Chapter 54: Flames Against the Boss

At this rate, if it suffered several more attacks of the same intensity, the arm would likely snap off entirely.

After all, judging from appearances, sophisticated techniques like resetting broken bones clearly were not among the spider zombie’s skill set.

Yet Joo Joowon’s expression changed in shock.

If a normal human suffered a hit from something like that, they would either die instantly or be crippled beyond recovery.

However, the spider zombie not only blocked the attack, the price it paid was merely a caved in arm.

The limb had not even broken completely.

For a zombie body that felt no pain, this level of injury was not even enough to rob it of its mobility.

At most, it merely slowed down the spider zombie’s movements slightly.

Was this Lord Rank monster’s Physique stat a little too high?

Although shocked, Joo Joowon did not feel despair.

Without hesitation, he sprinted upstairs while simultaneously pulling out a Molotov cocktail from his bag and igniting the soaked paper wick using a windproof lighter.

Before leaving home, Joo Joowon had already prepared several soaked paper wicks in advance.

This amount of time was nowhere near enough for them to dry out completely.

Whenever he needed to attack, he could use them immediately.

After all, if he waited until the enemy already attacked before preparing everything, it would already be too late.

He had completely realized the situation now.

The spider zombie’s health bar was vastly thicker than the Level 3 Chimera Zombie he encountered previously.

Even after taking two direct hits to vital points, it still behaved as though nothing had happened.

If he relied purely on crossbow bolts, even firing all nineteen remaining bolts might still leave the creature jumping around energetically afterward.

Since that was the case, it was better to conserve ammunition and switch directly to fire attacks.

The smashed arm truly had affected the spider zombie’s speed somewhat.

That gave Joo Joowon enough time to finish his preparations before the creature caught up.

With all his strength, he hurled the Molotov cocktail toward the spider zombie.

The bottle exploded instantly.

In the blink of an eye, the spider zombie, whose body was covered entirely in thick fuzz, transformed into a massive blazing fireball.

Its tough body that feared neither blades nor axes now released a disgusting burnt stench beneath the flames.

The spider zombie apparently still retained a sense of pain.

It released a shrill screech that sounded like a mixture of agony and fury while instinctively rolling across the ground in an attempt to extinguish the flames consuming its body.

Seeing this, Joo Joowon finally breathed a small sigh of relief.

As expected, most living creatures feared fire.

If even this failed to kill it, then he would have no choice but to lure the spider zombie toward a window or the rooftop and see whether he could make it fall to its death instead.

Carefully raising the compound crossbow and keeping it aimed at the spider zombie, Joo Joowon felt as though even his thick winter clothing was about to ignite from the scorching heat radiating through the staircase.

Flames fueled by alcohol and engine oil were not something that could be extinguished easily.

Not to mention that Joo Joowon was using upgraded Molotov cocktails.

After repeatedly rolling around yet failing to reduce the flames at all, the spider zombie seemed to realize its efforts were completely useless.

Unexpectedly, it simply stopped trying to extinguish the fire altogether.

Its lower limbs lifted upward while its entire body curled into a C shape.

Shhk!

A snow white thread shot outward from the rear of its body with terrifying speed.

Boom!

The moment Joo Joowon saw the spider zombie raise its lower limbs, he immediately realized it was about to use a skill.

Without even thinking, he instantly dashed sideways.

That was one advantage of fighting inside stairwells.

The narrow environment created countless blind spots and corners that could be used for cover.

Although the attack itself did not strike him directly, Joo Joowon was still utterly shocked by the destructive power of the spider monster’s attack.

Honestly, it was not difficult to guess what kind of abilities a spider possessed.

Most web weaving spiders concentrated the majority of their abilities into their silk.

Based on Joo Joowon’s understanding of such spiders, the moment they were separated from the carefully constructed nests they prepared beforehand, nearly eighty percent of their combat capabilities became crippled already.

That description was not exaggerated at all.

Once web weaving spiders left behind their own webs, they practically lost all ability to fight and would immediately collapse onto the ground pretending to be dead.

That was knowledge Joo Joowon gained personally from playing with spiders during childhood.

Although the spider zombie obviously could not completely follow ordinary spider instincts, as a creature whose entire combat ability revolved around web silk, its combat strength undoubtedly dropped drastically once separated from its web.

And the fact that the spider zombie had not used any skills after charging out of its nest further confirmed Joo Joowon’s speculation.

However, when viewing the spider zombie from a game perspective, it was obvious the Boss definitely still possessed unused skills.

After all, everyone knew Boss monsters usually only unleashed their abilities after their health dropped below certain thresholds, causing players who believed victory was already guaranteed to instantly fail at the final moment.

Looking at the wall that had been blasted apart by the web attack, Joo Joowon felt lingering fear.

Even if he somehow survived a direct hit from that attack, if the impact threw him out through the wall and off the high rise building, there was absolutely no chance he would survive the fall.

However, things were still not over.

The web thread that shot outward could actually retract back again.

At the end of the silk hung a massive chunk of broken wall and bricks.

Like a giant pendulum hammer, the spider zombie swung it violently toward Joo Joowon.

Joo Joowon rapidly retreated toward the side of the staircase, refusing to allow the spider zombie any chance to touch him directly.
