Chapter 338: ASKING

Inside the police station, Erika walked inside, hand in hand with Ethan as he led her in. When she raised her head to glance at him, she noticed a scowl settling on his face.

Tugging his arm to get his attention, Erika mumbled.

"You know you don’t have to look like that, right? We are in the police station and nothing is going to happen here."

Ethan only nodded his head and smiled at her before they walked further into the station. The station was different from the one where Adrain had been captured that last time and they didn’t trust to put Viper in that same station.

Ethan had suggested to have Viper kept in the prison where Mary and Juliet had been locked up but Edward had objected to the idea saying it wasn’t needed. He recommended a police station that his friend owned and assured them that Viper wouldn’t be able to escape even if he tried.

As soon as the first police officer who stood behind the table sighted the both of them, he nodded in respect and spread his arms forward to gesture to the next door.

They followed behind him, until they saw Viper behind the bars of the cell.

Staring at the man who once dressed in clean, leather clothes looked different from the one who was sitting on the ground behind bars.

As if he could hear her thoughts, Viper turned around and made eye contact with Erika which seemed to have sent a bolt of electricity through her body. Her grip suddenly tightened on Ethan’s hand and the latter looked at her in worry.

"If you don’t want to see him, we can leave now," he suggested but as soon as those words left his lips, Erika shook her head—objecting to the idea.

Earlier, she had gone and met Ethan to take her to the police station where Viper had been locked up. Ethan didn’t want to do it but eventually, she was finally able to convince him to take her while her babies stayed with their grandparents and aunties back home.

Erika still had a lot of questions to ask Viper. She was still curious to know what killed Emma, viper’s late wife, and his two sons. He did say he was at fault but that only confused her more and that day, she wanted to know everything.

"Good day Erika," said Viper, greeting Erika who stared at him with questions. He was aware of the questions she was about to ask and he was fully ready to reply to every one of her questions.

He glanced at Ethan, noticing how the latter was glaring hard at him. His eyes settled on their hands that were linked together and he smiled for an unknown reason.

"How has your day been?" He asked, smiling till it stretched to his cheeks, making him look like a clown without colors.

Silence.

The silence was all they could hear until Viper sighed before his smile faltered.

"Erika has some questions to ask you and I believe you have the answers." Ethan finally said and Viper grinned.

"Is that right?" asked Viper, his eyes settling on Erika for a brief second before he focused back on Ethan who was staring at him with warning now. "What kinds of questions would you want me to answer?" He asked his questions directed to Erika, while his gaze was still focused on Ethan.

"You know what kind," Erika replied.

Viper hummed then gestured for the seat behind them. "How about you both take a seat but first, if your questions involves anything that has to do with Adrain and his disappearance, I don’t have any information to disclose to you."

They both avoided his remark and took a seat close.

"It’s about Emma and how did she die?" That question came out the wrong way Erika didn’t want it to and immediately, she regretted the tone she had used to ask such a question.

Viper clicked his tongue. "It seems you have come to open old wounds, hmm? But since you want answers, I’m going to answer everything you ask me." His eyes turned to Ethan and then he scowled. "Only on the condition that Ethan won’t be here to hear it," he added.

"And why is that?" Ethan questioned.

"I’m going to be revealing personal informations about myself. Do you think I’m telling you a story?" Viper questioned back. "If you don’t leave, I’m not going to tell Erika anything," he concluded, resting on the walls behind him.

Ethan glanced at Erika, knowing how badly she wanted to know what happened to Emma and her children. After a second thought, he nodded, pecked Erika on the forehead, and left the room but not without giving Viper another warning look.

"He must love you so much to leave you with me here just because you wanted to know about something. Now, isn’t he a caring boyfriend?" Viper teased, almost in a mocking tone but Erika didn’t mind answering and repeated her question.

"What happened to Emma and her children? How did they die and what did you mean by it was all your fault?"

The grin on Viper’s face suddenly faltered as his solemn expression took over his whole facial look.

"Like I said before, I will answer all of your questions but I have one question to ask you." He said, waiting for her to give him a signal so that he could continue. When she nodded her head asking,

"What’s your question?" He continued,

"Why do you want to know what happened to them?"

When Erika didn’t reply to his question, he chuckled slightly.

"Don’t tell me you feel pity for me for what happened. As much as it hurt, I was able to grow through it and still stay strong so you don’t have to feel pi—...."

"I don’t feel any sort of pity for you," Erika lied. "I’m just curious. It’s not every day that I see someone who looks like me from a phone and then find out that they are dead and so are their children," she added.
