Chapter 234: Ch 234: Unexpected company

Mira greeted Rin cheerfully from where she hung upside down from the ceiling. She snapped her fingers, and all the zombies around her collapsed, their skulls cracking open as they hit the ground.

The girl in question did not seem to care about what she had done. She landed lightly on her feet before skipping over to Rin and grabbing his shoulder.

"You cannot imagine how happy I am to see another human in here with me. I was trapped with these ugly things for so long that I felt like I was about to lose my mind. Hurry, give me a hug so that I can regain some human warmth."

Mira opened her arms for Rin to hug her, but Rin stepped back from her advances and even shot her a disgusted look.

His reaction made Mira pout in mock anger, and she huffed to show that she was unhappy with his decision.

"This isn’t fair! My feelings can get hurt too. Why are you acting as if I have some kind of disease you need to run away from?"

Mira complained, and Rin immediately looked around to pretend he had not noticed her displeasure.

"It’s nothing like that. Since we are in a task dungeon right now, I think it would be better to keep some distance so that we can remain vigilant of our surroundings."

Rin made up some nonsense, and Mira seemed to believe his words.

"Hmm, you are right! Fine! I won’t take offense to your actions this time. So, what is your plan from here?"

Mira asked, and Rin debated whether he should team up with her or not.

Frankly, he knew nothing about Mira other than the fact that she had been an experiment and hated those responsible enough to seek vengeance.

At this point, she felt more like an enemy, but Rin could not deny her talent.

"For now, we should move together and find our companions. Once we gather a few more people, we can take down the main boss and finish this task."

Rin pointed out as he looked at the system screen. It had not disappeared like last time, which made him let out a sigh of relief.

"How do we find our companions? Do you have a way to make this search easier?"

Mira asked, and Rin debated whether he wanted to tell her or not. In the end, he decided not to hide his abilities for now.

"The system can pinpoint the locations of other people and even monsters for me. We can follow its guidance to find our comrades."

Rin told her carefully. He was ready to react if Mira did anything suspicious.

But she only let out a hum of appreciation and even looked interested in Rin’s system.

"Oh! The system can do that as well? It looks rather useful. It gives you inventory space to store things, and it can even provide maps to help you navigate. I am almost jealous of how convenient the system makes things for all of you."

Mira spoke softly, a wistful look appearing on her face.

Rin had no idea how he was supposed to interpret her words. Was she jealous of him? Or was Mira warming up to the idea of the system? Didn’t she hate it?

Mira noticed his look of confusion and quickly clarified her stance.

"It’s not that I hate the system, but the people behind this situation. One day, I will sink my claws into all those bastards and make them regret their decision to throw us away."

Her tone changed completely. She had sounded bubbly and cheerful seconds ago, but now Mira sounded ready to commit murder.

A moment later, Mira calmed down and turned to face him with a smile.

"You don’t need to worry about me. I promise I won’t forsake you just because you use the system. None of us hate it, but we chose not to use it as a sign of defiance against those higher-ups and scientists."

Mira tried to make things clearer for Rin, but he only ended up with more questions.

Ultimately, he decided not to question her further and led the way toward the others.

The next person they encountered was Shelly, trapped by some kind of binding ability Rin had never seen before.

Thankfully, breaking the restraints turned out to be easy for him. He simply froze the bonds before shattering them.

"Shelly, are you alright?"

Rin asked, and she nodded with a ashamed look on her face. Whatever had happened seemed to have affected her more deeply than expected.

"I am fine... but what are you doing with her?"

Shelly questioned as she pointed toward Mira with a blank expression. It was difficult to tell what that look meant, but Mira decided to have some fun.

She grabbed Rin’s arm and pulled it toward her bosom, a small blush appearing on her face.

"Ah, what do we do, darling? We got caught! I guess we have no choice but to explain our situation, right? We need to let the world know what we are to each other."

Mira pulled him even closer, and Rin started to feel uncomfortable.

He had nothing against Mira and could even admit that she was beautiful. But she was not someone he found attractive.

Instead, being around her felt oddly similar to being around a sibling, likely because they shared part of the same DNA.

"Hey, let go of Rin! Can’t you see that he looks uncomfortable with you holding his arm so tightly?"

Shelly pointed out as she yanked Rin out of Mira’s grip.

Mira did not protest and released his arm with a pout.

"This isn’t fair! Rin, tell her that you don’t feel uncomfortable when I grab you!"

Mira demanded with a pout, stomping her foot, but Rin chose to remain neutral and not say anything.

It was as good as admitting that he had been uncomfortable all along, and Mira let out a gasp of betrayal.

"I-I will never forget this betrayal from both of you! I will make sure to tell the whole world how cruel you were to me..."

Mira fake-sobbed, but Rin did not even have the energy to comfort her. He could only sigh and shake his head at her performance.
