Chapter 77: TOXIC BOTTLE
Mr Davis ran out of words to say. He came here to manipulate Mr and Mrs Anderson into pushing Ethan to marry Jasmine but it seems that things are not going to be easy.
"What are you thinking of jasper? Let’s go?" Mrs Anderson urged, getting ready to get up. She knew exactly what Mr Davis was doing and she also knew the game he wanted to play.
"I don’t think she is in her right state of mind to see anyone now if not Ethan", Mr Davis stopped her. He knew that Mrs Anderson was on to him but he wouldn’t let her find out that he was lying the whole time.
"Is that so? That is too bad because Ethan is quite busy with his life and I don’t think he will have the time to fly back here to visit Jasmine", she replied and casually took a sip of her tea. "I think it’s time for Jasmine to move on. I mean, she is a beautiful girl and am sure she can find better men out there, someone who can return her love".
If only she knew that Mr Davis didn’t care about love but only cared about the benefits he would be getting when Ethan and Jasmine get married to each other.
Mr Davis gritted his teeth in anger when he heard what she said. He needed to make things go exactly according to his plan but he knew that things will only be more difficult now that Ethan knows what he was planning.
Mr Davis could have chosen some other men out there but Ethan and Jasmine were very good friends when they were still very little. Jasmine was the only female friend that Ethan had and that made Mr Davis come up with this scheme.
He was familiar with Ethan, and their resources had passed the borders and beyond since Ethan took over his father’s company. Mr Davis knew that the company would still get more successful in the hands of Ethan which meant more profit for him when they get married.
He needed to trap Ethan, Mr Davis thought to himself. But the only person who is quite dear to him apart from his family is Erika. An idea suddenly popped up in his head.
What Mr Davis didn’t know was that Mr and Mrs Anderson were watching him closely.

Meanwhile, at the Hart mansion. It was late in the afternoon and non of the masters of the house was around except Mary. Butler David was looking at his wristwatch from time to time waiting for her to leave.
Mary always leaves the mansion every evening to go attend parties or evening tea with other social elites. Butler David had a rag in his hand which he was using to clean the furnitures in the living room.
He had been there for over 10 minutes waiting for when Mary would leave so that he could go to the attic. He could have done it now but he had a feeling that Mary would find out about it if he went there while she was still in the house.
Finally, he heard the upstairs bedroom door open and close. He heard the sound of Mary’s heels that were clicking on the clean marble staircase.
"David, am leaving now. Dinner should be prepared before am back", she instructed and butler David assured her before she left.
Butler David only moved from where he was standing when he heard her car zoom off. "She is gone", he muttered to himself.
He dropped the rag on a couch and dashed to the attic. He walked up the stairs quietly, even though non of the masters were around. There were still some servants around who could report to Mary if they saw him going up to the attic.
Butler David reached the attic and quietly unlocked the door before he pushed it open. The attic had so many brown boxes arranged beside one another very properly. The attic was not dusty at all because butler David made sure to clean it regularly.
He started opening the boxes to search for what Ethan requested for. He opened from one box to the other but there was no luck in finding either the shampoo or cream.
Butler David opened another box and he saw the drugs that was prescribed to grandma Elizabeth by the doctor. He pulled out a bag from his pocket and put the drugs inside. Although Ethan didn’t ask for the drugs, he felt that it could be helpful.
He opened several boxes later until he found the shampoo and cream. "Thank God", he mumbled before quickly putting them in the bag. He closed the box and left the attic to go to his room.
It was a good thing that he had not come across any servant since now. He hid the bag under his bed safely. He checked his wristwatch again only to see that it was still early and non of the family members will be back until later.
Butler David decided to search Mary’s bedroom for more evidence. He didn’t know if he would be able to find anything potential but he would only know when he tried. He left his room and climbed up the stairs again.
He opened the door and went inside. The lights were not on but the light that came the sun set was enough to lighten up the room. He started searching from the closets, he made sure not to move her clothes too much so that they won’t look out of place but he didn’t see anything there.
Butler David moved to the drawers that were near the mirror. He pulled open every single one of them but still didn’t see anything. He became a little frustrated. He checked his wristwatch again and it was almost time for him to start preparing for dinner. He decided to do this another time.
He walked to the door but immediately saw that one of the clothes had fallen down on the ground. He went back in to pick it up and hang it back the way he saw it but then he saw a save that he had missed earlier because he was in a hurry.
"How did I miss this?" he asked himself. He didn’t know if anything would be inside the save but even if there was anything, he didn’t know the password.
He was about to try his luck but then he heard footsteps and he could hear them coming closer and closer to the room. The doors to the room opened and Mary walked in.
She walked to the closet, typed in her password and opened the save to take money from it and walked out of the room without feeling the presence of anyone.
Butler David came of out from his hiding place when he heard her leave. He strode towards the save that she didn’t bother to cover with the cloth anymore. But that wasn’t the thing that surprised him, it was the password that she typed. That date was exactly the same day that grandma Elizabeth died.
Butler David typed in the password of the save and it opened for him as well. His eyes widened in surprise when he saw what was inside.
Fat wads of money were arranged in the save with plenty of jewelries that looked expensive. They were surely made with real gold and diamonds. The save was big and the money inside filled it up. Butler David reached in to touch the money inside.
"How did she get so much money?" He asked himself as he rummaged through the wads of money. "These are all the late matriarch’s jewelries". He took a closer look at the jewelries. He was assured that it was indeed the late matriarch’s when he saw a gold bracelet that the old woman loved wearing to gatherings.
He searched some more before he saw a bottle. He took it and read the things written on it. The medical words were quite hard to pronounce and understand but he understood the bold letters written on the body of the bottle.
"Highly toxic".
Butler David had never seen that bottle before but if it was highly toxic, why did Mary hide it in her save? he asked himself.
He didn’t waste anymore time there, he put the bottle in his pocket and arranged the money that he scattered. He left the save the way it was when she opened it so that she wouldn’t suspect anything.
He quietly opened the door and snuck out from there. It was already late and he needed to start preparing for dinner but he needed to keep the bottle safe.
He couldn’t place it under the bed like he did with the others so he continued looking until he finally chose to hide it in his container of already used cream. The obvious place is mostly the last place to start searching for missing objects.
He brought his phone from his pocket and texted Erika. He would need to give her the bottle as soon as possible before Mary finds out that it was missing. When he was done, he left for the kitchen.
