Chapter 1044: Chapter 1044: Want to Sleep Together?
"Aren’t you going to go take a look at your room?"
Vanessa Sterling looked at the room in the corner on the first floor and bent down to gently set Blackie on the ground.
Miles Sterling reached out to turn the lock, then turned back to look at Vanessa standing by the door. "I had someone redo the place. Want to go in and see?"
With an expectant smile, Vanessa carefully walked up to the door and pushed it open.
The layout inside made it impossible to tell this was the room she’d lived in before; even the style was completely different.
Back then it had just been an ordinary guest room, the furnishings very simple, and Vanessa hadn’t put much effort into decorating it.
At that time, she hadn’t had the heart to decorate anything.
But in truth, she’d always longed for a cozy little room of her own, decorated in a style she liked, a place she could come and go from freely.
"Why did you decorate it like this, like a little girl’s nursery?" Vanessa said that, but her eyes were full of delight, and she couldn’t put down the soft plush toys on the bed.
"You don’t like it? I remembered you seemed to really like plush toys when you were little, and the bedroom you drew in your comic looked like this too, so that’s why I did it this way."
Vanessa couldn’t help but smile. She hadn’t expected Miles to be attentive enough to notice the bedroom she’d drawn in her comics.
"Honestly, I never thought you’d actually come back. I just felt that if I did this, it would make me feel a little better whenever I couldn’t help opening this door."
Vanessa sat sideways on the edge of the bed, looked up at Miles, and said, "We should both learn to let go of the past. Didn’t you say we should create good memories to overwrite the bad ones from before?"
Miles walked over to stand in front of her. "I know what the past means to you. The fact that you can give me another chance feels like a dream."
Vanessa smiled and patted the space beside her. Miles froze for a moment before sitting down next to her, a little stiffly.
Vanessa smiled at him, then slowly turned her head and carefully rested it on his shoulder. "I never thought I’d agree to this either. But I don’t think I’m saying yes to the old Miles Sterling. I haven’t forgiven that Miles Sterling. You’re not him."
Miles was smiling, but his eyes were red and wet. No words could express what he was feeling inside.
"...The bed’s already made. Why don’t we sleep here tonight?"
Miles’ back went rigid. He lowered his head to look at Vanessa and asked, a little in disbelief, "...Sleep together?"
Vanessa’s cheeks flushed slightly. Looping her arm through his, still leaning on his shoulder, she said softly, "If you don’t want to, you can go back to your room."
"How could I not want to?" Miles put his arm around her, laughing quietly. "I’ve been dreaming of it."
Vanessa was nervous inside, but she was doing her best to overcome her fear.
Too many bad things had happened in this room, but she didn’t want to avoid it. She wanted to use new memories to cover over the old, ugly ones.
So that the next time she came back into this room, she wouldn’t automatically think of those terrifying scenes, but of the beauty of them loving each other.
Vanessa slipped under the covers first, and Miles carefully lay down beside her.
He tentatively reached out and drew her into his arms.
He could feel the shiver running through her body the moment his hand touched her, but she didn’t pull away.
Both their bodies were tense, and Miles didn’t take things any further. He was afraid that rushing it would stir up the fear in Vanessa’s heart that hadn’t completely faded yet.
Just being able to hold her like this was enough for him.
