Chapter 211: B - Trouble ahead (2)

"It’s getting late, so I think it’d be safer if you took the bus home. You know, it’s almost nine, and there are people out at this hour who are way worse than during the day. As for me, don’t worry. I’ll wait with you at the bus stop until your bus gets here, then my mom will come pick me up. She’s kind of nosy, and she’d start bombarding me with embarrassing questions about you, thinking you’re my girlfriend, inviting you over for dinner, and all that. I’d really rather avoid that."

That’s the excuse I use to gracefully get rid of Kimberly after spending the whole afternoon together.

I would’ve gladly stayed with her until tomorrow morning, but ever since we ran out of that bar with those two guys following us from a distance after harassing Kimberly, there’s been an irresistible urge eating away at me.

My unconventional vigilante side is burning far stronger than any desire to have sex with her.

They’re probably waiting for me to wander somewhere less crowded before making their move, and that’s exactly what I intend to give them.

Kimberly finally got on the bus a few minutes ago.

Now it’s my turn to have a little fun.

I spot them right away — leaning casually against a wall about fifty meters away, smoking and chatting like nothing’s wrong, while throwing me the occasional glance to keep track of me.

They think the cover of night is on their side.

Pff. Idiots.

Long Island City is pretty deserted at this hour, but unfortunately not deserted enough for me to have my fun without being interrupted.

I need an even more secluded alley with no one else around, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for as I weave in and out of every narrow side street I come across.

Every now and then, I stop and fake a cough to catch their attention, making sure they keep following me.

I don’t even want to imagine what could’ve happened to Kimberly if I hadn’t been with her a few hours ago. She definitely wouldn’t have made it home without a terrible memory... or something even worse.

And who knows how many other girls they’ve harassed before her. Yet the cops who showed up let them go after only a few seconds, probably brushing them off with some useless warning.

It’s obvious that if the people who are supposed to keep us safe won’t do their job, then it’s up to me to make sure these two are never a threat to anyone again.

It doesn’t take long before they’ve closed the distance enough for me to hear them snickering behind me.

Luckily, I’ve just found the perfect place for their execution.

I slip into a particularly dark dead-end alley, barely lit by the faint glow of the moon.

Right on cue, they follow me, picking up the pace.

Checkmate.

"Well, well... look who it is — the cocky little punk from this afternoon. What an incredible coincidence. Small world, huh?" Robert’s sinister voice echoes behind me, his words still noticeably slurred because of his broken jaw.

"Yeah, what an incredible coincidence. Who would’ve thought..." I reply with obvious sarcasm as I turn to face them.

The two of them walk toward me with long, heavy strides, moving farther and farther away from the entrance to the alley.

Those idiots walked straight into my trap, and now they don’t stand the slightest chance of making it out alive.

They freeze in shock as I vanish right before their eyes, only for me to appear behind them a moment later, cutting off their only escape route.

It’s not some flashy teleportation spell. I simply combined my speed with the darkness around us, creating the illusion that I’d vanished and reappeared by magic.

They spin around, exchanging confused looks while muttering nervous curses under their breath.

Ah... they can’t even begin to imagine what’s waiting for them.

Just thinking about their blood splattering across the pavement, their heads rolling to my feet like watermelons, makes my mouth water.

But I won’t kill them right away.

First, I want to see the terror in their eyes. I want to watch them drop to their knees, trembling and begging for their lives.

Only then will I be satisfied enough to put an end to their agony.

"What the hell was that supposed to be? You think it’s funny messing with me?! You’re seriously starting to piss me off, kid. You have no idea who you’re dealing with!" Robert snarls.

Then he pulls a handgun from inside his jacket and points it at me.

"W-Wait, Robert... we weren’t supposed to kill the kid. We were just supposed to teach him a lesson for daring to hit you. I don’t want to end up back in prison over something this stupid!" Jamal stammers nervously, but Robert couldn’t care less.

He’s about to pull the trigger when he suddenly hesitates, his hands trembling as my eyes ignite with a vivid crimson glow and a massive axe of solid blood takes shape in my grip.

"Cut it out with your stupid magician tricks!" Robert stammers. "I-I’m gonna blow your brains out, you bargain-bin wizard!"

Just as he’s about to fire...

SLASH!

A bloodcurdling scream tears from Robert’s throat. He grabs at the spot where his right hand used to be — the one that was holding the gun — while it now lies on the ground at his feet.

A crimson fountain erupts from his wrist, and he collapses to his knees in front of me, screaming and sobbing in agony as a pool of blood spreads beneath him.

Exactly what I needed to see to satisfy my twisted sense of justice.

Perfect. Now I can kill them.

My axe gleams beneath the faint moonlight, ready to come down on that arrogant fat bastard’s neck, when...

CLANG!

Something wedges itself between the blade and his neck, stopping my strike.

A sword of white light — radiant, yet unbelievably solid.

I recognize it instantly.

It’s a Monster Slayer’s weapon.
