Chapter 416: 416 Warhammer 1

I didn’t plan to stay in the Warhammer universe for long. It was such a messed-up setting—full of bizarre gods and headache-inducing problems. So I decided to just drop in briefly to grab some abilities and get a taste of it, heading into Space Marine 2 to see Titus.

[Avatar being generated.]

Demetrian Titus

Age: 243

Gender: Male

Traits: A calm yet humanly warm leader, a fearless warrior.

Start Point: Original start point

Morven Vahl

Age: 47

Gender: Female

Traits: Abbess of the Adepta Sororitas. Appointed as a political puppet, but established herself as a powerful military leader.

Start Point: Original start point

Go as myself.

Settings: 25-year-old Psyker belonging to the Ultramarines.

Start Point: Original start point

"Wow... ’Morven Vahl’..."

Certainly, starting as Morven Vahl would allow me to command the entire Adepta Sororitas—the Battle Sisters—and gather all of them in one place to absorb their abilities all at once.

’If I did that, would all the Sisters who lost their mental fortitude be dragged off to the Sister Repentia?’

That would be amusing, but going as a female character didn’t appeal to me. Since I wanted to see Titus anyway, I chose ’Go as myself’ and adjusted the start point slightly.

Settings: 25-year-old Guardsman belonging to the Cadian 8th Regiment.

Start Point: Kadaku Defense

(Points: 0)

I chose to be a Guardsman for a simple reason: in the Warhammer universe, whether Space Marine, Psyker, or Tech-Priest, all humans undergo augmentation—but at least the lowest-ranking soldiers, the Guardsmen, were ordinary people who received little to no augmentation.

And the start point of Space Marine 2 was before Titus underwent the Rubicon Primaris surgery, when he was serving in the Deathwatch—the Chapter specialized in fighting xenos—under suspicion of heresy. I needed to adjust the settings slightly for a quicker progression.

[Proceed as is?]

"Yes."

The moment I confirmed, the air filled with the stench of gunpowder and burning flesh. Gunfire and artillery explosions echoed from all directions, thick smoke blanketing the battlefield. From the front, Tyranids—reminiscent of Zerg—were charging in like mad.

The uniform I was wearing was a dark green military outfit—it had clearly been worn so long that even I grimaced at my own sweat smell.

"Hey, Jin! Snap out of it! What are you doing!"

The others were busy firing from the trenches, and since I’d been idle while assessing the situation, a comrade next to me shouted to get my attention.

"I’m fine now—don’t worry!"

Not seeing any Space Marines nearby, I raised my lasgun and opened fire on the approaching Tyranids.

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!

What was interesting was that the weapon I was using wasn’t a chemical-propellant firearm, but a lasgun—a laser weapon. Ammunition was effectively infinite as long as the power pack wasn’t depleted, but since it required charging energy before firing, the rate of fire wasn’t great.

However, its power was considerable—stronger than modern ballistic rifles, with less recoil. The battery pack underneath was a bit heavy, but overall it was lightweight and well-balanced, making it easy to use.

The downside was that the gun itself was crude and ugly. And what I realized as I kept firing was that, despite its decent power, it couldn’t inflict fatal wounds on some Tyranid strains.

’Ah... with a few upgrades, this could be a really good weapon...’

I had complaints, but I couldn’t modify it here, so I just kept shooting. Besides, unauthorized modifications were punishable by summary execution. For now, I decided not to cause trouble until the Space Marines arrived—risking no reinforcements coming at all.

After holding the line for a while, the Tyranid attacks slowed, with only a few gaunt-like Hormagaunts charging in, and the front stabilized. An officer appeared and threw something to the Guardsmen, saying,

"The enemy could attack again at any time, so rations will be field rations! No complaints!"

I checked what was thrown: a sealed pouch resembling instant curry, stamped with the Imperial Aquila, labeled [Operational Field Ration – Fish Flavor].

"Whoo! Lucky! I got rodent flavor!"

My comrade next to me shouted, and a young Guardsman next to him asked,

"Why are you so happy about getting rodent flavor? They both taste like crap."

"Hah, don’t say that—you might get branded a heretic and arrested. Anyway, I grew up eating rats. I know what they taste like. This definitely tastes like rat."

"So there’s real rat meat in it?"

"Yep. I’ve never had real fish, so I wouldn’t know, but there’s no way they’d give precious fish to Guardsmen like us. It’s probably chemical flavoring. Better to eat that than a lump of chemicals."

"Ah, I see..."

Listening to this insane conversation, I opened the ration pack. Inside was a cement-like paste that smelled nauseating. I checked the ingredients with [Keen Eyes]—20% chemicals, 40% grains, and the remaining 40% was some unknown protein. Probably corpse starch, as rumored. In the end, rodent or fish flavor—it was all the same.

’Wow... This place really isn’t meant for long stays.’

Indeed, unless I was planning a full-scale campaign in this universe, this wasn’t the kind of world to casually enjoy.

Everyone started tearing open their rations, and since I was being watched, I had no choice but to pretend to eat. I used [Matter Manipulation] to turn the contents into water, then acted like I was eating it and brushed it off.

After the meal, the Guardsmen were smoking and chatting, when an officer suddenly shouted,

"Enemy!!!"

At his cry, everyone grabbed their weapons and looked toward the front—the initial attack was nothing compared to the wave of Tyranids now surging toward them. The first wave had probably been scouts or vanguard. There were even flying ones resembling Mutalisks—Tyranid Gargoyles.

THUMP THUMP THUMP! ZING—! BOOM!! BANG!!

SKREEE—!!

"Damn it! There’s too many!"

"Just keep shooting!"

"AAAAH!"

We held them off at first, but the line began to crumble, and we started falling back. I considered retreating and glanced at the commanders behind us—but they showed no sign of ordering a withdrawal.

Some Guardsmen, unable to bear the fear, started fleeing—but the officers behind them executed them without hesitation.

"Hold the line!!! Give your lives for the Emperor!!!"

’Hah... Typical fanatics.’

Fortunately, my position was further back, so it would take time for the line to reach us, and reinforcements kept trickling in to help.

Then, something appeared in the sky—at first I thought it was a cloud. But I soon realized it was a massive Tyranid ship—a Hive Ship. It was constantly dropping something to the ground—likely Tyranid forces. At this rate, the line would collapse soon.

Just then, blue drop pods descended from the sky. The Space Marines had finally arrived.

’Finally. No more playing Guardsman.’

Space Marines are the living weapons of the Imperium—beings who have undergone dozens of genetic modifications and surgical procedures to transcend normal humans. They also undergo rigorous mental conditioning and indoctrination, much like North Korea, giving them exceptional mental fortitude and loyalty. That’s why I wanted to extract mental fortitude abilities from them.

I stopped firing, used [Life Magic] to clean myself up, and donned my usual suit via the nanobuckle. My previous gear was erased without a trace using [Matter Manipulation].

The sudden transformation made the Guardsmen stop fighting and stare at me.

"Wh-what... Jin, what is this..."

I pulled a Jamaican chicken leg from my inventory and stuffed it into the mouth of the Guardsman who had spoken to me earlier.

"Eat this. This is real food."

I then floated into the air and used [Telekinesis] to gather all visible Tyranids in the battlefield at once, then incinerated them with the [Glint-Glint Fruit] ability. Since Tyranids are organic beings churned out like factory products, this dealt them a massive blow.

SKREEEEE—!!!

"Unbelievable..."

"Such an absurdly powerful psyker existed..."

"Is this the Emperor’s doing?"

The Guardsmen murmured in awe, some setting down their weapons and suddenly praying. Their prayers weren’t directed at me—they believed everything was the Emperor’s blessing and offered gratitude to Him.

’That’s a bit bittersweet.’

Just then, shots rang out from behind. But the rounds stopped in midair and exploded—I had done that with [Telekinesis].

"Reveal yourself, psyker!!!"

Turning around, six Space Marines had their guns aimed at me, shouting. The explosive rounds that had flown toward me were theirs. I slowly descended and landed before them. Up close, Space Marines really were huge.

"I’m 190 cm, so I’m tall myself, but I can’t compare to Space Marines. Anyway, nice to meet you, Titus. And the ones beside you must be Gadriel and Chairon?"

"How do you know our names... Chaos!?"

"No, I’ve never seen Chaos. I’ve been here about five hours? I came from another world. To put it simply, you could call me a xenos."

The other Marines looked startled, and Titus frowned.

"Arrogant heretic! Do you think we’ll be fooled by such nonsense? Atone with your death!"

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Titus opened fire immediately—fanatics never listen, as expected.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Again, the explosive rounds stopped in midair and detonated. Titus drew his chainsword and swung at me, but it stopped before reaching me—I always had [Unlimited] spell active.

"Stop it. Such attacks won’t work on me."

Despite my words, Titus and the Marines prepared to attack again, so I used [Telekinesis] to bind them in place.

"Guh!"

Even knowing they couldn’t win, they refused to give up. Their mental fortitude was certainly exceptional.

I started with a nameless Marine, absorbing his abilities. Seeing that, the Guardsmen rushed over to intervene, but a moderate use of [Conqueror’s Haki] and a glare made them tremble and freeze.

"GRAAAAH!"

Bling~!

[[(B) Strong Mental Fortitude], [(C) Efficient Physique] abilities absorbed.]

[[(B) Strong Mental Fortitude] absorbed into [(SS) Strong Mental Fortitude].]

"Oh! I didn’t expect that."

Luckily, I could absorb two abilities at once. But there was a problem—the Marine who lost [Efficient Physique] was dying in agony. I used [Matter Creation] to keep him alive.

I checked how much [(EX) Sentry Serum] had increased—only 20 points, from 2000 to 2020. That meant I needed to do this 180 more times.

’Hah... ridiculous.’

I absorbed abilities from all the Space Marines, including Titus, and kept them barely alive. Titus had one more ability—[(A) Psychic Resistance]—but it was absorbed into [(SS) Magic Resistance].

"Damn it... What have you done to us!!"

"Just took what I needed. I still need more, so wait a bit."

Titus asked, trembling, and I answered. I also used [Matter Copy] to duplicate their weapons and stored them in my inventory. They were too big for me to use, but collecting weapons from one of my favorite games held special meaning.

"Look at the phone and smile for the camera—make sure Titus looks good. Hey! Don’t scowl, smile!"

"Damn it... To suffer such humiliation... By the Emperor... Gah!"
