Chapter 370: ADOPTED
Erika got into the car that was parked outside of the prison and the driver zoomed off. Looking down at Jake who had been quiet throughout the ride back home, she tapped him gently on the shoulder to gain his attention and he looked up at her with his big doe eyes.
"Did you enjoy visiting your father? Do you like him?" She asked him one question after the other. Even though he’d been mostly quiet without much reaction when Adrain hugged him, he didn’t retaliate at all but she would still love to hear him say a few words.
"Is he really my father?" Jake asked and Erika nodded in response. "Then why is he in jail? Did he do something wrong?"
Erika looked ahead and she sighed before she replied. "Your father did some bad things so this is the way he is going to be serving his punishment."
"Will he ever come out?"
Erika turned speechless this time, not knowing how to reply to his question. She was stuck between lying to him or telling him the truth that Adrain would be in prison for the rest of his life but how was she supposed to tell that to a four-year-old boy who just met his father for the first time in prison? Was she to sugarcoat it? But Jake was a smart kid which surprised her since his mother was a delusional bitch while his father also suffered from the same problem.
Coughing to clear her throat, Erika replied,
"I’m not sure if he’s ever going to come out but if you want, you can visit him anytime you want, hmm?"
Jake stared at her for a few seconds before he nodded in understanding and lowered his head.
Years ago, Erika didn’t want to have anything to do with Jake, especially since he was the child that belonged to her enemies, but after having several thoughts, she was able to decide with Ethan’s help.
After visiting him for the first time at the orphanage a few months back, Erika decided to adopt and take him in as her son but before that, she wanted him to see his father and know what he looked like as for Felicia, she wasn’t sure if she was going to let Jake see her ever.
Arriving at the house, Erika instructed Jude,
"Please take him inside. I have somewhere else I want to go."
Jude nodded and took Jake who waved Erika goodbye before he went inside.
Looking at Erika from the rearview mirror, the driver asked,
"Madam, where do you want to go?"
**
The car stopped in front of another prison cell but this one was meant for women only. The wardens were women and the inmates were also women, not a single man could be seen anywhere.
Heaving a heavy sigh, Erika closed the door of the car and walked inside. After signing her name and the name of the person that she had come to visit, she took a seat at the visiting area and waited for her mortal enemy.
—
"Who did you say was calling me?" Inside the cell room, Felicia questioned the warden who had informed her about her new visitor. Not like anyone has visited her since a month ago she was jailed.
"Do you have anything in your ears?" The warden questioned her back, this time irritated but Felicia’s constant question about who was visiting her. "I said the name is Erika Anderson."
Felicia clenched her fist and gritted her teeth in anger at the sound of that name.
"What’s that bitch doing here?" She asked no one in particular as anger surged in her body.
"Oh, so you have an enemy outside of this jail? I’m not surprised at all. If you can make enemies inside the jail then outside of it should be easier for you right?" One of the inmates, elderly and respected by the other inmate who also goes by a familiar name, Madam Laura spoke and everyone erupted in laughter.
Felicia clenched her fist but couldn’t do anything. She was more curious as to why Erika had come to visit her all of a sudden.
Ignoring Madam Laura’s comment, Felicia marched forward and walked out of the cell room, following the warden to the visiting area.
As soon as Felicia made eye contact with Erika whose eyes were already at the entrance of the cell room, she scoffed before she erupted in a laughter of mockery but wasn’t aware she was laughing at herself.
"I thought that the warden must have made a mistake and called someone else Erika Anderson but I guess it was indeed the most pathetic Erika WALTERS I’ve ever seen. The one person I can’t wait to see be in here with me so that I can torture her as much as I want to."
Erika watched Felicia as she continued to spout disgusting things out of her mouth and when she was done and Erika’s usual plain expression still hadn’t changed, she hissed in annoyance.
"What brings you here? Do you want to change places with me finally so that I can be with my Ethan that you stole from me bitch?!" Felicia asked as she glared at Erika who was still quiet.
Staring at Felicia for a few more seconds, Erika sighed before she replied.
"You still haven’t changed at all. I thought that staying in jail would perhaps change something about you since you are rotting from head to toe but no, I guess you love where you are now." Erika glanced at the surroundings, with a smile of mockery which vexed Felicia.
The latter was about to point a finger at Erika in a warning gesture but Erika interrupted her before she could say anything.
"Anyway, this is not why I’m here. I don’t care about how you live your life but I’ve come to tell you something important."
"And what could that be?" Felicia scoffed.
"Jake is now my son." Erika declared.
