Chapter 376: LIFE SURPRISES
"I really can’t believe that you agreed to go to jail just because you felt like it," Adrain said to the person beside him who had viper tattoo on his arms. "And for what exactly? I have no idea. You are a notorious criminal, you could easily escape from here and run away but you decided to stay here, please tell me why?" He asked Viper who was looking up at the sky as if Adrain was not beside him, talking to him to begin with.
After waiting for a while and Viper didn’t respond to him yet, Adrain frowned.
"Did the cat catch your tongue?" He demanded.
Since they were both in prison, Adrain didn’t feel the need to respect Viper at all so he spoke to him anyhow.
Frowning, viper turned to Adrain and glared at him.
"Don’t you have somewhere else to be? Probably get beaten up by those people again or do you want me to call them over and have you beaten up?" He suggested, completely irritated with Adrain bugging him now and then.
Viper had thought that he wouldn’t have to meet Adrain again but life surprised him by placing them in the same cell, now they had been seeing each other for the past month since Adrian arrived.
Adrain hissed at Viper, completely annoyed with his threats. Trey and his group of fellow inmates have been bothering him whenever they got the chance and that always annoyed him because he had no one he could befriend to stand with him. The others were weaklings and they all feared Trey and his group.
"But if you want to know if I ever loved Erika then the answer is yes," Viper said, staring straight at Adrian whose expression changed from frustrated to angry. "Don’t tell me you are surprised by it," Viper added.
"I’m not surprised at all, I just hate it when you say it out loud," Adrain corrected.
Viper chuckled at hearing Adrain’s words and the latter only furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"Which was why you delayed the plan to kidnap her and exchange her with Felicia for so long. Felicia warned me about this but I always pushed away the idea because I didn’t think it was true. I guess she was right after all," he continued, sighing afterwards.
He’d seen the signs but chose to ignore them since he didn’t want to believe that Viper would actually be in love with Erika, and now, he wanted to know why he loved her. Erika was his ex-wife, and it was only natural that he loved her even though he betrayed her, he thought.
"Why?"
"Why what?" Viper questioned back.
"Why do you love her? You don’t even know her," Adrain replied.
Viper scoffed when he heard Adrain but didn’t explain why he loved them. He didn’t even know if he should call it love since Erika had the face of his dead wife and Adrain had no business in knowing he kept quiet and pretended to not hear his question while his gaze settled on the other inmates who were being instructed by the wardens to do some hard labor as extra punishment.
Adrain noticed this and felt even more frustrated.
"Erika is mine," he claimed ownership as if he was battling with someone.
Viper glanced at him and smiled.
"You’ve been saying that for the longest time ever and when have I seen Erika acknowledge you even for a second?" He asked him and Adrain frowned. "Does she even love you, Adrain? I think we both know the answer to that."
Adrain clenched his fist tightly but released it with a sigh. As much as he didn’t want to accept that fact yet, he knew that Viper was right after all. Erika didn’t love him. She was with a better person. Someone who treated her right.
"That was all of my mistake. Even though I love her, I ended up loving her late, when she was already with someone else."
Viper released a tired sigh before he said,
"I really don’t care about what you feel or think at the moment. She can never be yours so stop daydreaming."
With that, viper got up from the rock they were sitting on and walked back into the cell room to continue his own part of the hard labor, leaving Adrain behind who glared at him from behind.
It didn’t take long after Viper left did the warden find Adrain still sitting on the rock and not doing any work.
"What are you still doing here? Don’t you know you have to work?" The warden questioned Adrain, ready to hit him with a stick.
Adrain quickly got up from there and walked towards where Trey and his group were, cleaning some parts of the yard.
"It’s a good thing you are here," said Trey as soon as he saw Adrain coming. "I’m tired, so hurry up and arrange the chairs for me, then you can do every other thing the others want you to do for them," Trey ordered, ready to walk out but Adrain stopped him by saying.
"I’m not doing any of that. The warden has already given us the parts where we have to arrange and cut off and you are not allowed to give it to someone else especially if the person does not want it," said Adrain.
Trey glared at Adrian for a few seconds before he started laughing. The others didn’t know exactly why he was laughing but they joined him still, mocking Adrian.
When he was done laughing, he walked towards Adrain who was staring at him calmly but yet agitated by his behavior, and looked him in the eyes with a daring look.
"Whatever I tell you to do, that’s what you will do, do you hear me?!" He demanded, spitting directly in Adrain’s face.
"And what if I refuse? Do you want another punch in the face again? Maybe the one I gave you before wasn’t enough to tighten the loose screws in your head," Adrain fired back, also spitting in Trey’s face.
