Chapter 55: Boss Fight
After all, the spider zombie would soon burn to death anyway.
Time was on his side.
There was absolutely no reason for him to engage the monster head on.
Therefore, immediately after dodging the attack, Joo Joowon instantly sprinted upstairs once more.
The spider zombie reeled the giant swinging mass back in and immediately crawled upward after him.
Clearly, even if it died, it fully intended to drag Joo Joowon down with it.
Joo Joowon did not feel fear.
He did not blindly flee upward either.
Whenever he encountered objects placed inside the stairwell, he deliberately knocked them over to slow the spider zombie’s movements.
At the same time, he never forgot to reload the compound crossbow.
Every so often, he would suddenly turn around and fire another sneak attack bolt at the spider zombie.
Thus, while continuously kiting the monster and attacking along the way, Joo Joowon soon arrived at the rooftop floor.
The rain was still falling outside.
Although almost none of Joo Joowon’s skin was exposed, he still did not dare directly touch the rainwater.
Without hesitation, he immediately rushed into the corridor on the eighteenth floor and sprinted downstairs through the emergency stairwell on the opposite side.
To save time, Joo Joowon directly jumped down from the top floor landing.
His exceptional Agility allowed him to slightly adjust his posture midair, so after landing, he did not lose his ability to move.
Still, the impact hurt badly.
After climbing back to his feet, he repeated the same trick.
He rolled onto the seventeenth floor and immediately started running upward again.
After all, running downward would not only benefit Joo Joowon, it would benefit the spider zombie even more.
With that monster’s absurdly thick health bar, there was no way it feared the damage from a simple fall.
It could probably leap directly onto his face and kill him instantly.
Because of that, Joo Joowon’s objective from beginning to end had always been to move upward.
The longer the flames burned, the more heavily the spider zombie’s movements became affected.
So by the time Joo Joowon returned to the opposite staircase and prepared to climb upward again, the spider zombie failed to catch up.
Instead, it released furious roars powerful enough to sound as though they could collapse brick walls themselves.
"So it can’t lock onto my position."
Hearing the spider zombie’s enraged roars along with the loud crashing sounds of destruction echoing through the building, Joo Joowon finally let out a sigh of relief.
The system notification stating combat could not disengage had initially made him believe the Boss possessed some kind of automatic target locking ability.
Unexpectedly, it merely meant the battle status would remain active continuously.
It did not mean the spider zombie could permanently track his exact location.
Thinking of this, Joo Joowon immediately pulled another soaked paper wick from his pocket.
Judging by how full of energy the spider zombie still sounded, he genuinely worried a single Molotov cocktail might not be enough to kill it.
And if one was not enough, then he would simply throw another.
Besides, the spider zombie was currently tearing apart the building itself.
Joo Joowon was also worried the creature might accidentally damage the building’s load bearing walls during its rampage.
If that happened, then even if the apartment building did not collapse immediately, it probably would not remain standing much longer either.
Joo Joowon carefully listened to the sounds transmitted from the spider zombie while cautiously maintaining his distance.
Although the spider zombie could not lock onto his exact position, it was obvious that if he got too close, the creature would definitely still notice him.
It worked similarly to ordinary level one zombies.
The moment someone approached nearby, they immediately detected them.
And a Boss monster’s detection range was undoubtedly even larger.
After an unknown amount of time passed, Joo Joowon finally stopped hearing the spider zombie entirely.
After thinking briefly, he grabbed a fire extinguisher and cautiously moved forward to check the situation.
What entered Joo Joowon’s sight was complete devastation.
Dense cracks covered the walls, while broken bricks littered the stairway, creating a scene terrifying enough to make anyone’s heart tremble.
The spider zombie lay motionless on the ground, releasing a nauseating stench as flames continued roasting its body, causing oil and black smoke to constantly rise from it.
Joo Joowon placed the fire extinguisher aside and stared at the creature coldly.
There was no system notification.
It was still alive!
Joo Joowon could not help but marvel deeply at just how absurdly thick the spider zombie’s health bar was.
So this was what a true Boss looked like.
Compared to this monster, the Chimera Zombie he encountered before could no longer merely be described as underage.
That thing was basically a premature newborn infant.
The difference between their health bars was on an entirely different level altogether.
Seeing that Joo Joowon remained standing in place without approaching and had even raised his weapon again, the spider zombie realized its ambush had failed.
Immediately, it stopped pretending.
With a violent leap, it sprang upright.
Its burned and melted limbs dripped black liquid onto the ground as it opened its mouth and spat corrosive acid toward him like a showerhead.
The attack covered an extremely wide area.
This sudden explosive counterattack from the spider zombie was completely different from its earlier attacks.
There was no obvious "skill startup" beforehand.
Or rather, perhaps this was not even a skill at all.
Time was too tight for hesitation.
Joo Joowon instantly raised his arm shield while hiding the exposed half of his body behind the wall.
Even so, the highly corrosive liquid almost immediately melted pits of varying sizes into the shield’s surface, and the corrosion continued spreading further.
Seizing this opportunity, the spider zombie suddenly leaped forward.
It did not even give Joo Joowon time to react before smashing directly through the wall together with its own body, nearly burying him underneath the collapsing rubble.
