Chapter 212: LIMPING
In the evening, Adrian arrived at the mansion and directly went to look for Erika. Because of her, he had to stay in the prison overnight. The evidence that Felix had presented was only the recording of the call between Erika and the police officer.
They claimed that wasn’t enough proof to put Adrian in prison but enough to have him watched. He was now a suspect in the kidnapping when he was actually the one who did it.
When he got to Erika’s room, she wasn’t there. He went back outside to check the garden and the library but she was nowhere to be found.
With rage, Adrian called the bodyguards and demanded, "Where’s Erika?"
One of the heavy-suited men responded, "We saw her last at the garden before she left."
"And where did she go?"
The bodyguards glanced at each other but the same one replied, "We think she went back to her bedroom since we didn’t see her come out anymore."
"You think? I was just in her bedroom but I couldn’t find her anywhere!" Adrian yelled. "You’d better search for her around the mansion and make sure that you find her, do you hear me?! If Erika has escaped from this place, I will kill all of you!" He promised. And without being told twice, the bodyguards immediately scattered to start their search.
The three other women came out when they heard the yelling and were surprised to see Adrian’s body which was covered with bruises. He had a black eye and his shirt was slightly covered with blood.
"What are you yelling about Adrian?" Mary asked him.
Adrian rubbed his temples before he replied, "I think Erika has escaped."
"WHAT?!!" The three of them exclaimed in shock.
"Did you see her around today?" He questioned them and they nodded.
"Well, we did eat breakfast together and had a talk but we never knew that she would dare to escape," Felicia replied while skipping the part where she thought she’d almost poisoned Erika with acid but sadly, it wasn’t an acid.
"Talk? What did you talk about?" Adrian questioned her with a glare. He was aware of the hatred they all had for each other so she wasn’t a fool to believe that they had just an ordinary talk. "Tell me!" Adrian demanded when Felicia hadn’t replied to him yet.
"Believe me when I say I was just having a casual talk with her, trying to build a friendship and nothing else," Felicia replied desperately, hoping that Adrian would believe her.
Adrian glared at her before he left to go look for Erika. On his way, he met the other bodyguards and they stopped to inform him, "We still haven’t found her yet. I think she had escaped boss."
"How could she have escaped when you people are right here, watching the place? Did any car leave this place?" He questioned and the bodyguard replied,
"No boss. We’ve been securing the whole place properly and we haven’t spotted her doing anything suspicious in the cameras apart from walking around."
"You saw her walking around the mansion and you didn’t find that suspicious?" Adrain questioned. Erika was smart, he was aware of that now since she was able to make a phone call with the police and report him. "Bring the footage from the cameras to me," he demanded and the guard quickly vanished to bring the stuff.
Felicia couldn’t believe that Erika had the guts to escape from the mansion. She had driven out of the mansion twice already and she was aware of how far the path that led to the main city was. The last time she saw Erika was after she poured the drink on her, which was singing in the morning and it was evening now. If Erika had escaped since that time, then she could have gone far enough even with the foot.
And to think that Erika had left so that she could be with Ethan again, drove her mad. If only the content that Mr Lee had given to her was a real acid then she was sure that Erika wouldn’t even be alive by now talking more if escaping.
The bodyguard brought the footage and showed it to Adrain.
In the video, Erika was walking around the garden as he’d said before she entered her room. The camera captured her grabbing furniture before she hit the camera, knocking it down. Adrian checked the time she knocked on the camera and mumbled, "It was three hours ago. She’d been missing for the past three and none of you even noticed?"
The bodyguards shivered. Erika had always been obedient and never gave them any threat so they assumed she wouldn’t dare to try to escape. In the first week that she’d been kidnapped and brought here, they had watched her movements with keen eyes but after they noticed that she didn’t attempt to run away, they didn’t bother to check with the cameras again because they found it completely unnecessary.
"Go and find her now!" Adrian demanded and they continued their search. "Half of you should stay here and the rest, follow me," he ordered.
With his painful body, Adrian walked back to his car and got inside. Half of the bodyguards followed him while some got in the other car before they ignited the engine of the car and left the mansion. They were going to look for her outside the mansion since it was obvious that she wasn’t in there anymore.
"Erika got guts, she dared to escape from here but in a way, I’m happy she did," Juliet commented with a smile. "I don’t know what Adrian found in her that made him want to keep her here. Wherever she is, I hope she’s never found and brought back here," she prayed.
Felicia wore a scowl when she heard Juliet’s prayers. She was half happy and half sad that Erika was able to escape and for the first time, she wished that Adrian was able to catch Erika and bring her back here.
