Chapter 250: Ch 250: Your Rights are Mine

Rin tried to pay attention to his surroundings, but Shelly’s reaction kept worrying him. She looked distracted, and she did not even insist on coming with him...

Not that it was anything too out of the ordinary. Shelly had her own free will and all.

But it worried Rin a lot more than he expected.

"Should I head back and find Shelly? I have a feeling I should talk to her about what is going on with her."

Rin questioned himself, but his feet continued to take him deeper and deeper into the facility. He was not sure where he was going, but he quickly sensed another presence not too far away from him.

He tensed up and immediately clutched a bomb in his hand before trying to sneak up on his target and take them by surprise.

Or that had been the plan until he turned the corner, only to run into Reina. Reina looked startled by his sudden appearance as well, and she managed to hold herself back from attacking him, her eyes wide with surprise.

"Rin, what are you doing here?"

Reina asked, and Rin managed to catch the bomb in time before throwing it. He grabbed Reina’s head and pushed it toward his chest so that she would not be affected by the bomb’s smoke.

’That was a close one. I almost knocked Reina out. I need to be a little more attentive to my surroundings.’

Rin remained like that—with Reina’s head pressed against his chest—for a few more seconds before allowing her to pull away.

Reina looked startled, but she understood the situation as soon as she looked up. Her eyes held pity for Rin, but she did not try to tell him that everything was alright.

Instead, she apologized for startling him.

"Ah, thanks for pulling back in time. I was looking around, and I did not realize I would startle you. But it’s weird how I ended up here despite coming in after you. Do you think something weird is going on?"

Reina asked, and Rin’s brain finally made him realize just how strange it was for Reina to appear from the next corridor when she should have been behind him.

"Did you enter any doors or turn into any corridors?"

Rin asked, and Reina immediately started to think.

"I don’t think I took any unnecessary turns. I just followed a straight path and turned whenever there was no longer a straight path available. But I did not have any choice regarding where I should turn."

Reina confessed, and Rin felt surprised by her words.

It was clear that this place was not normal. Unlike Reina, who only had one road to follow, Rin had encountered too many branching paths.

Him ending up here was also a coincidence.

"I think we should travel together from here on. Something weird must be going on here."

Rin told her, and Reina nodded before grabbing his hand and following after him.

He kept walking with her until he felt someone tugging at his arm and stopping him. He looked behind him, only to see Reina’s worried expression.

"Reina, is everything alright? Why are you stopping me from entering the next corridor?"

He asked, and Reina kept biting her lip while looking at the next corridor.

"Rin, can you see a path? Because all I’m seeing is a wall. Are you sure it is safe for us to enter that place?"

Reina asked, and it did not seem as if she was lying. Rin looked into her eyes and saw a wall reflected in them.

But when he moved his hand, he saw that he could enter the next corridor.

"I don’t think there should be a problem here. I can still enter the next corridor... Unless..."

Rin grabbed Reina’s hand, and she let out a yelp of protest before he tried to force it through the corridor.

But her hand collided with the wall, stopping her.

"I don’t think I can enter from here. Instead, I’ll have to take the left corridor..."

Reina bit her lip while looking to her left, but it was Rin’s turn to see a dead end.

It was clear to him that both he and Reina were seeing different corridors at the moment, which was not a good sign.

"This is..."

"Not a good sign. It seems like something strange is going on. It looks like we will have to split up again."

Rin pointed out, and Reina tightened her grip on his hand. She seemed reluctant to part with him, but she also knew that she could not stay with him for much longer.

"Alright. Let’s part ways here. But make sure you contact me through the system if anything happens. I will try to find my way to you, no matter what."

It felt reassuring to hear Reina say that. Rin nodded at her words before leaving her behind. Then he took a deep breath and entered the next corridor.

A chilling feeling took over his body as he walked deeper and deeper into the facility. He also had a feeling that he would not see anyone else in here.

And yet, his feet refused to stop and let him rest.

Rin walked through another two corridors before he sensed another presence. So he followed it, only to encounter a humanoid creature.

It was rotting from the inside, with its skin barely clinging to its bones and its hollow eyes looking at Rin with a hunger he had never seen before.

He had never seen anything like it, but Rin’s instincts screamed that something was wrong and that he needed to run.

So Rin tried to hide and escape, but the humanoid was faster than he expected.

It lunged toward him, and Rin managed to block it with a wall of ice at the last second. The melting human tried to get past that wall, but ultimately ended up exploding all over the ice.

Rin felt his heart beating faster and faster in his chest because of what had just happened. He felt dazed and finally dared to ask the question.

"W-What just happened here?"
