Chapter 477: The Lady of Beasts
—
Cruel Enslavement
Divine-grade Scroll
Requirements: Level 50
Five thousand years ago, a powerful Arcane-Beast Summoner devoted his entire life to creating this forbidden scroll. After its completion, it became known throughout the continent as the Demon’s Enslavement.
—
Marcus raised an eyebrow. The item description itself was practically warning people away from it. Compared to the Scroll of Confused Teleportation, this thing sounded far more dangerous.
He immediately checked its effects.
—
Effect: Upon successful use, the user may capture any system NPC or monster within Dominion and turn them into a servant. The servant must obey all commands issued by its master.
Success rate: Extremely low.
The creator produced a total of eight Cruel Enslavement scrolls and presented them to the most beautiful, charming, and influential member of the Arcane-Beast race, the Lady of Beasts, who also possessed the highest known Luck and Charisma. She used one scroll and failed. As punishment, she suffered the failure penalty five times and swore never to use Cruel Enslavement again.
Penalty for failure: Level -20. Luck -20. All attributes reduced by 20%.
Duration: Two years.
—
Marcus stared at the description for several seconds.
"Holy crap..."
This thing could enslave anyone. Any monster, and any NPC. No wonder the system called it forbidden. For a brief moment, he was tempted to march straight back to Mist Veil Palace and use it on that Three-Headed Black Dragon Knight. Then he remembered the part about the Lady of Beasts. Just how high had her Luck been?
Marcus instinctively opened his character panel. His current Luck sat at 46.
’That’s pretty high, isn’t it?’
The confidence he’d built up over the past few weeks immediately resurfaced. Maybe he couldn’t enslave the Dragon Dynasty’s Emperor or the legendary Demon Lord, but the Three-Headed Black Dragon Knight? That didn’t sound impossible.
While he was busy imagining it, Alana happened to glance at the scroll in his hand. The moment she saw it, her expression changed.
"Cruel Enslavement?!"
Marcus looked up. "You know what this is, Alana?"
Before Alana could answer, Amber’s eyes lit up. "Bro, if it can enslave anything, could you use it on the Five-Clawed Divine Dragon at Dragon’s Peak Citadel?"
Marcus burst out laughing. "Amber, your imagination is way more dangerous than mine." He wrapped an arm around his sister’s shoulders and gave her a quick squeeze. At the same time, he couldn’t help thinking about it. A Five-Clawed Divine Dragon... Walking around with one of those following him everywhere would be ridiculous.
’Why didn’t I think of that?’
Unfortunately, Alana looked genuinely alarmed. "Master, absolutely not. You can’t use Cruel Enslavement on something like that."
Marcus blinked. "Why not?"
"The success rate is practically nonexistent."
This time, Marcus, Amber, Lily, Jade, and the others all looked at her. Nonexistent? Even with 46 Luck? Alana rarely spoke with such certainty, so nobody interrupted her.
"Master," she said seriously, "my grandfather told me many stories when I was young. The Lady of Beasts wasn’t just beautiful. She was one of the most powerful figures in Dreamland’s history."
Marcus immediately paid attention.
Alana continued. "Her beauty and charm were said to be unmatched. Her natural allure was so strong that she could influence powerful monsters with ease. Some stories even claim she could affect Mythic Beasts."
The girls exchanged surprised looks. Alana nodded. "At her peak, she commanded ten Mythic Beasts and three Divine Beasts. Every one of them was an apex predator. She was considered the strongest summoner and beast tamer of her era. Even the Sky Eagle Tribe avoided provoking her."
Marcus felt his earlier confidence begin to shrink. "She was really that strong?"
"Yes." Alana’s expression remained serious. "And according to the legends, she wasn’t even born normally. She was a Ten-Thousand-Year Luck Flower that cultivated itself into human form. Her Luck was said to have exceeded one hundred."
Marcus nearly choked. Over one hundred Luck? His own 46 suddenly didn’t seem impressive anymore. A few moments ago, he’d been considering using the scroll on a Divine Beast. Now he felt like he’d gotten carried away. Still, he wasn’t discouraged. He was only Level 50. If he kept progressing at his current pace, reaching 100 Luck one day wasn’t impossible. The potential was there.
Alana continued. "Despite all that, she failed five times in a row."
Marcus immediately focused again.
"The final attempt was on one of her own Divine Beasts. The beast wasn’t particularly obedient, so she thought Cruel Enslavement would solve the problem. She still failed."
The room fell silent. Even Marcus was speechless. Failing against her own pet? That was ridiculous.
"After that," Alana said, "she completely lost her temper. She swore never to touch Cruel Enslavement again, discarded the remaining three scrolls, and executed the summoner who created them. From that point on, the scrolls disappeared from history."
Marcus winced. She executed him? That was rough. Then again, if someone had convinced him to use a scroll that could cost twenty levels, twenty Luck, and twenty percent of every attribute for two whole years, he probably wouldn’t have been happy either.
Looking at the scroll in his hand now, he felt very differently about it. The system had practically handed him a trap disguised as a treasure. Without Alana’s explanation, he really might have gone charging at the Three-Headed Black Dragon Knight and ruined his character.
After a long moment, he let out a sigh. "This thing sounds ridiculously powerful, but is it actually useful?"
The more he thought about it, the more he felt it belonged in the category of emergency options. If he ever used it, he would have to assume failure was the most likely outcome and treat success as a miracle. Maybe one day he’d gamble on an Emperor, a Demon Lord, or some legendary existence if the opportunity was too good to pass up. For now, though, the scroll was staying safely in his inventory.
Jade, however, was focused on something entirely different. "Alana, was the Lady of Beasts really that beautiful?"
Several of the girls immediately leaned closer. Clearly, that was the part they cared about most. If this woman was supposedly one of the greatest beauties in history, why wasn’t she listed on the Beauty Rankings?
Alana smiled faintly. "The stories say her beauty rivaled that of the Goddess of Dreams herself."
The room immediately grew quiet.
"After she first took human form, she supposedly claimed the number one position on the Beauty Rankings and held it for a very long time. The only person considered above her was the Goddess of Dreams, who was never officially included in the rankings."
Even Amber looked impressed. "Wow."
Alana nodded. "She wasn’t just beautiful. Like the Goddess of Dreams, she possessed overwhelming power." Then her expression became more complicated. "But after her fifth failed attempt with Cruel Enslavement, her strength declined dramatically. The Blood Clan and the Savage Tribe learned of her weakened condition and joined forces to attack her."
"What happened after that?" Serena asked.
"No one knows." Alana shook her head. "After that battle, the Lady of Beasts disappeared. Some say she died. Others believe she went into hiding. Either way, she was never seen again. That was five thousand years ago. Most people today have forgotten she ever existed."
Marcus leaned back slightly. A forgotten legend. A lost relic. And now one of her discarded scrolls was sitting in his inventory. The whole story felt strangely important.
Then another detail caught his attention. "Wait." Marcus looked at Alana. "You mentioned the Blood Clan and the Savage Tribe."
Alana nodded. "That’s right."
Marcus narrowed his eyes. "What exactly are those?" He hadn’t expected a discussion about a scroll to uncover entirely new races. Something told him this piece of Dreamland’s history was much bigger than it first appeared.
