Chapter 144: Worthless
Asher and his teammates finished their lunch. None of them said anything throughout the meal, and afterward Asher went to his room.
The others headed off to attend their remaining optional subject classes.
But before leaving for their respective classes, Adam looked at Noah and said, "Don’t be too happy. You were saved this time, but at dinner, I’ll make sure to get that girl’s name out of Asher’s mouth."
Noah looked at Adam, annoyance etched on his face, and said, "Why do you even care so much about my life? Are you my mother or something? Stop invading my privacy."
Adam looked at Noah, his tone filled with amusement, and said, "Because I’m sure it’ll be fun once I find out who she is."
Noah looked at Adam with a faint expression of disgust, then turned away and started walking toward his classroom. As he left, he said, "Though Asher is weird, I have to admit he’s right about some things. You really should change the way you talk — it makes people think you have some strange fetish for feeding off others’ suffering."
After saying this, Noah didn’t look back and just kept walking.
Adam watched Noah’s retreating figure as he walked away without stopping, then muttered, "Do I really sound that weird?"
But he quickly shoved the thought aside and headed to his own class.
Meanwhile, in the student council president’s room, Lucian sat behind his desk, reviewing documents. Suddenly, his phone rang. He set the documents aside and checked his mobile.
It was a message from his family. After reading it, his expression turned a little serious, and he called for a member of the student council.
A third-year student soon entered the room and asked respectfully, "Yes, President Lucian? What would you like me to do?"
Lucian flashed a gentle smile and said, "Could you please tell my cute little sister that her brother wants to see her right now, here?"
The third-year student nodded and left without asking any questions — he knew better than to pry into other people’s business.
Once the student was gone, the gentle smile vanished from Lucian’s face, and he returned to reviewing his documents.
After some time...
There was a knock on the door.
Lucian said, "Enter."
As soon as Lucian gave permission to enter, the door opened and a girl with facial features identical to Lucian’s entered the room. It was Celestine Voltaris.
She wore a calm expression on her face, and after entering the room, she looked toward Lucian and said, "Why did you call for me? I even had to skip class to be here."
Lucian slowly rose from his seat and walked toward her, then said in a gentle tone, "I just wanted to see my little sister. What else?"
Celestine looked at him and said in an annoyed tone, "Stop acting like a normal, loving brother. It doesn’t suit you in the slightest."
The gentle smile vanished from Lucian’s face, and he said in a mocking tone, "You still carry that prideful attitude, even after losing miserably twice while having the advantage in numbers. I can understand the first time — he was at his best, so you lost because you didn’t know much about Asher." He paused for a moment.
Shame filled Celestine’s expression at the mention of her first defeat, and she couldn’t even argue against it.
Lucian took note of her expression, smiled, and continued in the same mocking tone, "But the next time, you still couldn’t defeat him even when he wasn’t at his worst — and you were defeated in mere seconds. Yet you still cling to that prideful attitude of yours. Don’t you feel even a little ashamed?"
Celestine clenched her fists in frustration but remained silent.
Lucian then made an expression as though he were trying to recall something, and after a moment, spoke as if he had just remembered it. "What was that nickname he gave you? Ah, yes — ’Shocking Princess.’ It really suits you, doesn’t it? Your expression was full of shock and disbelief at the time."
Then Lucian’s face turned sorrowful, and he continued in a tone filled with regret, "Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to see that expression of yours in person."
Celestine could bear no more of this. Her expression turned to anger, and she said, her voice slightly raised, "You can only say that because you never faced him yourself. I’m sure you would have been defeated just like me if you had fought him. So stop acting so superior just because you’re older and have a higher cultivation."
Lucian’s expression barely changed, but his hand shot toward her face — he seized her by the throat and lifted her into the air.
Lucian’s grip tightened around her throat as he lifted her higher in the air, and then he looked at her with a calm expression as if he was not even bothered by what he was doing.
Celestine’s hands grabbed onto his wrist and tried to pull it away, but no matter how much she tried, she could not even move his hand a single bit, and then her face slowly started turning red due to lack of air, but her eyes still had defiance in them as she looked down at him.
Lucian looked at her expression and then said in a calm and cold tone "That temper of yours is going to get you killed one day, not by Asher, not by anyone else, but by me, if you keep talking to me in that tone."
Celestine still looked at him with the same defiance in her eyes and then said, "Why don’t you just tell me why you called me here instead of wasting time like this? You still haven’t lost that inferiority complex of yours, I guess."
Lucian looked at her without any change in his expression, and then finally let go of her throat before she fainted from lack of oxygen. She fell and landed on the ground, finally inhaling air.
Lucian looked at her and then said, "I just wanted to tell you not to go against Asher again and bring more shame upon yourself, and also to stay away from that light rat, Leon."
Celestine listened to Lucian and then asked, "Why? What happened?"
Lucian looked at her and said, "You don’t need to know. Just don’t try to act close to that Leon." Then his expression turned playful again, and he said in a playful tone, "Or was Asher right, and you really did fall in love with him?"
Celestine looked at Lucian and said, with the same defiance in her eyes, "Stop spouting nonsense."
Lucian looked at her and made a confused expression, and said, "I wonder what the reason for this pride of yours is. Your talent is nothing compared to Asher’s."
And then he said, "Or is it your beautiful face? If that’s it, then let me tell you a fact: if I offered Asher a choice between ice cream and you, he would choose the ice cream. So your worth is even less than a scoop of ice cream."
Celestine’s face turned red with anger at his words, but she couldn’t find anything to say back to him, so she just clenched her teeth and stayed silent.
