Chapter 256: Ch 256: Birth of a new Calamity - Part 2
"This is not right. I-I cannot lose my beloved like this. I know! This is all a dream! A simulation. I can start again."
Karina muttered as 70% of her body fused with her beloved. She still looked unaware of reality and what she was going through.
Her murmurs were getting louder by the second, and Rin quickly dragged Kyle out of the room just in time for a loud explosion to break down the door.
An insane aura instantly started to press down on the pair outside, stopping them from being able to walk away.
"What an insane aura. I have never felt anything like this before."
Kyle muttered as he tried his best to regain his composure. Compared to him, Rin was in much better condition because he had the system and knew what was going to happen.
[Congratulations. A new calamity has been born. Please proceed to eliminate it and regain the core within.]
The system told Rin, but he was not paying attention to it. And even if he had been paying attention to it, the question he had would not change.
’How...am I supposed to kill such a beast and regain the core from inside? Does the system think it is that easy for me to take this thing down?’
The calamity noticed Rin and immediately tried to attack him. But he managed to form a wall between himself and the attack.
The ice shattered in an instant, lessening the impact of the attack but not stopping it completely.
"Darn it! Get out of the way."
Kyle pushed Rin out of harm’s way, but even he was not able to fully block the calamity’s attack.
"This place is draining my power. There is some kind of territory effect here that is making me feel weaker than I actually am. We will need to drag the calamity out of the source of its territory."
Kyle pointed out, and Rin quickly glanced at the system screen where the calamity’s information was displayed.
[Calamity: The Grief and Terror of the Lost One
Special characteristics: Can form a territory around itself that boosts its attack power by 100% and reduces all other attack power by 200%.
The territory moves with the main body, and the only way to break it is to destroy the core inside.
Note: The territory has a 10-minute expiration window every hour. Take advantage of it to ensure the calamity is brought down.]
The system explained the strengths and weaknesses of the calamity in detail. And now, Rin needed to wait for the territory to expire...
’As if I have time to do something like that. Both Kyle and I would get killed long before this territory expires.’
Rin bit his bottom lip as he watched Kyle struggling. He needed to tell the other what he had just read on the screen.
"Kyle, the territory will expire for about 10 minutes sometime within the hour. But I don’t think we can hold on for that long."
The younger hunter nodded in understanding before he jumped back from the calamity’s attack.
"We should try and waste as much time as we can by taking this calamity on a wild goose chase. Let’s run through the lab. Make sure to go through tight spaces so it won’t be able to follow."
Kyle advised, and Rin nodded before he started running through the lab building.

He was not paying attention to where he was going because his sole objective was to get away from the calamity. That was why he was surprised when he ran into Teressa.
"Rin, what are you doing here? Anyway, check these flowers out. They are a rare species that is hard to find-"
Rin grabbed her arm and made her run after him.
"We don’t have time for this right now. No matter what happens, do not stop running, alright?"
His actions took Teressa by surprise, and she had a hard time keeping up with him initially.
"What’s wrong? You look like you are in a panic. What are we running away from here-?"
Teressa questioned, only to get her answer seconds later as the calamity came into view. The pressure instantly started to pile up around her, making it hard to breathe.
"W-What is that thing?"
Teressa asked, and Rin felt compelled to answer her.
"That...is a calamity. And if we get caught, we will likely end up becoming a source of its power."
Rin pointed out, and Teressa gulped nervously.
"I-I see. That would be a tragedy indeed. Let’s hope things do not come down to that."
She whispered as she followed him.
There was no destination in Rin’s mind. All he knew was the fact that he needed to stall the calamity somehow.
[Rookie, this looks like a dangerous task. Do you need help? If not, I can also give you some advice.]
The system finally showed itself, and Rin let out a sigh of relief.
’Where the heck were you until now? Do you have any idea what I have been through?’
He questioned, and the system immediately apologized to him.
[I am sorry, Rookie. The system got a little busy due to the closing season. I needed to tie up some loose ends before I could help you out. Hmm, I see that the situation is not looking good. Then, should I tell you what you should do?]
The system asked, and Rin immediately nodded.
’Just hurry up and tell me what I need to do. I don’t think I can keep running away forever like this.’
Rin snapped, and the system decided to humor him.
[The way to defeat this calamity is to sacrifice someone to it. Listen to me before you dismiss my suggestion and try to find another way.]
Rin felt his head ache at the neutral tone the system used with him. Did it seriously believe Rin would agree to sacrifice someone from his party just because that was the easiest way out?
[I am afraid that it is not the easiest way, but the only way you will be able to defeat the calamity. Someone will have to approach the core from the inside and cut it out. But that someone will have to be strong enough to pull it off. So, does anyone come to mind?]
