Chapter 145: Crazy Healer
Lucian looked at her silence and then smiled and said, "Looks like you finally have nothing to say back, that’s rare."
And then Lucian said, "You can leave now, and don’t forget what I said — stay away from that Leon."
Celestine didn’t reply and then walked out of the room and closed the door behind her. Her expression was still tight with anger because of what Lucian had said, and as she walked down the hallway, her mind drifted back to Asher, and the humiliation she had suffered because of him came rushing back to her.
But along with that also came back the fear she had felt when he finally went all out and would have killed Leon had Walter not intervened.
But then her anger overtook the fear and then she stopped walking for a moment and muttered "You will pay for it Asher" and then continued walking towards her next class, her steps steady once again.
...
At the Church.
Solarius was leaning back in his chair, finally done with everything after dealing with the whole incident, and was about to rest.
But before he could, there was a knock on the door. As soon as Solarius heard it, his expression turned a little annoyed at being disturbed just when he was about to rest.
But still, knowing it was probably something important — otherwise no one would have disturbed him — he said, "Come in."
After getting his permission, the door opened and a woman entered the room. She handed an envelope to Solarius, followed by a tablet, then bowed and left the room without saying anything else.
Solarius looked at the envelope, and his expression grew even more annoyed, but he ignored it for now and focused on the tablet. He picked it up and read the message sent by the Voltaris family.
The more he read, the more his expression twisted with anger, and after finishing the message, he threw the tablet onto the hard floor. The table broke, its parts scattering across the floor.
Then Solarius muttered, his tone thick with anger, "Has that idiot lost what little sense he had left? Can’t he clearly see this is the work of someone other than us, and yet he is still taking action against us, using that incident as reason".
The message, of course, didn’t contain anything about the blast at the location of the Reaper Guild or anything like that — it was only about how, due to the "crazy believers" of the Church, many innocent people had lost their lives, and how the Church should provide compensation for it. It also raised the concern of what might happen if this occurred again, along with several other restrictions the Voltaris family wanted to impose on the Church.
It said nothing about the death of the Grandmasters, or that the Voltaris family suspected the Church was behind it — because why would he include something so sensitive in a message the Church could later use against them? But anyone with half a brain could tell that the Voltaris family suspected them, and was already taking action against the Church because of it.
Solarius muttered in the same annoyed tone, "Just what was there that he’s taking this so seriously? I would have been genuinely pleased if it were I who had destroyed whatever he was planning there, but it wasn’t me, and I didn’t even gain anything from it. Now I have to deal with that idiot, and I’m the one suffering losses."
Solarius then calmed down and said in a firm tone, "If I find out who was behind this whole incident, I will make sure they regret it even in their afterlife, and that they never think of crossing us again."
After that, Solarius looked at the envelope still sitting closed on the table, unread. He picked it up, opened it, and muttered in an annoyed tone, "What does that mad scientist want now? I already sent him plenty of guinea pigs to run his crazy experiments last week. Did they all die already?"
Solarius then read the letter, and as he did, his expression twisted into something complex. The letter contained a short message:
"I need more assistants for my experiments. The previous ones were too weak mentally — they’re either in need of therapy now or have gone so far past sanity that no treatment can fix them. So for the new ones you’re sending, I hope they’re mentally strong, or they’ll end up the same way."
As Solarius read the last line, he muttered, "Mentally strong? What bullshit. You mean you just want someone as crazy as you."
Solarius fell into thought and muttered, "Now where am I supposed to find some crazy, master-rank healer? Even in the Church, which has the largest number of healers, there aren’t many crazy enough to stay too long near those demons and that facility and still function without losing their minds."
He tapped his fingers against the table, running through names in his head one by one, only to discard each almost as quickly as it came to him.
"That one’s too soft-hearted, she’d break the moment she saw what’s kept down there. That one’s strong enough, but he’d report the whole facility to the whole world within a week out of some misplaced sense of righteousness and then we will have to kill him and lose a precious asset. And that one..." Solarius exhaled sharply. "That one’s already dead."
He leaned back in his chair, letter still in hand, and stared at the ceiling as though the answer might be written there.
"Master-rank healers who are both skilled and unhinged enough to work under that madman," he muttered again, almost laughing at the absurdity of it. "That’s not a request, that’s a scavenger hunt for people who doesn’t exist."
Solarius stopped thinking and let out a helpless laugh. "I should just hand this task to someone who knows every Master, old and new, and have them find a suitable one."
Then Solarius burned the letter.
