Chapter 322: HEADING HOME
Nine months later
"Ethan, we need to hurry up before we miss our flight back home," Erika urged Ethan, who was learning how to change the diapers of one of their babies.
In the middle of his task, Ethan asked Erika, "Are you done changing Luca’s diapers?"
Erika huffed with her hands on her waist as she stared at Ethan. "I was done changing his diaper minutes ago, and I even had the time to feed him, and now that I come back, you are still here, trying to change John’s diapers?" She questioned.
"Don’t yell at me." Ethan surrendered, raising his hands in the air before adding. "I’m done so we can go now."
Erika stared at her son’s diapers that Ethan made sure he’d helped him wear neatly and couldn’t help but smile at his progress.
It’s been two months since she gave birth to her twin boys, John and Luca. They had been the biggest gift of her life, now looking at John smiling at her, she couldn’t help but smile as well.
"Okay! Now that is over, how about we start heading down to the airport now? I’m sure our parents have missed us so much and they must be waiting for us right now," she said, picking John up and putting him in his stroller like she did with Luca earlier.
"You need to relax," said Ethan. "Our flight is going to take off in the next two hours, and getting to the airport is only going to take an hour, so we have enough time and we aren’t going to miss anything," he assured her, wrapping his hands around her waist as he nuzzled his head in her neck.
Erika released a sigh. It’s been several months since she had been home and she missed her family so much. Even more than she did when she hadn’t seen them for three years straight after getting married to Adrain years ago.
"I guess you are right, but we still have to get there early," she reminded and started pushing Luca’s stroller while Ethan pushed John’s.
Together, they got to their car, strapped the babies to their seats, ignited the engine of the car, and started moving.
"I wonder what kind of surprise they would be holding up for us," Erika mumbled randomly.
"Surprise?" Ethan asked with a cocked eyebrow.
"Well, yes. Monica said she would throw a party for me and the babies so that they can meet each other," she replied, looking out the rearview behind to watch the babies whose eyes were already closed as they slept peacefully without a care in the world as she heard Ethan hum to her reply.
Erika grabbed a magazine that was lying down beside her elbow and opened it to read.
—
"Boss, should I go through with the plan now? The men are ready and the target will arrive at the airport in less than an hour," a man said over the phone as he spoke with his boss.
"Do it, but make sure that the kids and Erika will be okay even with the impact," Viper over the phone, his voice holding so much excitement that he would be seeing Erika again.
"Okay, boss." The caller hung up on the call and made another call as he continued to follow behind Ethan’s car but from a far distance to not look suspicious. "Do it but make sure that the kids and the lady will be okay!" He said the same words that Viper had said just a minute ago.
—
"I still can’t believe we are going home now. Gosh, I wish we could fly there right now," Erika said as she leaned her head on the car seat.
"We are flying over there with an airplane so yeah, we are flying there," he joked, glancing at her with a smile before looking back on the road.
"Yeah sure," Erika snorted and continued to read her magazine. Another question came to Erika’s mind and she parted her lips to ask but at that moment, she felt their car moving at a speed that it seemed unable to control and Ethan wasn’t driving anymore. Their car was moving out of the road when the truck hit them again, sending them flying to hit a large tree branch with a heavy impact.
"You hit their car way too hard, what if none of them survives it?" A man questioned, his voice holding so much annoyance as he stepped down from the truck. He looked left and right only to find the street empty. "You are lucky that no one is here to watch this happen. We would have been in big trouble," he added.
A small car arrived and parked beside their truck.
The man stepped down from the car and glared at the car that was looking completely damaged.
Ignoring the two men in front of the truck, the heavy man marched towards the damaged car, hearing the cries of the babies and he frowned.
Quickening his steps, he stopped beside it and found Erika’s and Ethan’s heads on the headrest, bleeding profusely while the babies cried out loud.
"What part of ’Do it but make sure that Erika and the babies will be okay’did you not understand?" the man questioned two truck drivers who stared at the ground.
"I told him exactly what you said over the phone but he never listens to me," the one scolding the driver said, while glaring at him. "He’s just stupid," he added.
"I didn’t think the impact would be that hard," the other defended himself. "I only intended to knock them out so that it would be easier for us to adopt them," he continued.
"Well now, because of your intentions, there’s a chance that the lady is dead," the first guy continued his scolding.
Having had enough of the truck drivers quarrel, the heavy man ordered, "Will you two hurry up and come take them out of here before someone shows up?"
