Chapter 147: TEAM UP
At the prison cells in California,
After the cell phone had been seen, every inmate found out that it was Felicia who took it and now Madam Laura would always torture Felicia by sending her on more errands, which only made things harder for Felicia and Mary tried to help her as much as she could.
"You are going to fetch the water right after you are done massaging me", Madam Laura said.
Felicia’s face glistened with sweat as she tried to keep up but the middle-aged woman wouldn’t let her rest even for a second.
"Madam Laura, I am quite tired, can I have a moment to rest, please?" she pleaded but Madam Laura paid deaf ears to her complaints as she continued to fan herself. "Madam Laura", Felicia called the woman again.
"What is it?" Madam Laura hissed in annoyance.
"I said I am tired, can I please have a moment to rest," she repeated.
"And why? You haven’t even done anything yet and you are tired? you have not even fetched the water that I asked of you", said Madam Laura.
Felicia wiped off the sweat that was on her forehead with the back of her palm. It was obvious that Madam Laura knew she was the one who took her cellphone but since Felicia didn’t want to hand it over to her, she had planned to work her to death.
"But I need to rest a bit please", she pleaded.
Madam Laura suddenly sprang up and glared at her.
"Is that so? Maybe you should have thought about that before you decided to steal my phone from me. This is just to teach you a lesson, hopefully, you will learn", said Madam Laura.
Felicia clamped her mouth shut and stared at her big belly. She was already 7 months pregnant and in the next two months, she will give birth. The hard labor that she had been doing in the cell had been draining her of all of her strength but she knew better than to not complain, else she would have to do more. Her legs had started to heel and she could now walk more properly than the last few days but Madam Laura didn’t care about that as she continued to order her around.
"But I’ve been working since morning and I haven’t had breakfast yet..."
"SHUT UP!!" Madam Laura snapped. "Don’t tell me that nonsense. Whether you have eaten or have not eaten, I don’t care. You could die if you want, we will just throw you in the gutter and rot", she said to Felicia. Madam Laura used her leg to kick Felicia and she fell to the ground.
The other lackeys laughed to their heart’s content with their boss while the latter protected her belly before she landed on the ground.
"Get up from there and go the massage," she ordered and Felicia sniffed back her tears before she sat back down on the ground and started the massage.
"She probably thinks you are going to show her mercy because she is pregnant", said one lackey.
"She shouldn’t have stolen the boss’ phone, now look at what she had brought upon herself", said another.
"To think that she hid it in the toilet because she is planning her escape is completely stupid of her", said Raven, the inmate who found the cell phone and the others laughed.
When Madam Laura heard their words, she said,
"That’s enough. Now, all of you, leave from here. Go do some work or something", she dispersed them as they all groanin dissatisfaction. "What was that?" she asked them.
"It’s nothing," they said and quickly disappeared from there.
In the cell, there were only Madam Laura and Felicia, who continued to massage the old woman’s foot, oblivious to the look that the old woman was giving her, studying her before she said,
"So you were planning to escape? Can you give me more details about what you and your brother had planned to do?"
Felicia looked up at the woman before she lowered her head and asked, "I thought you said the matter should be discussed so that no warden would hear about it?"
"Hmm", madam Laura hummed. "But I can’t kill this curiosity of mine when you said you wanted to escape from here. That had been everyone’s wish if you think about it", said the woman before she reached for her hand fan and added, "To escape from here. To not be in these cages but to be free, that’s what we all want".
Felicia stared at the woman and asked, "What do you mean?"
"Are you dumb? Don’t you understand my words?" She questioned Felicia. "What I am saying is, I support you and I would like for us to team up so that we can all escape from this place. It’s that simple."
Felicia’s hands that had been massaging the foot abruptly came to a stop when she heard Madam Laura’s words. She raised her head and stared at the woman with furrowed eyebrows.
"You want to team up with me?" she asked to be sure she had heard the right thing.
"You are starting to irritate me again, do you want another kick, huh? I’m sure a five-year-old would understand my English but even after being so close, you don’t seem to", madam Laura snapped as she rubbed her temples. "I’m saying that I want you to call that brother of yours and continue your plan of escaping from her but the thing is, I will join you, do you understand me now?"
Felicia stared at the woman with open mouth before she came back to her senses and asked,
"But you just..."
"That was just a facade since my lackeys were here", the woman replied to her question before she could complete it.
"I still don’t understand why you would want to team up with me though, you have stayed here longer than I have. If you wanted to escape then you could have done it a long time ago", said Felicia.
