous look in the shadowy light from her phone. Her expression was a mix of scorn, doubt, and a hint of looking down on him.
She said lightly, "If you’re scared, Young Master, you can just say so. I won’t laugh. I thought only little girls were afraid of horror movies, but there are always exceptions. I truly won’t look down on you for being a little coward. Being a little of anything can be cute, right?"

Maybe it was her words, or maybe it was Jiangg Yao’s utterly mocking expression, but Chen Yuan instantly sat bolt upright. "Hilarious. I was just being considerate of you two, giving you an out. You really think I’m scared? Fine! We’ll watch!"
