Chapter 444: 444 Resident Evil 4

"I’m so relieved. I can finally relax now."

"But what about Richard? Is he injured?"

"Richard seems to have been bitten by a highly venomous snake. But the bite mark is huge."

Then Richard spoke in a terrified voice.

"It wasn’t an ordinary snake. Don’t take my words lightly. I thought I’d encountered an ancient monster."

Jill then asked, "So what do we do?"

Rebecca explained, "Richard needs antiserum to be treated. But I dropped the antiserum in another room while fleeing from the monsters. I was about to go back for it when I ran into you all."

"Then Jill, stay here and protect them. I’ll go get the antiserum."

"Okay."

After getting detailed directions from Rebecca, I headed to the location.

Since I had already dealt with most of the zombies on the way here, moving was easy.

Unlike the original game, the zombies I had taken down didn’t get back up, so I was able to retrieve the antiserum without any trouble.

I grabbed the antiserum and immediately returned to where Rebecca, Jill, and Richard were.

"Wow, that was fast."

"Richard?"

Richard answered for himself, "Still alive."

I handed the antiserum to Rebecca, who took a disposable syringe from her medical bag and administered it to Richard.

"Thanks, Jin, Jill, and Rebecca."

Richard said that and then lost consciousness, the tension finally releasing.

"It’s dangerous to stay here like this. Jill and I found a small storage room while searching the mansion. Let’s move there. It’s safer than here."

"Okay."

We moved Richard to the storage room as I suggested.

After that, I took out some food from my backpack and handed it to Rebecca.

"You haven’t eaten since yesterday, right? So I brought this."

"Yes, I haven’t eaten anything since yesterday. I thought I was going to starve to death, so I’m really relieved."

Rebecca took the food, sat down, and started eating eagerly.

She must have been very hungry.

"You brought that too?"

When Jill asked, I made a vague excuse.

"Yeah. In case we got isolated, I brought only compact items."

"You’re thoroughly prepared. Speaking of which, I’m thirsty too. Anything to drink?"

"Of course."

While Rebecca ate, we also sat and rested, quenching our thirst.

"Phew... I’m glad we found survivors."

"Yeah."

"But where did the rest of Alpha Team go?"

"There were a few buildings behind the mansion. Maybe they’re searching those."

"Could be."

I was genuinely curious too.

Right now, it seemed like Chris’s and Jill’s routes were mixed, so I had no idea what Chris was doing.

"Phew... I ate well. I’ll save the rest of the food for when Richard wakes up."

"Yeah. We’ll go look for more survivors. Stay here with Richard if possible. It’ll be easier to meet up that way."

"Okay."

Leaving them behind, we started searching the mansion again.

After walking in silence for a while, Jill suddenly spoke.

"Jin."

"Hm?"

"About you... what’s your relationship with Rebecca?"

I looked at Jill with a puzzled expression.

"What do you mean? We just say hello when we run into each other."

Jill asked again, frowning.

"It didn’t look like that when she ran up and hugged you."

"No, it’s really nothing. Why are you asking? Don’t tell me... you’re interested in me?"

Jill’s face flushed red, and she quickly cut me off.

"Don’t say stupid things! I was just curious."

I chuckled at Jill’s reaction.

"Come on, don’t pretend. I’m pretty interested in you. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to take this chance to become more than just colleagues. Of course, we’ll have to survive this place first."

"..."

When I pushed her like that, Jill’s face turned bright red, and she couldn’t say anything.

Her usual easygoing and confident demeanor was gone, replaced by her averting her gaze and clearing her throat.

’Her flustered side is cute.’

Anyway, we resumed our search and eventually arrived at the main hall.

We found Chris unconscious, with Joseph supporting him.

We hurried over to them.

"Chris, Joseph! What happened!?"

"Chris was bitten by a huge snake. He needs an antidote. This is bad."

It was that giant snake again.

I immediately put Chris on my shoulder.

"We found Rebecca. She has antiserum, so let’s head back."

"Okay."

We quickly retraced our steps and returned to Rebecca.

Rebecca immediately administered the antiserum to Chris.

"Chris was only bitten recently, so he’ll recover quickly."

"That’s a relief. But what the hell was that huge snake? I thought I was going to die. And we encountered another monster in a shack behind the mansion. No matter how much we shot it, it wouldn’t die. Damn, this place is insane."

The shack in the back was probably referring to Lisa Trevor.

I wondered where Chris had been, and it seemed he had gone there.

’Lisa is a truly pitiful figure.’

Lisa Trevor is the daughter of George Trevor, the architect who designed this mansion.

Umbrella kidnapped George Trevor and his entire family to maintain the mansion’s secrecy.

George Trevor tried desperately to escape the mansion but ultimately died without succeeding.

Lisa and her mother also attempted to escape but failed, and they were both made into Umbrella’s virus test subjects.

However, Lisa’s mother didn’t survive long, as she couldn’t adapt to the virus.

Lisa, on the other hand, miraculously survived, but that was just the beginning of her misery.

For over 20 years, she was used as a test subject for all kinds of virus experiments, completely robbed of her humanity.

Even more horrifying is that Lisa was only fourteen when she was first put on the experiment table.

This alone shows how inhumane Umbrella is.

But Lisa survived all those years, exposed to countless viruses, eventually developing an adaptability that exceeded all the researchers’ expectations.

As a result, she gained seemingly endless vitality and regenerative abilities.

Horrified, the researchers deemed the experiment uncontrollable and tried to dispose of her.

But every attempt failed.

Bullets and various experiments couldn’t kill her.

In the end, Lisa wandered the mansion and its surroundings, a being neither human nor monster.

Having lost her sanity, she wandered, searching for her mother, until she finally encountered S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team.

"Hmm... we need to take care of that snake first."

When I said that, Joseph exclaimed in surprise.

"What?! Didn’t you hear me? That snake can’t be caught!"

"No, we have to catch it. If it stays, there’ll be more victims. And we’re out of antiserum, aren’t we?"

Rebecca nodded in agreement.

"That’s right. We have no more antiserum. So if anyone else gets bitten, we won’t be able to save them."

"See? So it’s better to take it down safely."

Jill asked me, "How are we going to do it?"

"We have four shotguns here, plus the grenade launcher. It’d be stranger if we couldn’t catch it."

"True, after a grenade and four shotguns, nothing would survive. Alright, let’s do it."

When Jill agreed, Joseph let out a deep sigh.

"Hah... this is insane... Fine. But only after Chris wakes up."

Joseph dismissed Rebecca’s capabilities, but that was only because he didn’t know her.

Having gone through Resident Evil 0, Rebecca would fight better than anyone here except me.

"No. I’ll join you too."

"It’s too dangerous for a rookie to get involved."

"Don’t worry. I’ve dealt with plenty of monsters myself."

"I swear... I told you, it’s not an ordinary snake."

Joseph sighed in frustration, but Rebecca was probably the one most frustrated.

"Alright! Then just provide cover fire from behind. And don’t do anything reckless."

"Oh... okay."

With that decided, I took out shotgun shells from my backpack and distributed them to everyone.

Rebecca also took Richard’s assault shotgun and loaded it.

In case Chris woke up, we left a note, locked the room, and moved to the location where the monster snake had been found.

Slither...

"I can hear it. It’s still inside. Everyone ready?"

I pressed my ear to the door of the room where Chris had been bitten and listened.

Hearing something slithering, I confirmed the snake was there and quietly told the others.

Jill, Rebecca, and Joseph nodded silently.

Confirming everyone was ready, I kicked the door open and started firing the Origin shotgun at the giant snake in front of me.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!!!

Kyaaah!

Meanwhile, the others who had been waiting behind also rushed in and provided fire support.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!!!

Unable to endure any longer, the monster snake opened its mouth wide to strike me, but I immediately raised the grenade launcher and fired into its mouth.

Boom!!!

Kyaaaaaaah!!!

A large explosion occurred, and the snake’s mouth was blown to pieces, but it still hadn’t fallen, so we increased our firepower.

Click, bang! Click, bang!

"Just die already!!!"

After firing for a while, the giant snake finally collapsed.

Its head had been shredded by so many shotgun blasts that it seemed unlikely to get back up like in the original.

"Phew... we got it. I’m glad no one got hurt."

"Yeah, thank goodness. Let’s go back."

We returned to the room where Richard and Chris were.

Chris was awake and resting.

"You’re all back. I saw the note. Did you catch that monster snake?"

Chris asked, and Joseph proudly answered.

"Of course, we turned it into a rag. You don’t have to worry about snakes anymore."

"That’s a relief."

Chris let out a relieved sigh, but Jill and Rebecca looked at Joseph incredulously.

I felt the same.

Just moments ago, he had been trembling with fear, and now he was acting as if he had done everything himself.

It was so absurd I couldn’t help but laugh.

We reloaded our magazines and rested for a while.

We had used over half the ammunition in my backpack.

I couldn’t imagine how we would have fared without the ammunition I had brought.

During the rest, Richard, who had been unconscious, also woke up.

"Where is this..."

"You’re awake! We’re still in the mansion, but this place is safe. And we caught that monster snake."

"That’s a relief. Good news."

Then Jill stood up and said, "So, we just need to keep searching for Bravo Team?"

Rebecca said with sad eyes, "Edward Dewey of Bravo Team is already dead. I saw it myself."

"Really? That’s sad. So the only one left is Captain Enrico?"

Chris asked in confusion, "Wait, why is Captain Enrico the only one left?"

"Jin and I confirmed the bodies of Bravo Team’s Kenneth J. Sullivan and Forest Speyer."

Chris seemed shocked by that.

"I see... that’s how it was. They were both good friends... But where are Captain Wesker and Barry?"

"I’m not sure. Didn’t they go to investigate the building behind the mansion?"

"We only checked the small shack in the back. We were chased back here by a monster that bullets wouldn’t work on. If you’ve searched this entire mansion, they might be in another building we haven’t checked."

"Then the goal is set. Let’s go investigate the remaining buildings."

From then on, we decided to move together.

After witnessing those monsters, splitting up was too dangerous.

Since we didn’t know what other monsters might appear, sticking together was much safer than spreading out.

"Damn, I’m hungry... I never imagined I’d go two days without food and suffer like this."

While moving, Richard clutched his stomach and said that.

Rebecca, walking next to him, handed him the chocolate bar and hot bar she had saved.

"Here, eat this."

"Oh~ you’re an angel!?"

"Jin gave it to me. I already ate."

"Rebecca is my angel!"

Even when Rebecca said that, the guy seemed to see only an angel with wings.

"We can’t go this way. The indestructible monster we met was in a shack at the end of this path."

Chris warned, so we took a different route.

"The door is blocked. It looks like you need to insert something into a device..."

Joseph said, and Jill looked at me.

"Master key, go!"

"Yes, yes. Stand back."

Joseph stepped aside and asked, "Huh? What are you doing?"

"You’ll see."

I shot the door lock with the Origin shotgun.

Bang! Creak!

With a loud noise, the door swung open.

Joseph’s eyes widened in surprise.

"Oh... why didn’t I think of that?"

The funny thing was, Chris also looked quite shocked.

Then he let out a hollow laugh and muttered while looking up at the ceiling.

"All that time I spent searching the mansion for keys... What have I been doing all this time..."

It seemed his past hours of searching the mansion for a key suddenly felt futile.

Chris let out a deep sigh, unable to shake off the look of being dazed for a while.
