Chapter 442: 442 Resident Evil 2
Just then, Jill sighed and said.
"Honestly... men..."
The men teased her.
"Ah, speaking of which, we do have one scary noona on our side."
"Right, the legendary noona who’s pretty but too scary to approach."
Jill frowned.
"Are you talking about me now?"
"Can’t say we’re not."
"You guys are really asking for it!"
Jill slammed the table in anger, and everyone covered their mouths, snickering.
"Ah, I wish we had an innocent female member on our side too."
"Yeah, yeah."

Jill couldn’t contain her anger and stood up to do something, but just then the pizza arrived, so she couldn’t.
"I’ll deal with you guys later."
"Whoa... scary. Anyway, let’s eat the pizza."
The S.T.A.R.S. members were actually quite pleasant people.
It seemed like it would be a workplace worth working at, with colleagues like these.
I imagine that one of the main reasons Chris and Jill pursued Wesker and Umbrella so relentlessly later was because they had lost such cheerful and precious colleagues to them.
We finished our pizza and returned to the office.
Of course, I paid as promised.
"Barry, can I take a look at your guns?"
"Want to get yours customized too? Just say the word, I’ll help you out."
As soon as we returned, we started cleaning and maintaining our firearms.
I took the opportunity to covertly duplicate Barry’s custom guns using [Matter Copy].
Barry, being a weapons expert, had heavily modified his guns to the point where they were practically different firearms altogether.
He was skilled at customizing, so his guns were durable and performed excellently.
Since these were guns I had often used in the original games, I wanted to collect them in advance.
"Is that Magnum revolver customized too?"
"Of course. I precision-machined the cylinder to minimize gas leakage. That improved the power too."
"Impressive. I’ll have to visit a gun shop and get some custom work done later."
I felt a little bad for Barry, but I had already secretly duplicated them, so I had no intention of paying for custom work.
These guns were purely for collection; I had already prepared the firearms I would use.
Still, I did plan to visit a gun shop.
Right now, I only had NATO rounds from the Dawn of the Dead world, so I needed to buy shotgun shells and Magnum rounds suitable for the Resident Evil universe.
"Good idea. For people like us, good gun performance is essential. I’ll show you the blueprints I made when I customized my Samurai Edge. This part, you see..."
Barry enthusiastically began explaining in detail how he had heavily modified his Samurai Edge.
It was a bit tedious, but I listened patiently, considering it payment for the guns.
Several days passed after that.
The work at S.T.A.R.S. was actually not that busy.
It wasn’t as if major incidents requiring the deployment of a special tactical unit happened every day, so that was only natural.
Most of the time was spent on training or equipment checks, with occasional VIP protection duties.
In the meantime, I nearly finished modifying the tank, and my relationship with Jill began to change.
She started to see me as a rival.
Every time I performed well in training, her competitive spirit flared up.
"Ugh, I lost again..."
I tried to hold back, but I was worried she might take it as an insult, so I just let it be.
I also met Rebecca Chambers on the way to work.
"Hello, Jin."
"Yeah, nice to meet you."
I was a bit surprised when she greeted me cheerfully.
She had a surprisingly cute appearance, and maybe because of her hobby of basketball, her physique was also quite impressive.
I could see why the guys were interested.
"I don’t get to see the Alpha Team very often."
"Well, we train and stand by separately, so that’s probably why."
It seemed Rebecca knew me too.
"Are you adjusting well?"
"Yes, everyone’s been kind, so I’m adjusting fine."
"That’s good. Well, see you around."
"Okay. See you later."

As we finished our greetings and headed to our respective offices, she seemed a bit disappointed, though I might have been imagining it.
Since I was on Alpha Team, I couldn’t participate in Resident Evil 0 and couldn’t help Rebecca.
If the original story hadn’t changed, she would make it to the mansion safely, so I figured I could help her from then on.
’I’ve tried not to interfere with Bravo Team as much as possible, so as long as things stay like this, she shouldn’t die.’
And since the beginning of the original Resident Evil story was approaching, I drove to Kendo’s Gun Shop after work and bought a large quantity of shotgun shells and Magnum rounds.
"Whoa, thanks for buying so much, but did you get some kind of training exercise coming up? You really didn’t need to buy this much?"
Robert Kendo was friendly with the police, so he knew me too.
Thanks to that, I was able to buy a large amount of ammunition without raising suspicion.
Of course, the fact that he was surprised by the amount couldn’t be helped.
"I’ve been practicing a lot lately."
"Really? That’s good to hear. I’ll give you a discount."
I wasn’t sure if the discount was because of the [Discount] ability or because I was buying in bulk.
"Thanks for helping me load it."
"You bought this much, it’s only natural. Come again."
As I loaded the ammunition into my car and drove home, I suddenly thought of Robert Kendo’s daughter.
She too was a victim of the virus.
In the end, Robert couldn’t abandon his infected young daughter, and he didn’t escape Raccoon City, dying there.
That scene was depicted quite tragically in the original, and it was one of the moments that saddened me while playing the game.
’I should save them too... There’s a two-month window after the mansion incident, so I’ll think of a way then.’
A day after buying the ammunition, a report came in that mutilated bodies had been found in the Arklay Mountains.
The police officers dispatched to the scene also went missing one after another, so S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team was immediately deployed for search and rescue.
’July 23rd... so today is the day.’
It seemed Resident Evil 0 was finally starting.
One thing puzzled me, though: Bravo Team departed by helicopter at night, rather than during the day.
I didn’t understand why that decision was made, but it seemed like it could be a variable, so I didn’t ask.
The next day, with Bravo Team deployed, Alpha Team postponed their training schedule and waited in the office.
Then Wesker suddenly entered the office and addressed the waiting Alpha Team.
"We’ve lost contact with Bravo Team. Prepare for deployment and stand by."
At that, everyone put on their bulletproof vests, checked their firearms, and worried about Bravo Team.
"Did their communication equipment break down?"
"That can’t be... Richard was a pretty meticulous guy."
"But that’s the only explanation for why we can’t reach them."
"That’s true. What on earth happened?"
Then Chris asked me.
"Wow... Jin, isn’t that a bit excessive? I understand you’re an engineer, but..."
There was a reason Chris said that.
I was wearing a bulletproof vest, a military backpack full of water, chocolate bars, and ammunition.
On one side of the backpack was the Origin shotgun, on the other the backpack (sword), and in my dual shoulder holsters were the Mallorian Arms 3516 and the Yukimura.
In a chest holster was Barry’s .44 caliber revolver, and around my waist were various magazines.
Finally, I had a survival knife strapped to my shoulder—I was practically a walking arsenal.
"In case Bravo Team’s helicopter broke down, I brought a repair kit. That’s why."
"Th, is that so?"
"Yes."
In the original game, ammunition was plentiful and could be picked up, but I didn’t know how reality would turn out, so I had to prepare.
It couldn’t be helped if it looked excessive to others.
"Wow, that’s a cool gun. Can I take a look?"
Barry, being a gun otaku, admired my guns.
So I showed him the Origin shotgun.

"I wanted to have my own custom gun, so I commissioned it."
"I see. Wow... it’s amazing? A magazine-fed shotgun instead of a pump-action... what’s the rate of fire?"
"About 480 rounds per minute."
"Hmm... at that rate, you could take down an elephant. Isn’t that a bit overkill?"
"I don’t know, is it?"
"Huh? What did you say?"
"Ah, nothing."
"Show me the pistol too."
"Yeah."
This time, I showed him the Yukimura.
Barry was amazed.
"Wow, it’s a top-loading box magazine like the P90. That’s a good idea. How many rounds does it hold?"
"36."
"Impressive? Any feeding issues?"
"None, of course. I thought about everything when I made it."
"That’s an interesting piece. I’d love to try shooting it."
Barry fiddled with the Yukimura, clearly delighted.
It was like a child with a new toy.
Just then, Wesker entered the office.
"It seems something has happened to Bravo Team, so we’ll need to deploy. We’ve been trying to raise them on the radio, but there’s no response. Brad and Chris, go down and prepare the helicopter."
At that command, Brad and Chris hurried down to the helipad at the back of the police station.
"Everyone else, finish preparing and report to the helipad in 10 minutes."
With that, Wesker put on his bulletproof vest, grabbed his pistol and magazines, and headed down.
We also began heading down in order as we finished preparing.
I was the last to leave, for a reason.
I had something to pick up.
"Here it is."
It was the photo of Rebecca in her basketball uniform.
Since Wesker would never return to the police station, it didn’t matter if I took it.
"Hurry up, Jin!"
Because of that, I was a little late leaving, but I boarded the helicopter without raising any suspicion.
As soon as I boarded, the helicopter took off and headed for the Arklay Mountains, where contact with Bravo Team had been lost.
"Captain Wesker. Sorry to interrupt during the operation, but a beautiful woman was smitten with you before and asked for your autograph. I’ve been meaning to tell you, but you’re always so busy."
I said that, holding out a pen and paper, and the members were shocked.
"Wow, is spring finally coming for the Captain?"
"What a surprise? For our stoic Captain."
"Hmm... I think it’s possible. Honestly, the Captain is handsome."
"Captain, if you get a girlfriend, you have to treat us, right?"
The reason I could say this without any awkwardness was that S.T.A.R.S. was famous enough to be featured in local media, and with the recent addition of Rebecca Chambers, they were once again in the public eye.
A notable rookie, they said.
Wesker seemed a bit shy, scratching the back of his head, and signed the paper I handed him before giving it back to me.
He was surprisingly accommodating to such requests.
"By the way, why do you guys think I have to treat you if I get a girlfriend?"
"Well, it’s a celebratory occasion. Being single at your age would mean there’s something wrong."
"Yeah, yeah."
At that, Wesker sighed in disbelief.
I was inwardly rejoicing, regardless of their reactions.
What I had handed him was none other than the photo of Rebecca in her basketball uniform.

I had only made it look like an ordinary piece of paper using illusion.
And I even got Wesker’s autograph on it—this was an ultra-rare item that money couldn’t buy.
Any Resident Evil fan would be desperate to get their hands on this treasure.
’I’m glad I got it before Wesker left the S.T.A.R.S. team.’
Just then, Jill spotted something and told us.
"Everyone, look at that! There’s a crashed helicopter. It looks like Bravo Team’s."
Wesker also confirmed the helicopter and gave the order.
"Brad, find a suitable landing spot nearby."
"Got it, Captain."
Brad, the Alpha Team helicopter pilot, found a clearing without trees and landed.
"Brad, stay with the helicopter. The rest of you, investigate the discovered helicopter."
Following Wesker’s orders, we quickly grabbed our gear, disembarked, and moved toward the crashed Bravo Team helicopter, maintaining perimeter security.
