Chapter 369: UNLUCKY
Erika allowed Jake to spend half an hour with Adrain until it was time for them to leave. Erika stood up, holding Jake’s hand as he waved Adrain goodbye but Adrain stopped them.
"Can I have a word with you please?" Adrain asked Erika who cocked an eyebrow at him but later nodded.
Erika fetched her phone and told her to come pick up Jake and in no time, she arrived and took him to the car.
"What do you want to talk about this time?" She asked as soon as Jake was already gone with Jude.
Adrain cleared his throat before he started to speak.
"I know this must have been hard on you," he started, looking at her but her expression was completely plain and so, he continued. "But I want to say thank you for bringing Jake to see me. I still can’t believe that he has grown this big and he looks so much like me."
Erika didn’t reply immediately and Adrain continued, feeling awkward this time.
"If I may ask, why did you bring Jake to see me in the first place?" He asked.
Erika sighed before she replied. "Because I’m not a bad person. Yes, you and Felicia have tried several ways to ruin my life but Jake has no hand in it. He’s just an innocent kid and I won’t punish him for something he didn’t do. Also, he deserves to know his parents."
"How did I miss such a woman like you and marry a jinx like Felicia?" Adrain asked himself, more tears streaming down from his eyes. "If only...."
"I think we shouldn’t go there. This is the present and nothing you say will be able to change a thing," Erika interrupted him before he could continue. "And before you ask, I will continue to bring Jake here once in a while but that would be only if he wants to. I can’t force him if he doesn’t want to but I doubt he wouldn’t want to see you," she added.
Adrain nodded in understanding and without wasting a second, Erika stood up to leave.
Adrain sat on his chair, trying to think of things but his thoughts were immediately interrupted when a warden walked towards him and tapped him on the shoulder with the banton.
"You need to go back to your cell right now." Said the warden and started pulling Adrian up.
The latter didn’t fight and walked back into the cell.
As soon as he got back into his jail, he sighted his fellow inmates who gave him irritated looks but he didn’t stare at them for too long and faced front.
"So..." an inmate with an eyepatch placed his hand on Adrian’s shoulder as he spoke. "What are you going to do for us today? Clean our toilets or clean our cell?" He asked with a dirty look on his face. He was no other than one of the gang members that Adrain had associated himself with to rob a bank before.
Adrain had been surprised when he saw him in jail since he’d expected him to be back in California but it seemed that they had all been transferred.
"I’m not doing anything for you, and if you dare force me, I will report you to the warden?" Adrain threatened.
"Oh look, he wants to report us to the warden," the eyepatch guy repeated Adrain’s words and every other inmate laughed out loud, mocking him. "And after we get reported to the wardens, we will get beaten up, huh?" He continued, laughing in Adrain’s face and his bad breath only made Adrain want to choke.
"Unfortunately, the warden won’t listen to him because he doesn’t have a single sense in that empty brain of his," Trey, the gang leader who had been bitten by a dog that time added, and echoes of laughter erupted in the cell room. "He stole such a huge amount of money from us, thinking we wouldn’t find him but here he is, he came back to us." As soon as those words came out of his mouth, Trey felt a heavy punch on his face and he collapsed on the ground.
Immediately, the others gathered and started punching Adrian, who had punched Trey a second ago. Since it was just him against so many people, he was beaten to a pulp just like the last time, ever since he was imprisoned.
The wardens quickly took notice of the commotion that was happening and intervened.
"All of you are in big trouble," one of the wardens said, glaring at them all.
He stared down at Adrain’s shirt that had been ripped apart but he didn’t comment on it since it was the fight that had caused it.
"We weren’t the ones who started it. It was this brainless fool here who thinks he can hit anyone of us here and get away with it that started it. Look at what he did to Trey, he punched the guy till he fell unconscious," the eyepatch guy pointed at Trey who was still lying on the ground with his nose bleeding.
"I don’t care which one of you started it, all of you are in trouble," said the warden and without further ado, they were taken away to serve their punishments while Adrain stayed at the back, feeling his blood boil due to how much anger he was feeling at that moment.
He’d been really happy to see his son after 4 long years now, his inmates ruined his joy by making him angry and he was going to get punished for it.
He still couldn’t believe how unlucky he was to be in the same cell room as the people he’d once thought he’d gotten rid of. This was the real definition of karma and now he doesn’t know how long he would be able to survive it.
It was obvious that Trey was trying to kill him especially since they knew that he was the one who’d killed their leader back then.
