Chapter 48: Survivors on the Seventh Floor

Who could possibly guess that such harmless looking rain was actually a trap?

In novels, zombie outbreaks either erupted suddenly or were accompanied by ominous black rain, blood red suns, or other obviously abnormal phenomena.

Yet the rain before his eyes looked no different from the rain inside his memories.

This kind of normal appearance naturally caused people to relax subconsciously and overlook the hidden danger entirely.

Or rather, under these circumstances, who would even think this was dangerous?

After learning this lesson, Joo Joowon no longer dared underestimate anything that merely appeared normal after the apocalypse.

He tightly shut and locked the window before pulling the curtains closed again.

After pausing briefly, however, he suddenly reopened the curtains and pushed the window open once more.

Watching Joo Joowon’s confusing behavior, Byeol tilted its head in puzzlement.

Joo Joowon removed the Sixth Sense talent and replaced it with Enhanced Cognition instead.

Sixth Sense detected danger through sixth sense intuition.

But what about Enhanced Cognition?

Would it allow him to notice tiny details he had previously overlooked?

After equipping Enhanced Cognition, Joo Joowon narrowed his eyes slightly and looked toward the scattered strands of rain drifting outside the window.

At first, he noticed nothing unusual.

However, after a while, during the brief moment when his tired eyes blinked from soreness, he suddenly saw something hidden within the rainwater.

There seemed to be living organisms moving inside it.

No, perhaps they could not really be called living organisms.

Perhaps they were parasites instead...?

Joo Joowon himself could not properly describe it.

The moment he saw them, a certain concept instantly appeared inside his mind.

Yet when he tried examining exactly what that concept truly meant, it became strangely impossible to define clearly.

Even without Sixth Sense, Joo Joowon still felt his heart violently tremble at that moment.

He hurriedly removed the Enhanced Cognition talent.

As the talent disappeared, the fleeting things he had glimpsed also faded rapidly from his memory, leaving behind only an indescribable lingering fear.

After calming down for a while, Joo Joowon went to prepare breakfast for himself.

He also hugged and petted Byeol for comfort.

Much like how people rarely tried recalling dreams after waking up, he no longer attempted to look more carefully at what he had seen earlier.

That level of danger was simply not something a small player like him should pry into.

Sixth Sense had already clearly warned him that danger existed.

There was no need to continue investigating what exactly that danger was.

After resting properly, Joo Joowon directly prepared to head outside and hunt zombies.

Byeol sat unwillingly inside the living room, watching as Joo Joowon once again put on the round helmet before shutting the door behind him with a loud bang.

"...?"

"???"

"Meow?!"

Byeol instantly charged toward the entrance and began circling anxiously near the door.

Human servant! You forgot to bring me along for hunting!

What’s going on?!

I may be a little weak, but you can’t just abandon me like this?!

Joo Joowon did not notice the commotion near the entrance at all.

Mainly because Byeol never scratched at doors, and its meows were naturally very soft.

Once the door closed, Joo Joowon simply could not hear it.

Besides, after obtaining the Sixth Sense talent, he no longer needed to rely on Byeol for danger warnings anymore.

The combination of Sixth Sense and Mind’s Eye was already enough to ensure his safety.

He had also figured out how Sixth Sense functioned.

As long as he first formed an intention in his mind, Sixth Sense would immediately provide a vague warning regarding whether that action was dangerous or not.

Even so, while walking downstairs, Joo Joowon still did not relax merely because his instincts provided no warning.

After all, he still did not fully understand the judgment standards behind Sixth Sense.

Exactly how much danger did the talent consider worthy of warning about?

Without obtaining a definite answer, naturally he could not completely trust it.

While descending the staircase, Joo Joowon noticed that most of the stairwell windows had been left open.

After thinking briefly, he chose to tightly close the windows on every floor he passed by.

Rainwater could easily be blown indoors by the wind.

Although no such signs existed yet, the rain itself was already so fine and light that anyone with slightly poor eyesight could easily overlook it entirely.

Still, nobody could guarantee the rain would not become heavier later.

Eventually, Joo Joowon arrived at the eighth floor where he had hunted zombies yesterday.

To his surprise, this floor had already been completely cleared out.

Through the wide open apartment doors, he could vaguely see living rooms that looked as though thieves had ransacked them.

After remaining silent for a moment, Joo Joowon carefully continued descending toward the seventh floor.

Before he even fully arrived there, he already heard zombie roars echoing below.

Someone was hunting zombies on this floor.

Quietly peeking over, he discovered two people cooperating together while killing zombies.

One of them was a very overweight man holding up a wooden table as a shield wall.

The other wielded a weapon while smashing zombies to death.

Joo Joowon had no intention of interacting with them and directly continued heading downstairs.

Not everyone possessed tools as convenient as his.

Likewise, not everyone understood how easy it was to open a security door if it was not locked from the inside.

Because of that, ordinary people naturally could not kill zombies as easily as Joo Joowon could.

They first needed to figure out ways to lure the zombies trapped inside apartments out into the open.

However, security doors were not made of paper.

It was extremely difficult to kick them open after only a few strikes.

As a result, the amount of time most people spent killing a single zombie was usually far longer than Joo Joowon’s.

Back on the eighth floor, Joo Joowon had already noticed this clearly.

Aside from the apartments he himself had already cleared, the other residents had attempted all sorts of methods such as smashing walls, breaking doors, and destroying locks.
