Chapter 249: Ch 249: Reaching the Facility

"Ugh, there is so much dust covering this whole place. There is no way I can put my beloved here like this. It seems like I will have to clean this place up a bit."

Karina made an annoyed face as she looked at the surface of her lab.

She had never thought she could come back here, but she finally had the tools needed to see this experiment through. And she could not wait to see her beloved again after so long.

And she was willing to do anything to make that happen.

Cleaning up took her some time since she was no longer used to it. But she could not risk asking for help from someone else either.

So it was up to her to take care of the mess that had been left behind due to neglect.

Thankfully, she had the system’s help and was able to clean the place up quickly. Then she put her beloved on the table and started the experiment.

The system guided her movements, and she followed its instructions. And after two full days of preparations, it was finally time.

She would get to reunite with her beloved.

"With this single drop, you will open your eyes to me, and I will be able to hear you talk again. Now, please show me your true face."

Karina let out a small sob of relief as she prepared the potion in her hand and tilted the liquid to wake her beloved up.

The man on the table tried to open his eyes, and Karina looked at him with a wonder-filled look on her face.

She was sure that her beloved was coming back to her.

But all her happiness came crashing down once she saw that her beloved was not looking at her, but at the empty space behind her. She doubted he could even see anything at the moment.

Still, she was hopeful that maybe he could recognize her a little.

"Beloved, I am here for you. Do you remember me? I am Karina. Can you hear me?"

Slow-blinking eyes looked at her with a detached expression. The man lying in front of her did not recognize her.

But he had opened his eyes, so it should be enough for her...

’But it is not enough! I need him to be conscious and talk to me. This is not the one I wanted back. What do I do now?’

Karina questioned, and her unhappiness made her frown.

She was about to make a drastic decision when she got a sudden call from Molly.

"My dear Karina, how did the experiment go? Were you successful? Hmm, judging from your tone, it is clear that not everything went according to plan."

Karina did not speak, but her temper was starting to flare.

There was only so much she could endure before she broke.

Luckily for Molly, she knew exactly what she needed to say to get Karina under her control.

"You are lucky, Karina. I checked on your beloved and found out what was wrong. I also found out how you saved him. Are you interested in knowing?"

Molly asked, and Karina knew that this was a trap. The correct thing for her to do would be to pretend she did not hear that offer and go about her business.

But she could not do that. Her beloved was waiting for her to help him.

"What are you offering, Molly?"

Karina asked in a tense voice, and Molly decided to answer her.

"What I am offering you is simple. I just want your authority over the system. In return, I will give you a gift."

Molly proposed, and Karina knew that handing over her system rights was a huge price to pay. Any sane person would not have even entertained this idea before telling Molly that she had gone mad.

But Karina was different.

Nothing else mattered to her in this world except her beloved. And as long as she could take care of him and save him... nothing else mattered.

"I agree to your terms. So tell me—how can I save my beloved?"

She asked, and Molly smiled at the deal they had made.

"The solution is simple—your beloved needs a heart. And don’t go taking your own. He needs a special heart that can process a lot of mana and is compatible with him. Currently, I can only think of one person with such a match, and that is your daughter."

What Molly was implying was clear—she wanted Karina to kill her daughter and then make use of her heart for her beloved’s sake.

No sane mother would even entertain this idea, much less carry it out.

But Karina let out a chuckle that quickly turned into a joyous laugh.

"Oh! I see! In the end, that experiment of mine did come in handy after all. I would have given birth to a few more if I knew this was going to happen."

Karina confessed, but she quickly sobered up.

"I guess it’s time for me to pay a visit to my daughter—"

"About that... I have another gift for you. So please enjoy it. And remember, from today onward, your rights over the system are mine."

Karina nodded to show that she understood what Molly was saying.

Without control over the system, Karina would be no better than a regular human. But she was willing to take that chance.

"You can have my system rights, but only after I give my beloved his heart back. Don’t worry, it won’t take long either. Give me a few hours at most."

Molly did not seem happy that her reward was being withheld.

"This is not fair. We had a deal... but I guess I am not completely unaware of your situation, so I can make an exception for you. I will allow you to keep your rights for the next six hours. But once that time is up, your rights are mine."

Molly told Karina, and Karina nodded to show that she understood.

"Alright, we have a deal now. I will talk to you once my experiment succeeds. Do not call me until then because I will not answer."
