Chapter 140: BAD PERSON
"Nonsense, by the time he gets here, I’m sure it would be past midnight already," said Jake as he tried to lure her into his car.
Monica stared at Jake, she noticed the smile that he wore earlier was still displayed on his lips, as if he had decided to no rest his cheekbones.
"So let’s go?" Jake urged her but she declined again,
"Thank you for the offer but like I said, Felix is on his way. He will be here soon".
"Are you scared of me Monica? Are you scared that I might do something to you?" he questioned her when her resistance started to irritate him. "I’m not a bad person, I just want to take you home since you are stranded on the street and besides, you are my friend".
Speechless, Monica clamped her mouth shut and looked away. Felix had informed her to stay away from Jake. Although she didn’t know the real reason behind the warning, she didn’t want to take the risk.
"I know that we are friends but Felix is on his way here, if I end up going with you, how will he know that am no longer here?" she asked him.
"I will text him and inform him about it, I’m sure he will understand. He wouldn’t want his girlfriend to be alone on an empty street, now would he?" said Jake, his words beginning to make sense to Monica.
"But..."
"See the time? It’s 11:20 pm, it’s already late", he urged her and he revealed the screen of his phone for her.
Throwing the warning from Felix behind her, she released a sigh before carrying her bag and getting out of the car. She tried to open her phone but unfortunately, the battery had completely died.
"Let’s go?"
"Sure, but can you text him now? I don’t want him to be more worried than he already is", she said and Jake nodded.
He typed some words on the screen and sent a message before saying, "See, I’ve already done it", making a sigh in relief.
"Alright, let’s go", she said as she locked the car and waited for Jake to move first.
Staring with a grin, he started walking towards his car that was parked behind her and opened the passenger’s door like a gentleman.
Monica got into the car and so did Jake, in less than 10 seconds, they were already on the road.
Monica rubbed her hands together, hoping to get him quickly so that she could be away from Jake but it was going to be a long ride. Jake noticed her actions and asked,
"Are you feeling cold? Should I turn down the AC?" he asked her and she responded by shaking her head. "Then why are you rubbing your hands together?"
"No reason", she answered, trying to keep their conversation as small as possible.
Monica hadn’t told Jake where to head but the latter took the road heading towards the Smith’s mansion before all of a sudden, he took a left instead of a right, making her almost spring up from her car seat.
"Where are we going? This isn’t the path that leads to the mansion", she said as her body felt the movement of the cat increase.
"Oh, that? We are heading to my apartment", he replied as he wore a sinister smile on his lips.
"What do you mean by your apartment?" she questioned him but Jake kept quiet, without answering her questions.
Quickly, she tried to turn on her phone but its battery was completely dead. With eyes filled with panic, Monica stared at Jake and mumbled,
"Please take me back home, Jake".
"We are going home, sweetie. I’m sure that by the time we are done, Felix won’t accept you anymore", he said. His voice held a lot of spite and hatred when he called out Felix’s name.
"Done with what?" Monica asked.
"Don’t worry about that, you will see when we get to my apartment", he replied.
Feeling regretful for having turned deaf ears to Felix’s warning, Monica wanted to slap herself hard on both cheeks. She watched as they drove further and further away from her apartment, the smith’s mansion, and from Felix, who was already on his way.
"But why are you doing this?" she asked him.
"Why? It’s because you never listen. You only want to be hurt twice by some jerk and am trying to protect you, now am I wrong for doing that?" he asked her. "After I comforted you and told you so many times that Felix is only going to hurt your feelings, you still want to be with him and not with me! Why is that?! Am I not worthy of your love?!" he demanded, his loud voice causing goosebumps to appear on Monica’s skin.
Gulping down her saliva, she uttered,
"But you know that I love Felix right and also, I also appreciate all that you have done for me, Jake but you are not the one my heart beats for."
"Does that mean you were only using me when you agreed to date me so that you could play with my feelings?" he questioned and she shook her head, vigorously.
"No, it’s not that", she held back the tears that were about to fall from her eyes. "But you were right when you said that you are not a bad person, remember Jake?"
Jake scoffed, "Too bad I don’t care if you think am done or not but tonight, I will make you mine and Felix will feel disgusted to be with you ever again", he revealed as he stepped on the accelerator and the speed increased even more.
Unsure of what her next movements should be, Monica stared at the car door and wondered if she could quickly unlock it and escape before he got to his destination.
With that thought, she sneakily reached for the door but Jake pulled her hand back.
"Try it and you will be squashed like a marched potato", he threatened.
