Chapter 1043: Chapter 1043: Whenever I See It, I Think of You
Miles Sterling raised three fingers and vowed, "If there’s any girl other than you, I..."
Vanessa Sterling hurriedly covered his mouth with her hand, "I don’t believe your nonsense. I’ll go see for myself."
"I’ll call the driver over."
"Let’s walk there. I want to wander around."
Miles Sterling paused his action of taking out the phone, took Vanessa’s hand and said, "I’m worried you’ll be cold."
"I remember I still have a lot of clothes there, right? Did you throw them away?"
"They’re all in the closet. Recently, I had someone organize them again."
"Then I’ll go find a cotton-padded coat later to wear."
Miles knew that Vanessa was using the most relaxed attitude possible to offset his inner guilt.
But even though that place was filled with pain for her, she still cared about his feelings.
Vanessa hadn’t been down this riverside road for a while, and the street shops hadn’t changed much.
This bridge she had walked over alone countless times, now had warm hands holding hers as they walked together.
Those familiar memories still emerged from her mind, along with a sense of discomfort that came rushing back.
Like an instinctual reaction from within, needing time to overcome.
Back at that familiar home, Vanessa stood by the door.
On the other side was the past she never wanted to touch.
Escaping would only trap her in her inner demons forever. Since she decided to accept Miles, she should face it bravely.
Vanessa took a deep breath and reached out to push open the door.
"Meow~"
Blackie squatted at the door, affectionately rubbing against Vanessa’s leg.
Vanessa didn’t expect to see Blackie here, showing a delighted smile as she bent down to scoop Blackie into her arms.
"It’s gained so much weight."
Miles followed her inside, locking the door behind him with a smile, "Now it just eats and sleeps every day."
"Didn’t expect you’d still keep it."
Miles found Vanessa’s old fluffy slippers from the shoe cabinet, bending down to place them by her feet, squatting down to change her shoes.
Vanessa instinctively pulled back her foot, Miles looked up at her with a smile, softly saying, "Every time I see it, I think of you."
Vanessa stopped her evasive action, holding Blackie and looked at Miles as he helped her change shoes.
Her heart felt a mix of emotions.
Fear of the past, yet longing for the future.
And the irony was that all these conflicted feelings stemmed from the same person.
While Miles helped her change shoes, she turned her head to survey the surroundings.
The house hadn’t changed much, nearly the same as when she left.
It felt as if she had just gone to the supermarket, without being away for long.
Vanessa withdrew her gaze, looking down at Miles squatting by her feet, asking him, "Who takes care of Blackie when you’re away on business?"
Miles smiled, neatly placing her replaced sneakers in the cabinet, standing up to look at her and saying, "Do you still think there’s another girl living here?"
Vanessa pursed her lips saying, "It’s possible, you could plan ahead and notify her to leave."
"During the day, an aunt comes to clean. When I’m not here, she also takes care of Blackie."
Vanessa took on a believing stance, and as Miles changed his shoes, she carried Blackie to look around inside, confirming no suspicious traces, and didn’t continue pressing on the topic.
