Chapter 281: Ch 281: A Word of Advice
Rin was heading back to his room when he heard a sudden noise in the air that made him feel like his head was being split open.
He clutched his head to manage the pain, but it was too much. He felt dizzy and grabbed the wall to stop himself from falling.
"Just what is this noise? It hurts so much. Ugh, it feels like something is hammering away at my head, trying to get inside."
Rin had never felt pain like this in his life before, so he did not know how to deal with it. But he did know that everything would be fine if he somehow knocked himself unconscious.
Currently, the pain was making it impossible for him to think straight, and that was why he decided to bang his head against the wall—to try and knock himself unconscious. He did not even have enough presence of mind to use the system to do it.
Banging his head against the wall was a different kind of pain, and this one felt a little soothing in comparison. He did it a few times before he noticed that he had company.
His eyes made out the shape of a person in front of him, and he watched as they looked alarmed before running toward him.
"Hey! Are you alright? Rin, what are you doing? Stop hitting your head against the wall or you’ll hurt yourself."
The voice was gentle and pleaded with Rin to stop hurting himself. He wanted to take that advice, but it felt like he could not even properly understand what the person was saying to him.
’W-Who are you? P-Pink hair?’
Rin opened his eyes to see pink hair in front of him, and he wanted to reach out to them. But when he did, he was unable to grab anything.
His vision cleared a little, and he realized that he had mistaken Reina’s highlights for Shelly’s pink hair. How he had hallucinated so badly, even he was not sure. But he did know that he wanted to see Shelly again.
Reina looked shocked to see his state, and she lost her composure as well. She looked troubled, and her eyes kept scanning him up and down, wondering what she should do.
"S-Shelly!"
Rin reached out, wanting to touch the person in front of him, and that finally made Reina move.
"Hey, I don’t think you’re in the right state of mind right now. I’m going to knock you out, alright? Just don’t hold it against me."
Reina told him, and relief filled Rin’s body as his consciousness finally faded.
Now that he was unconscious, he would not have to think about what had happened anymore.
...
’Where am I...? What happened? The last thing I remember is the pain...and being knocked out.’
Rin let out a groan as he forced his body to sit up. It felt like pins and needles were stabbing him as he tried to move, but he knew that he needed to wake himself up.
He looked around and immediately noticed that he was in the medical wing. And Reina was sleeping beside him, looking uncomfortable.
He reached out to touch her lightly, but that was enough to wake Reina up. She shot upright with a gasp and looked at him with a shocked expression.
"Reina, are you alri—"
"Here, let me check on you. How do you feel now? Can you recognize me? Do you feel dizzy?"
Reina looked frightened as she ran test after test on him. Rin had a feeling he should not ask her what had happened, or she would only make him feel guilty.
Finally, Reina finished examining him, and her body sagged in relief. She looked much better than she had a few moments ago, and some color returned to her face.
"Thank God you’re alright. I thought you were a goner for sure. What happened? You were hitting your head against a wall when I found you."
Reina asked, and Rin did not know how to answer her.
He did not want to tell her that he had lost control and behaved like that. That would only make her worry even more.
But he also could not tell her that it had been a one-time thing. He had a feeling that Reina would never accept that excuse.
So he decided to mix some truth with some lies.
"I am fine. The system gave me a headache, and I ended up behaving like that. It won’t happen again, so there is no need to worry. I would appreciate it if you kept what happened here to yourself. There is no need to worry everyone else."
Rin gave Reina a smile, which made her sigh.
She did not agree with him, but she was not willing to argue either.
"Alright, I’ll take your word for it this time. But I want you to get a full check-up if this happens again."
Rin nodded to show that he was willing to comply with Reina. He even wanted to tell her that this would never happen again.
But he could not guarantee that.
For some reason, his instincts told him that this could—and would—happen again soon. And next time, he needed to make sure he was away from everyone else so that he would not worry them.
"I’ll make sure to come to you if I feel sick again, Reina. I’ll take my leave now."
Rin told her as he stepped out of the medical wing.
He was awake one moment, and the next he blanked out.
By the time he opened his eyes and looked around, he had no idea where he had ended up. His head was hurting, and he had a feeling that the system had taken liberties while it had control of his body.
Sigh.
"This is no good. This happened far too soon for me to feel comfortable with it. Just how much time do I have before this becomes a regular occurrence?"
Unfortunately, Rin had a feeling that he did not have much time left before the system completely took over his life.
